I'm sure going to miss you, my friend. My first workshop was with Karlyn and she left a lasting impression on my art work. Elegant Writer, gold leaf, web spray, chalks, collage papers, stamping... I was so very excited throughout the whole class. I remember her "Fine Mister" and why she calls it that and that cute little giggle she always had. Condolences to her family and may she RIP...
Karlyn I first saw you demonstrate the Elegant Writer a few years ago & couldn't wait to have my own. You inspired me greatly, & in turn, others who thought they had no artistic ability were also inspired by me, telling them about you, & seeing what I created with my Elegant Writer! God bless you for your generosity in sharing this technique. There are limitless options. Speedball owe you big time!! Love you dearly, & have told many people about you & your channel.
Karlyn I really love the spontaneity in your work! Great contrast too. I have to get me some of these markers. I actually think I have some old ones that I did do calligraphy with. You reminded me of my old days of graphic art too! (You mentioned that in a different video I think). I can only hope to have some good luck with them!
This is a beautiful technique that I have been teaching to my students. They have done butterflies, dragonflies and hummingbirds on watercolor greeting cards and they LOVED it!! Thanks so much for sharing as it was one of your videos that prompted me to buy the pens and explore the possibilities. :)
I am very new to watercolor and truthfully I am just dabbling in this medium. Typically I paint in Acrylics. But I have to say, this is Lovely and I am really excited about this technique! Thank you for sharing your talents with your viewers!
I'm blown away with this method of painting! Thank You! for discovering this and showing us how to use it. Could you tell me if you are using 1/4 or 1/2 sheets of watercolor paper? Thank you again! I can't wait to try this. May God Bless.
Hi. I have been using the elegant writers ever since seeing your first video on them a few years ago. I mostly paint on yupo paper and it works great. Would love more videos using this technique. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great video - i've just started to try this technique with a LAMY fountain pen and its lovely to watch you painting this with all those soft grey tones that appear :D
When in need, - have had so much fun with these pens but when away or with pens dried up: use inktense pencils. Not quite the same but really good in a pinch... ;) Love your style and enthusiasme!!
I have an elegant writer in my supplies - now I'm going to use it in my water color paintings - thanks. Man you freak me out with your spontaneous painting....but its so gorgeous
Hi Karlyn, Thanks for putting up a fun video! I grabbed my sketchbook and did one along with you! Love this pen....the only trouble I have is that the lines will feather a bit...but not always... I haven't figured out what makes it happen or not...(on the same page!). Any suggestions? Looking forward to more from you!
WoW what a fantastic painting with the EW. I will try, but I can not draw. Maybe i can copy a picture and than outline it with the EW, maybe it will work??
Hi Karlyn, this is lovely. My only question is about the archival nature of the pen. I rang the technical help line and they finally told me that the pen is not light fast, so I would be worried about selling anything using it. So, I use it with students and playing, but not for anything else. Such a shame as I think it would be stunning on canvas! Do you think spraying it with an archival UV varnish would fix it? I didn't think to ask them (it was the UK line).
Hi karlyn, Your work is wonderful. Love it and want to do....but when I look into amazon, there are lot of bad reviews against Elegant writer.....that it came dry or went dry immediately, cap came loose etc...If it dries is refill available...and is it lightfast....And does other colour pens too have this beautiful colour dispersion on wetting them. thankyou.
Hi there, do you or have you used the color assortment of elegant writer pens? Do they work the same way? I would assume they do but just wondering what your thoughts are on them ☺️ have been enjoying your videos thank you
We do :P It is a Stephen Quiller empty palette that we fill with Karlyn's color choices. I would highly recommend watching Karlyn;s video about her palette. ua-cam.com/video/5wR14c5PWB8/v-deo.html We do sell it on our website as well: karlynsgallery.worldsecuresystems.com/supplies/filled-palette Hope this helps!
i just so happened to have found these at a store and I am trying them now watching this new video and the ones I have don't do much color. They do color just nowhere near as much as yours. Do these need any type of paper im just using printer paper atm b/c I couldn't find my watercolor paper? If not do you have any tips for it?
Hi Karlyn I hope you'll be able to help I have bought two sets of these pens and I am unable to get any where near the amount of bleeding from mine as you appear to get from yours can you please tell me are you using hot pressed paper and have you had any pens that just won't bleed at all Ive tried everything I can think of wetting immediately wetting after a few minutes and all I can manage is a tiny bit of bleed Ive taken photos but can't attach them here I have spoken to the manufacturer and they say they can't help really as they pens aren't actually designed for the wonderful use you put them to - HELP lol

The second one I've watched ... WOW is insufficient! Another superb lesson. Is it time to become an artist ?... now I'm in my sixties !
When in need, - have had so much fun with these pens but when away or with pens dried up: use inktense pencils. Not quite the same but really good in a pinch... ;) Love your style and enthusiasme!!
This is just beautiful! I love watching all your videos. I'm a new subbie and definitely will be following your every video. Beautiful!

I sketched this in hb pencil first then went over it with xf elegant writer. Using the paint brush w water was so loose and fun. tfs
Thanks very much for the demo. Now I want to go out and buy one of the pens to experiment.
Liz Miller . Superb. I will try it.
Thank you.

Usually spraying the fine mister high above to activate all the lines does the trick. If something still moves a hair, I just go with the flow.
OMG! More, MORE, MORE!!! Please. OOXXOO Linda
went and got my pen today, in fact got 2 if them...they are just to much fun...now I just need to figure out something big to paint...
Beautiful
What a treat watching you!
Lovely!
You are amazing Karlyn. You make it look so easy. Which size point did you use? Thanks for the excellent video.
The XF (extra fine) tip is the only tip I use or stock in our store: karlynsgallery.worldsecuresystems.com/supplies/elegant-writer-pen

That's a nice pallete, who makes it ?

you definitely need watercolor paper. Printer paper & cartridge 110gsm absorb too much.
Can you do this on canvas

What kind of paper are you using here?
Arches 140# Cold press bright white. karlynsgallery.worldsecuresystems.com/supplies/arches-140-cold-press
