This is such a phenomenal song on a really incredible and underrated album. And is amazing live in any Jack White or Raconteurs concert. I’ve had the joy of seeing both.
Jack White is one of my favorite artists of the past twenty five years. Apart from his obvious talents as a singer-songwriter and guitarist, he's a total genius as an arranger. He knows exactly what detail, however small, should go to serve the song best. A perfect example of this is my favorite White Stripes song, "300 MPH Torrential Downpour Blues", which I think would be an absolute joy for you to react to.
No kidding. Please do check that tune out.
Listening to it here is the first time I have heard this. Excellent.
Yay! I'm always pleased to see you do more more-modern first listens. Good music is still around. You just have to search around more to find it.
And on that note, I hope you get around to doing a King Gizzard review! "Crumbling Castle" would be a great introducion 😋
Ty Jacob!
Yeah, Gizzard have some tremendous material. Would have seen them live last summer...well, everyone knows what happened to live-gigs then 😢
Another really cool band I can recommend are MOTORPSYCHO. Started with stoner-metal/alternative rock in the early 90s, went through different phases then and for the last 10 years have settled into their own niche of proggy space-rock with sometimes heavier influences. It's very retro, yet very creative!
I really think you would enjoy the Raconteurs versions of "Bang, Bang" and "Jolene"
Also "CNR" by Weird Al.
Excellent song. Reminds me of Bob Dylan, especially his Blood on the Tracks album.
Ps, definitely North Carolina, my home state.
Had a friend play Blood all the time and it took awhile to sink in but I think it’s great now.
Bob Dylan helped write this song
Yeah PASTE STUDIO 11- 2- 2016. PLUS RIVER WHYLESS DOING THEIR SONG- STONE FROM UA-cam AUDIOTREE STUDIO!! NOW THATS AN AMAZING VIDEO TO WATCH!!
Nice one...I only know Jack White from the White Stripes but this was aces. I'll slip in a few repeat requests since persistence eventually pays off...First is Love's "You Set The Scene" - I know you did one of their songs but this is their best. Second if Earth & Fire (not Earth, Wind and Fire) - "Storm & Thunder" - this song has mellotron. Third is Comus' "The Herald" - great acoustic guitar middle-section. Fourth is a KC improv from 1973 - "Voyage to the Centre of the Cosmos". The last three or four minutes are particularly excellent with John Wetton's bass as lead guitar and Fripp on mellotron.
Ok how about listening and reviewing some music by the UK band called The Fixx who enjoyed some chart success in the states from 1983 to 1989...”Reach The Beach” album would be a great place to start with the singles ‘Saved By Zero”, “One Thing Leads To Another”...Thanks in advance 👍😀👍
Always thought they were Australian... nope, yer right. Let me reorient my Fixx brain info.
Love the band, my fav is Outside, love that ending guitar solo.
Outside is SUPERB need JP to hear this and give some good comments on it please 🙏👍
@@RogerMelodicMusic
The Outside campaign begins.
I didn't really like Jack's singing in his White Stripes days (including the Bond theme that brought out neither the best in him nor Alicia Keys). It took me until I saw Cold Mountain and heard the songs he performed for that project that I started to appreciate him more. The stuff he has been doing with The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather seems a bit more laid back, as if he felt he had to fill much more sonic real estate in the White Stripes and getting to lay back some more since then.
Enjoyable song, but I would have been less apprehensive clicking on it if I had known it was a Raconteurs song to begin with :D.
Check out Two Against One
PS AGAIN SIR- NOBODY HAS PLAYED RIVER WHYLESS OR SARAH JAROSZ YET!! IM SURE ONCE YOU PLAY MY REQUESTS SOMEONE ELSE WILL HEAR ABOUT THEM PRETTY SOON!!!
Not a fan, sorry.
Never heard of this guy before, but, all you said here, I agree. And will listen it immediately a second time.
i liked this.....loved the piano and his delivery.
Reminds me of a Nick Cave (and the bad seeds) composition.
Jack White hosted a PBS special called "American Epic Sessions" where they fit out a studio with one of the earliest record studio equipment and they invited contemporary bands to record early recorded American music in their own styles. Jack did one called "Matrimonial Intentions," but there are many great tracks, '14 Rivers' with Beck, 'Cascabel' with Los Lobos, 'Killer Diller' by Alabama Shakes, 'On the Road Again' by Nas, and 'Mal Hombre' by Anna Gabriel and many others - every one a killer. There's even an original song written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin for this show and performed by Elton and Jack: 'Two Fingers of Whiskey."
