this is simply the best looking RC buggy there is
Good looking RC
Thanks Jason! 🙂👍
After chatting with you on facebook regarding the Le Mans 490 I had to re-watch this clip, you are right it is really fast for being a 30T brushed motor 😊😊👍
Gotta love that expanse of dirt you have available to you! Good size for getting the cars at a decent speed on the dirt with a few jumps!
It's an awesome space. Hopefully it stays that way. 👍
If you like the Rc hobby you’ll love the Kyosho legendary Series, the quality of the chassis’s are unbelievable.
Thanks Eric. I agree about the quality! I've built most of the Legendary series (including this one) on the channel, and yes I love every one of them. 😍 👍
That's a broad opinionated ignorant statement, Eric.
Best looking rc buggy ever made Mick in my opinion and it rips 👍
They do look awesome, Mike. One of my favourites too. Thanks mate! 👍
Good show man
Built one of these over 30 years ago, how time flies. Take caution they have a tendency to bend the chassis rails when pushed hard.
Oh yeah, time really flies. Thanks mate, I'll be careful. 👍
Great video! 👍 While the Turbo Scorpion is my favorite 2WD buggy from the Kyosho Legendary series, the Tomahawk is a close second! I just love the way it looks! 🤩
Thanks mate. The Turbo Scorpion is one of my favourites too, I think for looks it's my top one in 2wd but I can't go past the Ultima for performance. The Tomahawk looks awesome too. Funny though I didn't used to like it back in the day, don't know what I was thinking 🤪. 👍
Looks awesome and runs sweet.
Thanks mate! 🙂👍
You are a very good driver sir!!!
Nice turn off speed, spot on for that car.
Thanks Gary! 🙂👍
Looks so nice! I can see it happened to you like me when I run mine you hit a little divot that you think your going to get air but the car stays flat on the surface because the suspension works so well with these, with the tamiyas they would come off the ground and get air but this kyosho chassis runs so nice it absorbs everything. Nice bash!!
Haha yeah, I think I'm too used to driving Tamiya's. Doesn't take much to send them into orbit, but this likes to stay planted. Been a while since I've driven one of these chassis, the last being my old Scorpion when I was around 15yo. I'd forgotten how well they actually do handle. Thanks Steve, glad you enjoyed it mate. 👍
These are great buggies. Sound awesome too. 👍🏼
They sure are mate. Oh yeah, sounds so sweet! 👍
Great to see you getting your Tomahawk out for a run. The original (before the rere) use to sell for incredible $$$ at one time. Awesome spot to get your cars out to.
Thanks for the great watch Mick 👍👍👍
Yeah, finally! lol. Oh yeah I remember the crazy prices a few years ago, just nuts!
It's an awesome space. Hopefully they don't go and build a car park on it.
Glad you enjoyed it mate. 👍
Phwoar - she looks really good - one of those that looks better in full flight than static. A lot of torque as you said, looks a hoot to drive - nice work!
Haha thanks mate. I agree, looks good out there. It was really nice to drive, went where I pointed it. Glad you enjoyed it mate! 👍
This was an Awesome running video Mick, What a great Handler too considering they came out many many moons ago ,Another one i need to build lol, as seeing it take those jumps and kick up the dirt and in the throttle spinning those tires is just Sick, loved this video and No carnage was Extra Good . cheers Mick. :-)
Thanks Andrew! I thought the same, for such and old design it handles extremely well. It did bring back memories of my old Scorpion way back when... I'm glad you enjoyed the video mate, it was fun to making it. Haha yeah, I was extra careful with this one 😂. Cheers mate! 👍
I love my Tomahawk and how it drives. Yours is definitely a bit faster than mine with the GT Tuned motor in it but I don't think my skills are good enough for anything faster. I am jealous of that big open dirt track you go to. It looks like the perfect spot to just let them rip! It looks great and ran like a champ out there!!!
