    Congrats, Damian! Not the kind of thing I would buy, and definitely not for $120k, but it's great to see how happy you are!
    I agree that the experience of a watchmaker building a watch for you is fantastic; I had a somewhat similar experience (at a cost one order of magnitude lower), and it was terrific to receive updates and photos, and finally, get a nice personalized message hand-written by the watchmaker when the watch finally made the trip across the pond.
    The part that I do not get is paying this kind of money for a watch that, if there was enough demand, would be replicated in Asia easily for less than $1k (in steel, obviously) with the same ETA 2824 movement inside.

    Love the funkyness (is that a word) of this piece and the work that has gone into creating it, but I do prefer some of your other pieces a lot more. But the great thing about your collection and the hobby in general is the diversity, something for everyone. Another great video 👏

    I'm assuming the Joker's facial expressions change quite radically via his eyes as the time changes.... so its really a perpetually evolving watch face, which is cool. A nice touch to incorporate the logos as the Joker's eyebrows and nose.

    • @thelimitededition
      @thelimitededition 3 роки тому

      that is correct. Every hour of the day would have a different Joker's expression. Whereas the case-back automaton scene is operated on demand.

When I first saw the watch I thought it was gimmicky, but the more I see it, the more it grows on me. Do you know how many Chaykin made of the original version, as even they seem like rocking horse poo to find?!!!

    • @TheWatchGuysTV
      @TheWatchGuysTV  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your comments, Ian. I have an original Joker in Titanium, not steel. Chaykin did 99 of the original steel, 88 Titaniums, and 50 Night Jokers.

    I don’t quite understand why people fawn over Rolex AP and Patek to the extreme that they do. They’re nice watches as well, but the overs and restricted supply seem quite similar to what Ferrari has done to try and manipulate the market. Which hasn’t gone that well recently.
    In comparison, this watch is rare enough that you’ll likely never run into someone else wearing one. It’s distinctive and sure to spark an interesting conversation.

    I don't like when the time telling feature stands behind something else. Function and form or function first form right behind. All those Jacobs, Hublots and other funny creatures are not my cups of tea. Same here. It's a great watch making, expensive materials, the idea behind but having Tudors, Rolexes, Omegas, Pateks or other VCs and APs in the box I wouldn't have a need to put the Jocker on the wrist and fully convinced enjoy wearing it. It's a statement of wealth if you need one.

    • @thelimitededition
      @thelimitededition 3 роки тому

      Without independent watchmaking the whole array of brands out there would look very very similar. Established brands are great, like figurative art, but independent watchmaking is driving creativity forward, since ever, just like contemporary art. So, besides personal taste, both 'arts' have their own ground to exist and co-exist.

      As some used to say about Pollock, Chagall, Picasso's work...contemporary art is disruptive by definition. Real value can easily be checked on international auctions. And independent watchmaking's value has never been higher...Saying that, of course taste is taste and we can't all like the same thing. But craftsmanship and value are not in discussion in this case.
