  • In this video I backpack the West Highland Way during the Easter week in April 2022.
The West Highland Way is a 96 mile Scottish National Trail and probably its best known and most popular. It runs from the town of Milngavie on the northern outskirts of Glasgow to its terminus in Fort William in the Highlands.
Throughout the walk I choose to 'wild camp' in suitable locations.
In all the walk took me 6 days:
Day 1: Milngavie to Conic Hill
Day 2: Conic Hill to Inversnaid area
    Day 3: Inversnaid to Strathfillan
Day 4: Strathfillan to Ba Bridge on Rannoch Moor
Day 5: Ba Bridge to Kinlochleven area
Day 6: Kinlochleven area to Fort William
During the walk I met Abbie Barnes - here is a link to her UA-cam channel

Lovely video. Brought back the memories. And of course the sun comes out when you're on the bus home! 😄

Ha ha! It was a glorious day in Fort William! Still despite mixed weather it was enjoyable for most of the trip. Glad it brought back some memories of your trip as well. Thanks for watching 👍

Hi Martin - Thanks for the kind words. I thought I should mention Head for the Hills as I think he really enjoyed the WHW and it was one of the first backpacking videos I saw. A sad loss but great legacy…All the best 👍

Hi - Thanks for the kind words. It’s a lovely trail. Hard(ish) at the top end of Loch Lomond but spectacular scenery all the way. Cheers..

As soon as I saw the orange bag , I thought head to the hills 👍 yes I was a sub to his channel and was shocked to learn of his death on the Scottish wanders Channel.
Well done on completing the WHW which is on my ever growing bucket list lol . Weather was fairly kind but I think it added to the atmosphere of the hike. Looks like you have slimmed down your pack weight ?
I can empathise regarding removing jackets, it’s such a pain stopping and removing pack etc etc lol . Great work atb Dave ⛺️📷👍

Hi Dave - just realised I hadn’t responded…apologies. I’m trying to get my base weight down but was a bit too optimistic in taking the lightweight sleeping bag. It’s a good route when/if you set off to do it - the section along Loch Lomond is occasionally hard going though. All the best..

Hi Ailsa - yes, they were perfect for this trail - no blisters and very cushioned. Sometimes my foot would ‘go over’ a bit but I’m not sure that boots would have been any different. Hope all goes well for you…atb, Andrew