They are a great car! I think the LeMans 490 is perfect for it. I doubt I could ever bring myself to put a Tamiya motor in a Kyosho 😂. Your skills are gonna improve real quick after a few runs on your track, you'll be surprised. I bet in a couple of weeks you'll be throwing those buggies around the track at full noise! Oh yeah it really is a great space, nothing to hit either which is a bonus. Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video. 👍
@@RCHobbyShed Those Kyosho motors are hard to find and are really pricey here. It may be a bit wrong but it works really well! So if it is wrong I don't wanna be right! LOL
@@AddamsPlayground Lol, they're just as expensive and hard to find here! I'm kinda passionate about my Kyosho's so I had to buy from Japan and China to get the motor I wanted.
I'm sold on this one, getting one for sure.
Great run with the Tomahawk! It looks the business for sure! Thank you for sharing!🙂👍
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂👍
Looks and sounds awesome 😎
Thanks mate! 🙂👍
Wow!! what a great place to run RC buggies, great video 👍
Thanks mate! It's an awesome place to run the buggies, it's my go-to place. 👍
Great vid and looks a great little runner with that set up… ace 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks Neil! 🙂👍
Two cars on my afford when I can list , a Kyosho and a Sand scorcher. Love the chassis etc on the kyosho stuff
The Kyosho cars are top notch. The Sand Scorcher is great too, a must have for sure. 👍
@@RCHobbyShed sand scorcher is just one I wanted back when it was first released but could never afford. Seen numerous kyosho builds, love the alloy chassis etc. Especially like the kyosho beetle. Just picked up an original Wild One that I am restoring/rebuilding
@@davidhiscock1969 Haha, story of most of ours lives in the vintage community. Buying cars we couldn't afford back in the day.
I've always had a thing for the Kyosho buggies, they just look so cool.
Have fun restoring your Wild One. Another classic buggy. 👍
@@RCHobbyShed very true. Hope you are well and keep up the great vids
Quality!! Absolutely brilliant looks like it runs so good and balanced, sweet 🤩
I think it handles really well given it's old design. Glad you enjoyed it mate! 🙂👍
Sweet! I've never really been that keen on kyosho rc but this one looks good. Driver skills were on good form here 👍
Lots more Kyosho content to come, see if I can change your mind about them 😁. Thanks mate! 👍
Splendid!! The motor sounds powerful and the car picks up speed pretty fast. 👍
Thanks Terence! Yeah I think it's a great motor for this buggy. 🙂👍
awesome 👌🏻
Thanks mate! 🙂👍
Where in Australia is that amazing spot, loved the vid I have the 19.5 T lemans brushless in mine not that quick, interesting.
It's in Cranbourne, Victoria. Wow that is interesting, the 19.5t should have around 4000rpm more than the 490. 🤷♂️
They are fantastic cars Mick. , this goes well with the lemans motor. Very nice looking buggy, they never fail to impress me. The chassis is very well built and they handle great. My beetle is a beast and handles anything. Great engineering from kyosho.
Absolutely mate! I agree, I think it goes great with this motor. Plenty of power without being too crazy. They're an awesome chassis, for a almost 40 year old design they handle very nicely. 👍
Hi there Mick, that is a great looking Kyosho Tomahawk. I certainly wish is was able to stretch the budget for a Kyosho! Maybe one day! Looked awesome out there. Take care and best wishes 😊😉😁
G'day John. Thanks mate, I think they're a great looking buggy. Hope you can get a Kyosho one day. You too mate! 🙂👍
Such a quality looking buggy, nice build Mick👌
Tyre writing looks like a decal?
The chrome rims look sharp too.
Great video again thanks Mick!! 🍻👍🦘🇦🇺
Thanks mate!
No mate, they're actually printed tyres. I probably should have left them off for the run as I have non-printed ones too lol. I don't think the later kit releases had printed tyres as I believe it was only the early ones which had the Goodyear licensing.
Oh yeah, those wheels really make the buggy.
Glad you enjoyed it mate! 👍
@@RCHobbyShed
I never knew that, looks amazing👌
Looked like it handled nicely too
@@outbackrcaustralia4895 Yeah, saved me playing around with paint pen so I'm happy lol.
