Barrio Fundeci Walking Tour in Leon Nicaragua 🇳🇮

- Our third day of barrio walks in the Barrio Fundeci on the south side of Leon, Nicaragua. In today's video we explore old apartment blocks that remind you of America's projects. Many of these areas are hidden and not accessible by car so very few outsiders will ever see zones like this. This is real Nicaragua and there are some real surprises here as well. This is both one of the poorest barrios in Leon as well as one with some of the most interesting opportunities. I'm very excited to get to bring you along with me as I explore it as well.

I enjoyed your walk today! Unique homes. 😊👍🏻
Thanks! It was very fun to do as well. It's so cool when I stumble on hidden gems like that.
Gracias por venir a fundeci....❤mil gracias es un video muy lindo
Con gusto!
Great video. God bless you.
we are having a heat wave luckily san francisco is only 72 but that's beach weather. in the winter, 60 is hot and beach weather
Good episode. One of your longer ones and I hope your viewers stick around because there were some really good words of wisdom in the last 20-30 minutes.
Thanks! The longer ones seem to be more popular. It goes against "the algorithm", but reliably the longer the episode, the more traciton it gets.
WOW!!! Visiting this area is on my to do list. Thanks for the introduction. ❤ The children were a delightful bonus.
It's a cool area and the park and universities and the ball park all make it an area that makes sense to stroll around at times, too.
Love the curiosity of the kids..."it's a gringo". You could have been a leprechaun as excited as they were. 😊 I visited Nicaragua in May and felt safe. I'm a single, middle aged woman and even walked up to the corner store one night in Managua. No place is without crime but Nicaragua statistically is very safe from what I've read and experienced.
In Nicaragua gringos are definitely seen much like leprechauns.
Yes, even Managua is pretty safe. Nicaragua overall is super safe.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog And as I write this, the US has had another slew of mass shootings over this holiday. Smh...
No kidding. One huge one, and two more normal ones. One was back "home" for us, too.
leprechans 😂
Looks timid compared to vast areas of Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg (especially Winnipeg!), suburbs, and we wont even talk about American ones like Baltimore, Camden, E St Louis and on.
And more importantly, still so much beauty and joy in that entire area!
The innocence and excitement of the kids when seeing the stranger!
Of course the same in Managua I'd be pretty wary. But here in Leon I've yet to find a single barrio that gave me pause or concern. It's crazy safe. And super friendly.

Hola a todo!!
Wow you have also been living in Kiev :-)
I have lived in eight countries and many states... US, Panama, Spain, Ukraine, Greece, Italy, Romania & Nicaragua. And in the US I've lived in NY, PA, DC, MD, VA, SC, TX, NJ and worked in California, Florida, Connecticut, Ohio and many others. Plus I've worked in London, Belfast and Toronto. :)
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog I am sure you'll do a video ranking those places on the “most/least enjoyable places” scale !
Poverty yes!...Zombies, not here
that's of kinda people is the people Hispanic from other countries Spanish they live at us
Great videos. I enjoy them very much. However, you have mentioned many times how safe Nicaragua is. In fact, I checked out your claim from different sources and what you say is indeed true. But I can't help but notice that all the homes all seem to be ringed in with barbed wire and steel bars, not to mention the razor wire atop all the tall concrete walls. So what's the deal with Nicaraguan crime, culture and safety landscaping? Also, did you notice that Nicaragua is devoid of Street View in Google Maps?
Backwards order.... I just got equipment that will let ME provide Google Street Views, I'm told! I've not tried it yet, but there is a firmware update for my equipment to do exactly that so I'm hoping to get out and give that a try as I go... well everywhere already. How could would it be to be the source of Google Street View Nicaragua?
So I've done a few videos on why the barbed wire is actually a sign of how safe things are. It's only from an North American / European perspective that that looks like something of a sign of danger. There's a number of factors. One is that "looking fancy" isn't a thing so whatever is practical to keep people out is what people are going to do.
But the much much bigger thing is this... in the north people live "inside" and lock their houses. Here people live outside, houses are WIDE open. LIke right now it's late at night and I have three outside doors completely all the way open and every window open. Anyone in my yard can just walk into my house. Including animals (and they do.)
In the US people would be generally terrified to leave their houses wide open because they need that barrier against intruders (and bears.) Here we can do that with confidence. But we need barbed wire or else random drunks would hop the wall and steal whatever is just laying around.
Nicaragua is safe, but not devoid of crime. Leave a cell phone on the garden table and if someone can just walk by and swipe it, they likely will. but the chances that someone will be an armed intruder is extremely low. So here we are casually protecting against lazy, oportunistic petty crime and in the US and Canada people protect against armed, targeted, potentially violent crime. So we have barbed wire.... which offers very little security; not locked doors which offer quite a lot more.
We're going to need house tours and asking prices on those apartments!
Jaja, now that'll be hard to get into but.... hey why not. Could be pretty interesting. I need some serious camera lights for this stuff.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog I have faith in you... don't let me down!!! 😁
If I we're you ...I didn't think about it...Carazo Is beautiful, diriamba AND many others location... Trust me...I live at Nicaragua
I've shown Carazo a little. San Marcos recently. And a short in Jinotepe. It's got a lot beautiful to show.
I love this one. I especially love the kids and always the kitties and the dogs. I wstched this one twice today 😊
Am I seeing fruit on some the trees?
Probably. There is fruit everywhere here. If you have trees, you likely have fruit.
Do you know what the barrio is like where the Immigration Office in Managua is located ?
I do not. Believe it or not, nearly three years here and I've never needed it once. I'm looking up now to see where it is.
Looks like a really nice area from satellite.