Have u given up on Jeff Buckley Justin? Or did u succumb to listenin to Grace privately. Don’t forget Morning Theft and the sky is a landfill and everybody here wants you ok.
The middle art of this with female voice and piano and mandolin and guitar was very tranquil and cinematic.
Did the preacher get shot?sorry i forgot to concentrate on the story lalalala yeah
Lol.
Regarding the "milkman", you have heard of someone being the "milk mans child"......yeah? I believe this is the reference.
No 'jacking around', straight up drama! Jack made me a believer when he lured Loretta Lynne out of retirement, man's a gift to music! More acoustic please, such as Jon Gomm.Peace.
Not heard much JW. This, not bad. A little long, and not the best mix. Good start, loved the musicians, but tune-wise, a bit samey. Re the mix, tried to follow the story but as the song, volume, built I found i couldn't hear all the words. Deffo not once the backing singers started. Spoiled it for me. If telling a tale, make sure it can be heard. * Read the lyrics later: Lad got it wrong. Milkman obviously the father, their famous for it. Priest likely just the middle man re money delivery.
Yeah, the milkman always did it, probably had several on the way or walking around.
Justin, have you ever listened to Marquee Moon by Television?
Marquee Moon is a revelation to everyone who hears it the first time.
One of the best 10 mins of guitar rock ever.
Do you know Jack White is from the White Stripes fame? Don’t tell me you haven’t heard of the White Stripes?
@@edmundau-yeung9598 I know of Jack White and The White Stripes. Why wouldn't I?
I love their 1992 album, play it all the time, perfect album imo.
Tom sounds better vocally, the songs are great and the guitars intertwine gloriously. I love it, don’t care what anybody says.
Hey Justin My Man!! Okay here's another first listen fir me!! I've heard of him threw fellow co- workers! Thought I would finally give him a shot. Went to the comments and I agree with a couple of people there. First off I really enjoyed his singing and story telling for sure!! But like one person said it was too long! I agree by about 1min. Then someone mentioned Led Zepplin! I agree there too!! Sounded alot like Zep!! But i must admit I wasn't feeling the piano and female backing vocals here sorry. I would of rather heard Jacks voice in the middle slow like the ending. Besides that I really loved his vocals and delivery of this song!! Really cool and different for this channel!! And yes thank you to the person who requested this song!!! GREAT PIC!! So what's up with this Q&A? Is that for paetreons only?? Don't recall getting the memo!! We have to be open to all kinds of music innit.
Ironically one of the few Raconteurs songs that is actually a story xD
ITS MANDOLIN ORANGE UA-cam AUDIOTREE LIVE!!!
Raconteur actually means "Storyteller"!
Jack White of the White Stripes, thank you.
And of The Raconteurs
Cool song. I prefer an acoustic to medium distortion similar to Led Zeppelin that Jack can do. When he adds too much octave pedal it bothers me enough to turn me off to several songs. Otherwise, I respect him as a performer, record, like vinyl record company owner, and building his own recording studio and stage for live stuff. What a guy. I found a $40 Airline/ Supro resoglass guitar at a flea market, this was before White Stripes. Jack single- handedly brought up the value of that red vintage axe. Thx Jack.
Peace and milkman Music
Nice, unexpected change after Mike Oldfield galore ;-)
I have to say, I enjoy Jack White most when he tries to make as much noise as possible on electric guitar, but this was solid. Had a pronounced "rustic" feel.
Thanks to the recommender. Good tune. I like this type of music and I never knew Jack White was making it.
As usual, great review. Thanks.
JP!!! My man!!! Thanks so much for finally getting to this! I think it was the first song I ever requested. 😜
I knew you’d love this song! One of the coolest ever written. My wife and I enjoyed this throughly.
One of my favorite subtle pieces to this song is the line “cold glass bottle of milk they got delivered every morning at 9:00”.
Milk deliveries were (are) typically delivered in overnight and early morning hours before the milk could spoil and so people had it for their breakfast. The fact that the milk was delivered every morning at 9:00 suggests the milkman came to the house every day later than normal when the kids were away to school and the “other” boyfriends most likely at work.
It’s a small detail but weighs the story so well. 😉
You should watch him perform this song with these musicians live. There’s some good vids out there. Spectacular.
Thanks JP! Now that you’ve don’t TTNG and Jack White... it’s time to start begging for My Morning Jacket and the Mars Volta. 😉
I love the line about the white milk dripping down with the blood.
Jack White is brilliant. This acoustic album is great, worth listening to.
I’ve seen Jack White in concert twice. Have his bumper sticker, on my car. Have his T-Shirt, and I adore him! I call this song, “Gothicana”
