  • This video I wanted to give a very simple system for people to use passing the de la riva guard. The de la riva guard is one of the most important guards to understand in jiu jitsu it opens up Berimbolo, X Guard, Single Leg Guard, Ankle Locks, and De La Riva C positions. With any position there are many different ways or systems you can use to pass the position this one is a variation of Leandro Lo techniques mixed with my own.

Your posts are consistently solutions to problems presented by good players at the appropriate times. That is what makes them unique and especially helpful.

This is a fantastic video, I love seeing these systems-style breakdowns of positions. Thanks Jon!

I really love this new system-based take on different situations. One thing I like that Lachlan Giles do on his DVD's is that he breaks down techniques but ends it with a "bringing it together" and "if this" - "do that" kind of approach. It also makes it easier for me as a viewer to go back to the lesson for a quick reference of what to do, especially during situational sparring.

Again, great video! And thanks for sharing. Quick qn Jon. At 04:26, when he has the collar grip after u trapped his right leg in between your legs, would it be possible for the guard player to shift his weight to his right side, use his collar grip and his right leg to propel you forward at the same time? Would this present a problem to the passer? Thanks!

Professor could you do a video to explain the "smash de la riva" please, thanks!

Great video but it’s all predicated on the left leg not having the DLR hook. If they have the hook, how do you deal with that?

what if during the lasso, he lets go of de la riva left hand and proceeds to control sleeve on the lasso side? how would you address that sequence?

CharlesNgo hahaha I’m getting there. Yeah it’s the worst seeing jiu jitsu and no being able to train. Hopefully things calm down a little bit in few months. Thanks for watching the video buddy