I think it handles really well. For such an old design it's awesome. 👍
@@RCHobbyShed
Haha yeh I've not done nearly as many as you so I'm not sick of the paint pen yet. I'll get a kyosho kit one day, they're suck a good looking bit of machinery
@@outbackrcaustralia4895 Trust me mate, you'll love building a Kyosho!
Hi shocks make a great difference Mick have them on mine 🤩 great car and vid mate
Thanks Pete! It handles well enough for me, I'm happy with it. It's not one I'll drive very often anyway. Glad you enjoyed the video mate. 🙂👍
The "Virus". 😂🤣 Good video. Love the re-re's.
That's Awesome Mate. The Buggy performs very well.
Awesome vid Mick, as always. Tomahawk is next in my list. What pinion size did you use? I am about to get this motor for my Ultima
Thanks George. Oh nice, you're gonna love it! They're such an awesome looking buggy and great fun to drive. I just used the kit pinion in this one, it seemed to be perfect. I think the kit pinion will be fine for the Ultima too.👍
Very nice video love that car
Thanks mate! 🙂👍
Trop belle
Thanks! 👍
Amazing run my friend!
Thanks mate! 🙂👍
Gorgeous looking buggy 😍 that LeMan motor is it brushed or brushless? Havent learned how Kyosho name their motors 🤔
Thanks mate! Sorry for the slow reply. The LeMans 490 is a brushed motor. 🙂👍
Looks & goes good. I have a half assembled re-release Tomahawk. Did you have any difficulty with the gearbox halves?...mine doesn't seem to want to go together completely! It's my first time commenting on your channel...you have an awesome & varied collection of RC'S. Keep the vids coming, good stuff!
Thanks Rodney! I didn't have any issue with mine but at a guess I'd say check your diff bearings. From memory one side is harder to get the bearing on than the other, so may not be seated all the way. I used the gearbox side plate to help pull it down. I'll leave a link to a Scorpion I built where I show what I did. (skip to 14:48 in the video) ua-cam.com/video/n5yKne62iyg/v-deo.html
Thanks mate, glad you enjoy the channel. Will do! 🙂👍
Thanks Mick, for the informative reply regarding the my gearbox issue...I'll try your method so I can complete the build.
@@rodneychalker715 Hopefully that is the issue and it works for you. Good luck! 🤞
That thing looked great fun to drive Mick! Plus looks Sublime! I think every car we have needs to be driven....well at least once anyway to put a small battle scar on it even if then it goes to live back on the shelf!
Yeah repeat what others said Mick great location is it always unoccupied like this or are you getting up crazy early to get it all to yourself mate?
Thanks James, yeah it is fun to drive. I always planned to drive it but it kind of got pushed back. With all the lockdowns and stuff going on for the last two years, it left me with quite a few built cars I haven't driven. Now I gotta play catch up lol.
This is the local BMX track and I've never seen a single BMX there the whole time I've been going there! lol. About all I see is evidence of kids on minibikes ripping it up sometimes. It's an awesome spot for the RC's but I fear it will be gone soon as it's not being used as it was intended.
Nice run
Thanks Ronnie! 👍
tires and wheels look amazing - are those with the kit or did you put the lettering on?
Thanks, they really do look great. Yeah, these come with the kit. The wheels are plated nylon of course but they look awesome. The letting on the tyres came that way, however this is one of the earlier re-release kits, later versions didn't have the lettering. 👍
Looks lovely Mick. Pretty nippy with that motor and lipo. I'm guessing that it's very similar to the Turbo Scorpion to drive apart from the different grip you get with those tyres?
Thanks Pete! Yeah I think it goes great. Yes, very similar although the Turbo Scorpion has the wider track and wider front tyres which may help (a little) with the understeer. 👍
Awesome! For some reason I've heard it said that 30T motor isn't quick, but it looks easy fast enough for a heap of fun. I happen to be fitting one to my Scorpion build right now! What ESC did you use?
