This week on TheWatchGuys.tv a detailed look at Patek Philippe Handcrafts. That mysterious, rarely talked about world of hand-applied artisan craftsmanship that has been part of Patek’s history over 170 years, and resulted in some incredible timepieces.
Using the yellow gold ref 5231J enamel World Time as our inspiration, we take a deep dive into what makes Handcrafts so special? How they are made? And look at many recent examples. Will you want a rare Handcraft after watching this episode? Who knows, but it will be fun finding out.

Good to see you again Damian. Always enjoy your episodes.
Thanks, dude
Very interesting video Damian, thank you 👏 So glad to see a new episode 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Best world timer ever. From any brand
Lovely stuff Damo.
Cheers
Great to see you back!! Not a watch for me, but an amazing piece of art and engineering.
Agreed
Welcome back, I have missed the Chanel and your watch collection
👍🏻👍🏻
Winner!!! Stunning - soo soo beautiful the 5231J World Time - but i'm biased as a custodian of such fine timepiece. The next part is figuring out the finances for more "Rare Handcrafts" - love them.
Congrats, Jamie - and yes I agree. That dry-mouthed feeling when your AD calls to say you have another watch...
Great to see you back! This channel has been greatly missed!
Thank you
Welcome back!!!
This is my Patek grail 5231
This video comes just in time for me, right as I order my 5131. Beautiful
Wow….long abscense from UA-cam but what a way to come back 😎👏🏻
Love your style and presentation, glad to see you back 👍
Much thanks, Des
I've missed you and your videos of beautiful watches
Thank you kindly!
Chapeau, Damian. This is a Patek for the true collectors, not the social media hype train. Congrats to you for getting it…you didn’t mention if you were lucky enough to get it from your AD or secondary market?
AD
Wonderful video, love seeing these watches 👏👏👏
Thanks for watching!
Great to see you back! Like the new setup.
Hey, thanks!
Good to see you back! 😊
👍🏻👍🏻
The Old Views from Geneva is the best example there IMO.
Pure Art!! 😍
Cool video… Learned a lot! Now I will switch the strap on my PP 5110 too.
Glad it was helpful!
Omg you're back!!!!
Great video! Informative, to the point and funny! Keep it up! 👍🏻
Humour insight and honesty. Your reviews are a joy to watch. I don’t care how long it takes. I’m happy to wait for that quality. Speaking of quality the new version of the world timer has got my attention
Thanks, Greg - that means a lot
Great video. After having the pleasure to visit the manufacture in Geneva during the summer and actually see these rare handcrafts being produced, I have a new appreciation for the skills required and dearly hope to be allocated one on the future!
Keep up the good work Damian!
Many thanks, Niall
Interesting that the animal dials don't appeal to Damian. I agree completely. Ironically, though, those kind of generic subjects for designs like "bird", "animal" and "map" are chosen because the watch makers think those have the widest possible appeal. Also, they're not tied to anything that might "go out of fashion" and so can have long-term appeal with collectors. This attitude goes back to when they first started using these techniques in wrist watches and tried being innovative with the designs. They found that any design that wasn't pretty generic was always at risk of not selling.
All true, but that doesn't stop us laughing at some of them.
The watch guys are back at it!!!
Great to have you back!!
Well worth the wait. 😊
Much appreciated!
Fantastic video, thank you. I am in the market for a 5231G looking to step up from a 5110P and your video was useful in showing your 5231 from different angles in a real life setting
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
Good to see you back Damian. I wonder how you got on with your nine more watches I'd buy in a heartbeat. Fingers crossed for a few new additions... 👉⌚🎥👍
4 so far...
Hi Damian, it has been a while. So good to see you.
Thanks, Eugene
Absolutely thrilled to see a new video from you! You guys are Rock Stars! Great delivery and sense of humor. I was looking at your site last night and here you are today…fantastic!
Cheers, Jack
Once again another amazing piece from the collection Damian. I have to admit not something that would normally catch my eye but once you know a little bit about it’s origin and manufacture, you can’t help but appreciate it . Surely it’s time for a collection update isn’t it ??
Maybe
It would be a 4 hour episode though...:)
@@TheWatchGuysTV 4 hours of quality watch content could also be ok Damian ;)
That’s my Sunday afternoon sorted ..bring it on 👌🏻
Finally!
Very interesting video and what a great watch you’ve got there, Damian. How polarising the various dials are; I was in awe of the landscapes and the world timer, but that perplexed Lion made me spit me coffee out laugh out loud! Lovely eccentricity
👍🏻👍🏻
The LE Omega Worldtimer in platinum is superior 220.93.43.22.99.001.
Never seen it
5930G is discontinued, but it wasn't a reference that was especially hard to acquire when it was in production, was it? I distinctly remember trying one on that they had in stock and on display in Spiers of Truro about 18 months ago. As for enamel painting...hm...I guess my feelings are mixed. I greatly respect the skill and artistry, but I just don't like them personally. I guess it's just as well, because they probably aren't about to invite me to buy one any time soon!😛
(In fact, I'm pretty loath to buy _any_ haute horology piece again any time soon. I dropped my 5212A a few months ago while taking it off - just from waist height onto soft carpet. It turns out this is a nice quick way to burn 1300 quid! Ho hum.)
Correct, I just procrastinated.
I'm with you Damien. Whilst I appreciate the remarkable artistry employed in making the dials, there are very few I would wear or own...assuming I was actually invited. I can recall seeing the tiger dials in dealers in HK when you could actually buy a watch in a store. Nice to see you back on the channel..
Cheers, Tony
tbh whilst there are some PP's I like and one in particular I love (which is in your collection I believe) this isn't anywhere near that list.
It wouldn't look out of place on the wrist of some french aristocratic dandy called Francois Du Pre as he's led up to the guillotine...he deserved the chop for just his poor lack of taste in watches tbf..
as a watch it's a mess, the enameled map is poor the dial an over complicated eyesore which renders the owner completely confused which continent he's on let alone time zone. The hands look awkward and wrong..
fair to say, all in all, it's not my cup of tea
oh and that lion in the bushes looked like it was painted by the same guy who infamously retouched the painting of Christ on the cross in Italy a few years ago!
on the plus side, some of the animals are quite superb as renditions.
great to have you back your insights into watches is always a joy 👍
So much truth here, Richard :) Loving the Christ on the cross comment - so true
Great to see the channel back Damien
👍🏻👍🏻
