Man I love the Racounteurs in general , but Black Math is my favorite song ever.
Wow high praise! Thanks RG!
I listened to Elephant obsessively for a couple three years in the early 2000's. I would probably put the album in the top 50 all time, in certain moods quite a bit higher. Black Math for whatever reason struck me as a masterpiece. The insanely manic singing, the angst, the mix of guitar sounds with a heavy nod to Black Sabbath. The guitar solo is the closest thing ever to Jimmy Page. I don't know this and I'm probably wrong but the entire album appears to be recorded live. Very little over dub. Reminiscent of Neil Youngs Every Body Knows This is Nowhere.
I gave level a level chance. It is not inspired. The guitar playing is rather pedestrian.
Thanks Stuart!
The guitar solo on "Black Math" is stupendous, always been one of my fave White Stripe songs. "Level" is a more structured song, but I'll take frenetic over restraint every day. "Black Math" wins IMO, for what little that's worth. Consider this the minority report vote :-) . Nice reaction as always.
I like it in its own right but I always hated that the studio albums are a 'cheat' - they move away from the purity of the White Stripes live act by having simultaneous rhythm and lead guitar tracks, which of course Jack could not do live. So soloing over the rhythm for me is... it bothers me. The white Stripes should never have recorded a conventional studio album. It should always have been live, even in the studio.
@@Chinaboatman You have a valid point.
Thanks to both of you for the insight for these newbies haha!
Level. Not even close. The Raconteurs was the best concert I’ve ever attended and I’ve seen the White Stripes twice.
Wow high praise. Thanks John!
The live version of level is better somehow
Will check it out, thanks Sam!
Level was Awesome 👌so my choice here .Good battle as always 😊
