Mathematically, there's not much change in terms of remaining purse after retention. In the 2022 IPL mega auction, teams that retained 4 players were left with 48 crores (90 - 16 - 12 - 8 - 4) for the auction. Now, for this year's mega auction, after retaining 6 core players, teams will have 41 crores to make the rest of the squad, meaning just 7 crores more for two key proven players. So, the difference is minimal. Most of the time, good teams have maximum 5-6 superstars, and the rest are their own scouted and developed players, bought with less money at the auction.

I watched the ESPN Cricinfo discussion on this topic and the panelists were talking about something like 'average pay' for the top 3 retentions rather than Rs.18, 14 & 11 crores. That shouldn't be allowed. It's not quite the same as #1 getting Rs. 18cr and #2 getting Rs. 14cr and so on.......Otherwise, why even have that rule? Rather just mention top 3 retention prices can't exceed Rs. 43cr. About Uncapped player, if a player gets a cap from now till October 31st which is the deadline, then they shouldn't be counted as Capped. Otherwise, it's not fair on the franchises who have to plan their strategies.
If Ravichandran Ashwin is being auctioned and Royal Challengers Bengaluru has placed the highest bid of INR 6 crores for him, then Rajasthan Royals (Ashwin's current franchise) will be first asked if they wish to exercise their RTM (provided they have one). If RR agree, then RCB will be given one more chance to increase and place a final bid. If RCB now raise it to INR 9 crores, then RR can use their RTM and re-sign Ashwin for INR 9 crores. -Cricbuzz
I love the idea of a flexible RTM+Retention rule but didn't like the rule which allows the other franchise to increase the bid after RTM is used. Never understood the economics or complexities or the flamboyance behind the auction. Can’t this be made much simpler by having an overall salary cap and have the franchises contract players for ‘X’ amount of seasons and then leave it to the franchise and players to extend or terminate the contract.
IMO, In that case, a player and management can collude to show the contract price less on paper and pay more under the table making a few teams overpowered...auction makes sure that all franchises have an equal opportunity to pick a certain player.

At this point, there should be a contract system in place-if a player’s contract expires, they can go back into the mini auction. Go for Chahal at all cost as RR wont retain him but wanna retain through RTM. So can get Yuzi easily
Harshit rana is yet to make his debut.. he is not capped.. is he?
Uncapped as of now
Why does he have to be always diplomatic!?
Rules change because of one man that is Dhoni
RR wont be happy because of RP and DJ situation. RR traditionally dont want to spend a lot. I see some good RR players coming to auction now. Their loss.
sir audio is very bad, please record with a good mic
When did Harshit Rana got capped? 🤔🤔🤔
It's tragic that you didn't even count fans as stakeholders and didn't discuss even for a second about what pathetic facilities are provided for fans at the stadiums.
Hmmm that would be talking against bcci. They have so much power that no one wants to go against them

Disappointed with some of the rules.
Whenever IPL has a chance to become more global, bigger, we just find a way to restrict it to be Indian only.
I think not allowing 5 global players in a team is a huge miss.
Its Indian premier league so Indians must get more chance. 5 overseas player would ruin that and people would blame IPL again.
@@soumyadeepmukherjee8878 then don't play foreigners. Play all 11 indians. Enjoy. Why bother with quality of competition at all.
@@Priyank_hq Not playing the foreigners also kills the purpose of this league. The Indian players must face the foreigners to gain experience of playing against them. It's also good from business side. So it's foolish to completely remove the foreigners.
The uncapped player rule is a big fraud for someone who has not played International cricket for 5+ years, uncapped player is one who is yet to debut.
Old people cannot be uncapped players, this is extremely wrong practically and morally, have some ethics BCCI..
Totally confused 😕

There should be 5 Retentions + 3 RTMs
This is not fair.

unfair is there is no cap on overseas and indians 3 indian 2 overses would be good this rule favours mi

Harsha how will india in general be benefited by your information?

🟥🟥🟥🟥❌One bad thing they have done...for an overseas player maximum wage get will be 12 crore if the maximum bid on mega auction which is normally lower is 12 crore..it's not fair suppose next year and overseas player goes for 20 crore...he will lose 8 crores of it which he deserved...it will make best overseas players to lose interest in ipl...ipl will be just like bbl or 100.. also reduce glamour of mini auction.....it should be whichever is higher like 18 crore or maximum bid more than 18
@@NandanaRose-xm8wf If they are getting under 18 crores, then that player is worth that much money. And getting 18 crores for a player is a decent amount for them. It's not fair to the Indian players because franchises won't leave them so they would never get the hike like overseas but we are playing in the Indian Premier league so Indians should get the benefit and this rule doesn't put Indians on top but gives both Indians and Overseas players an equal sum of money.
@@raveesharora3311u didn't understand....not equal if it was like that i wouldn't have problem...the problem is he will get maximum amount an Indian player got in auction or 18 crore out of these which is low... I'm not talking about overseas players' auction bid..for eg stark got 20 crore in auction but maximum auction bid for an Indian player suppose it was 14 crore for Rinku...so stark will get only 14 crore... even though retained player are getting 18 crore...he will lose his rightful 6 crore... atleast it should be 18 crore
Do you think Bumrah is worth 7 crore whereas starc gets 25 crore. Its time they really made it "Indian" premeir league. If they can get as much money and sponsors from elsewhere let them go. Bear in mind the superstars of IPL are Indian players not the likes of head's starc's or Brooks'

Shame on BCCI, only rule for Dhoni!
So what is the issue? He is bringing in the money for IPL more than any other player.

Can a team Retain 4 players in cap of 14cr 11cr 14cr and Uncapped 4cr and not opting 18cr slab if the players are satisfied with 14cr itself or it is compulsory one player should retain for 18cr?

Please do talk more about fans, about their minimum needs and well being when they visit the stadiums. not somewhere in the middle and hard to find way.
Can use simple English and clear way to communicate about fans needs rather than someone needs to use their intelligence to find out about it while watching your whole video.
Dhoni bigger than IPL and cricket. Cricket and Rohit Sharma bigger than culture, and lives of Hindus.

Before even watching the video I knew this pus will suck up to bcci unfair rules regarding foreign players auction worth
What is your opinion?
@@pavitrprabhakar3981 My opinion is that IPL thrives on a mix of local and foreign players, which makes it globally appealing. And so the price of any player including the foreign players should be governed by the market. If you are so hellbent on emphasising the “ indian “ in IPL as Harsha is pointing out, then you might as well play the ipl without the foreign players entirely. Bet no one would even watch it
@@yagyassharma9756 I don't think that's the case at all tbh. The only change is for overseas players who decied to sit out on the mega auctions and then get a bigger paycheck in one of the mini ones since the supply is lower during those times. The maximum 4 player rule(incl impact player if overseas) as far as I know now, hasn't changed at all.
@@yagyassharma9756 I agree with you. It would be another SMAT.
@@sanketkulkarni7854 it is said that the maximum price a foreign player can be paid has been capped to the maximum price the highest paid Indian player is paid. Franchise can bid more than that if they want to but the foreign player won't get it. Bcci will take.