Thanks Andy! I've also heard mixed reports but from what I've seen then all seem to perform the same as this one. I think it's the perfect motor for it. I mean, it lifts the front wheels, don't need any more than that! 😂
Should be perfect for your Scorpion. I'm only using a Hobbywing 1060. 👍
Sure wish my kit had the Good-Year tires, they look so much better.
These re-release models are killing me, so awesome! Nice spot to run mate, it's not in Melbourne is it?
Haha, I feel your pain mate. Just when I thought I had them all, they bring out a couple more. This bmx track is in Cranbourne. 👍
@@RCHobbyShed they are a dream to us enthusiasts though 👍🏼 ok cheers, bit far for me, nice spot though, hard to find large groomed areas like that these days
@@akent46 I hear ya! Any nice open spaces seem to have fences around them now. It was great in the 80's, you could go anyway and run your RC. I guess those days a gone. 😢
Looks really cool, but seems to understeer pretty bad.
Yeah, a lot of the 2wd's understeered back then. That's 80's design for ya! 👍
I know this is a bit of time since you released the video but can you tell me what ESC you used for this. I'm wanting to get the 490T motor and the KSH KA060-91W 60A Brushed ESC.
Hi there! I used a Hobbywing 1060 in this build. It's basically the same as the Kyosho 60A ESC you'll be using. 👍
Es tan hermoso el auto de aluminio forjado es muy fuerte y pesa poco yo estoy en un proyecto de reconstruir un Kiosho Baja 1980 pero me esta saliendo mucho dinero pero valdra la pena cuando finalice😢
I agree, they are beautiful. Oh nice, the Baja will be showpiece for sure. Please post pics on my group of the Baja. That will be great to see! 🙂👍
facebook.com/groups/rchobbyshed
So my build is all finished bar the lights, should the bulb slide into that little recess inside the lamp...
I go to bed and have dreams of my Tomahawk
What battery did you go with for this buggy?
It's a Gens Ace 2s 4000mah 👍
Is this and the Mugen Bulldog as robust as todays Mugen and Kyoshos 🤔????
Sorry for the slow reply. I don't have any Mugen buggies so can't really comment on them, but the re-release Kyosho buggies are more robust than their original buggies were. While they still look the same, the Kyosho Legendary Series have all been totally redesigned to fix past issues and also to handle brushless power. Hope this helps! 🙂👍
@RCHobbyShed Thanks 😊. OK 👍. Are they as good as today's Kyoshos❓️
@@eijiroinouye4115 Well the quality is the same. If you're asking if a re-released 80's buggy is gonna be as good on a race track as a current Kyosho race buggy, then no. But it's not because quality is lacking, it's because it's and old design.
@RCHobbyShed Thank 😊 You. Then I feel safe and comfortable buying a new re-released Tomahawk.
Where can you buy the rear wheels?
There's a few stores on eBay selling them. 👍
Did you have any issues with overheating with the 2S Lipo or do you have a fan installed as well?
Sorry for the slow reply. To be honest I've only run it for the one day but had no issues. I'm only using the Hobbywing 1060 and no fan. If you are running with the driver figure fitted, maybe try running without the driver for a bit more air flow. If still overheating, then go for a fan. Hope this helps! 👍
Cheers... Appreciate the reply. I finished the build then noticed that the rear wheels turn really tight. Kind of click if you turn manually, so something up with the gear box I suspect
Hmm not good. Maybe pop the dogbones out and see how the diff feels. If that's fine check over your rear arms to see if they're located correctly as they may be putting excess pressure on the dogbones. Good luck!
Sorry for all the questions... But if I turn where the dog bones go into, all the gears should move, correct
That's ok!
No not really, the other wheel will turn in the opposite direction. That's the diff working.
Now, if you hold one wheel and turn the other wheel, the gears should move.
What's the music ?.
Too nice of a car to jump I only drive mine on grass got other cars for that
It's a buggy, it's designed to be jumped! However, I didn't go nuts jumping it.
