My fave place. I spent a week there backpacking in 1975! Nice to see you can still get in there. Decades ago they were gonna close the road in there. Ahh Oxshoe pond leanto. Just before you get there, if you turn right off the path you can access a rock shelf across the pond for a nice place to camp. Crab, horseshoe, lily, rock, putnam ponds. Rock pond, I pulled some nice brookies out of there in the late 70's. I'm physically unable to do this anymore, but you gave me wonderful memories!!!
Thanks so much for sharing! My husband and I will be backpacking there for the first time in a few weeks, and I'm even more excited for the trip after watching your video.
From 1962 to 1970 i workedar Marian Lodge,a girls camp on Pyramid lake. We use to boat and hike to Crane pond and then hike up Pharaoh mt. To the fire tower.Glad to see this areaon UA-cam
I backpacked that loop 50 years ago with my brother, overnight at that beautiful little pond, got a canoe at an outpost on the lake and explored the island, overnight at the leanto on the point, all in beautiful late summer weather. A gem of the Adirondacks.
Incredible video, thank you for all your amazing footage. I have done a few backpacking trips in the ADKS but never here. This video has me sold on going out there, looks absolutely pristine! Seems like there is so much to explore out that way in the ADKS!
There are endless places to explore here, the ADK is 6 million acres of rolling hills and big mountains with lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, and more just sprinkled all throughout it. There are a lot of little communities within the park filled with some awesome people as well. Pick the right spot in a river or on a canoe in a lake, and the fishing is incredible.
What a great trip! Thank you for sharing, that view from the lean to at pharaoh was incredible. Hike the area many times but never to pharaoh lake. My favorite area for sure.
Awesome, very happy to hear you enjoyed the video. This is such a special place to me, one of my favorite places to backpack in the ADK. With any luck, I'll get up there one more time this year. I an extremely excited to do this hike in the Fall when the leaves are changing. Be good!
I gotta get back out there this coming spring. This is literally in my back yard (I do Rock/Clear/Grizzle Ocean as day hikes starting at the Putts Pond Campsite) and lost last season due to the rain and home improvement projects. This season though....
Fabulous ! Nicely done my friend. I need to get over there and check that are out, it looks magical ! Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend, Peace ✌️
Thank you! You would absolutely love it back there. I've never brought my pole with me but I have seen some nice fish in those waters, especially Pharaoh Lake. Hopefully I'll be in the Catskills tomorrow, pushing to get in as many trips as I can this year (I'm tired of my office dictating my life). Be good my friend, great to see you! Talk soon...
@@capsoutdoors Great information ! That area from me is only a few hours away. I here you regarding the office dictating ! You need to get out when you can, life is too short my friend ! Cheers
I was going to do Pharoah Lake this 4th of July Weekend, but the haze is coming back down from the Canadian fires so hopefully, I'll be able to get some time out in my backwoods here in the lower Catskills region. I was up there in the Fall, but once I saw the parking lot full of Priuses with PETA stickers, I didn't feel like explaining myself to anybody about why I was dragging a deer out of the woods if I would've gotten something that day so I moved up to the northwestern side of the lake.
I was going to try and get a Catskills trip in over the weekend as well but the plans fell through. I had Monday off so I stayed local and did a 9 mile out and back. I don't hunt anymore but I hear you on the explaining part. A lot of people don't realize the benefit that hunting brings to an area, both environmental and financial. Thanks for checking the video out, much appreciated!
@@capsoutdoors I did a couple of miles on a local trail in my steel toe boots when I cut out early from work Monday and my calves are paying for it. LOL I was planning to head out today into the weekend in the Catskills, but a combination of rain & heat aren't idea and besides, after next week, I'm taking the next two months off for a LOT of time out there. And August will be time to get ready for early deer season here in the Southern Zone (September). Have a good one.
That place is so close to my heart, a misstep on the trail would have me saying "oh well, I'll just have to come back and try that step again". As irritating as the smoke was, there was something oddly beautiful about it as well. Thanks for checking the video out!
PHAROH mountain was a mofo ! And sorta confusing ontop lol. Lots of feeder trails. Also, did you steal my backpack lol :) great location and fun video. Also nice shots of duck pond
I've done it a few times in the past and know exactly what you mean. First time I went up there I made a left somewhere and ended up u-turning without realizing it. HAHA, I love that pack. I have an Exos 48 as well but haven't used it in awhile. I like the bigger one so I can fit my bear canister. If I could have given those Loons an award, I would have. They put on quite the show for me. One of the best days I've had in the backcountry, hands-down.
I am intensely curious, what is the condition of the road into Crane Pond? It has been two years since I was last there and at the time it was pretty hairy, navigating all the holes, protruding rocks in the road and washouts.
Very cool! I kept trying to remind myself to go through the sub list and see who it was. I'm kind of behind on the comments if you can't tell. Congrats on 500 my friend!
Heard a story about that area and supposedly it’s true. Spanish pirates stashed some gold in a cave on Pharoh mountain. Anyone with further info please do tell the story. In the early to mid 1800s some locals boys were playing with two Indian boys who showed them were it was.
Beautiful hike! Nice overview. Next step might be: going there and filming it by drone.)
If it wasn't a wilderness area, I would have already. There are so many views that would be outstanding from the air!
Thank you for the video. Can't wait to take a hike on Pharaoh Mountain!

Thanks for checking the video out! That lean-to has such a great view of the mountain, almost like a painting. You definitely need to check it out!
What a great video. Discovered and subbed. As I live nearby, appreciate this excellent video.

What’s up joe, good stuff! Just caught up on your last few videos..
Hey brother, what's good? Been awhile, we need to catch up!
I am intensely curious, what is the condition of the road into Crane Pond? It has been two years since I was last there and at the time it was pretty hairy, navigating all the holes, protruding rocks in the road and washouts.
You could very well made history. You're probably one of the few people to have a hiking video of the all smoke from the Canadian fires
