Washington is shutting down capfriendly so we don't have to see PLD contract.
Amazing comment!😆
It all makes sense now.

Wow did you steal that off of Twitter too?
It’s crazy they bought the website but didn’t know about the worst contract on there 😭
You know it's a good day when Shannon is wearing Kings colors and PLD aint...
Kings don't have colors. Grey and black and, what?, silver? Ugliest uniforms in NHL. Need to return to the royal blue and gold scheme. Pronto. Bland colors are uninspiring.

Getting out from that DuBois contract with zero retention is a huge W. LA wins that hands down.
And after you see Kuemper playing his first game of this stint with the Kings you see that you have over 5M goalie who is behind Rittich and likely few other goalies they add for the organisation in the summer😂😂
The jets just keep winning these trades lmao. It's like they traded Keumper for a haul so big they had to get a wagon

@@DaddyOBillKings fan here, you are paying 3 million dollars more for 4 more years to buy a different kind of mess. (Good luck when his no-movement clause kicks in next month)
…so, why did the Capitals do this right after buying CapFriendly?
so they can know what the buyout amount is 🤔
Hopefully they can still afford Guentzel.
Having the data doesn’t mean you know what to do with it.
They did it so nobody can make fun of them once they can't get rid of that contract
They will fire the Capfriendly guys and accuse them of causing them to trade for him
How many changes of scenery does this guy need lol. Wouldn’t want him on my team
Pierre-Luc just missed his transfer. He's still looking for the bus to Montreal.
Washington bought Capfriendly in the hope we wouldn’t be able to see PLD contract in a few years and getting a reminder of how bad this contract is hahaha
Long term planning
This is the biggest 4 out of 4 Milburys trade I've seen in a while.
With Kuzy gone, we had a big opening at the dysfunctional underperforming forward position. Need filled. Money in the bank.
As much as I hated on Kuzy he was the rightful Conn Smythe winner in 2018.

Now you know how us Jets fans (and I can probably speak for Colombus fans as well) felt about that anchor.
Saving $3 mil to help bring back Byfield, for 4 years less on the contract, and get a player that (hopefully) fills a HUGE need for the Kings
Gotta like the deal for them
Kuemper is atrocious, bad contract for bad contract. Dubious can play well at times, and if he does it for long enough the caps will trade him to a team, retain salary and get a haul for him. Washington literally has nothing to lose and everything to gain.
I do like the 3 mil cap space this trade makes for LA. Byfield is really good so retaining him is essential
@@brandonhall9959 And what was Kuemper before last year? He was above league average. Put him on the Caps, and it was the wrong place for him. He's played in La before, and their style works very well for him.
@@MartinFWhite Honestly kuemper desperately needs a change in scenery. He's an older goalie and i dont expect much from him. I think he'd be better in a vet backup role, his numbers may come back up with a lessened work load. The potential ceiling is by far higher for the caps though. The two reasons why people dump on pld is because he's over paid and he lacks motivation. Where hes going the money doesnt matter, he may figure out the second thing, he's still relatively young. Also he is good at hockey, alot of teams would be interested in him at 50% retained. Potentially get more for him than a bad contract
@@brandonhall9959hmm, bad contract for 3 years vs bad contract for 7. What’s worse?
I'm surprised by the trade and shocked that there will apparently be no salary retention of Dubois by the Kings.
Rob Blake FTW!
0:07 Shannon winking 😉
As a Kings fan and watching PLD all year long I am thrilled 😁
Kuemper was with the Kings briefly years ago before he was acquired by the Coyotes, so he does have some familiarity with being in L.A.
Blake better be thanking the man upstairs he only had to take on Kuemper to get out of PLD’s contract. Thought LA would have to give up a lot more to do so
Kuemper only has 3 years left on his deal at a cap hit $3.25mil less than PLD. I see this as a total win for LA even if Kuemper plays horribly lol
Kuemp is one of two goalie who raised a Cup for the Avs. I’ll love that man for life
He was barely .900 in that cup run. They won in spite of him
@@XaviRonaldo0 hahahaha perfect. That’s all we needed and he did it with one eye. What else you got for me
@XaviRonaldo0 He faced an average of 24 shots per game. Majority of goalies would be hovering around .900 or less with that few shot totals. Unless there's an insane goalie only allowing 1-2 goals per game as 3+ would drag that number down
@@tpd1399 him being absolute trash with Washington and having his starting role stolen by a guy who was a career AHL player up until that point.
In the 22-23 season when Kuemper got hurt it was no coincidence that Washington had an excellent December while Lindgren played every game. Kuemper is way overrated!
same here
“Is there a winner?” Are you kidding me? This is the best news for the Kings in a while. We would have paid 5.25 million for nobody as long as PLD was OUT
The whole scenario is one of the biggest L 's that ive ever seen.
Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari, PLD, and a second round pick for an overpaid, borderline defective goaltender in Kuemper... I dont know how Kings fans arent grabbing their torches and pitchforks and running Blake out of town.
@@greaseweeklygames Lol easier said than done buddy. As if you would actually do that if your teams coach was Blake. Anyways we all know it’s an overall L for us, but we’ve been begging management to get rid of this mistake by any means necessary. And it actually happened.
@@OperationNemesis Blake is your GM, not coach, and if assets were managed this poorly for a team I cared about, I'd be calling for the GM to be fired. Kuemper will be another problem and if his track record is any indication, Blake will trade that problem for another problem. You shouldn't stand for that BS. Kuemper will be lucky to play 30 games and you can't get a healthy #1 because you just tied up 5 mil on a 1B that is injured half the year. I can't see how a kings fan would ok with this trade, it is bruuuutal
even if Keumper is horrible, it's $3.25mil and 4 years less compared to PLD. Genuinely baffled why Washington would want to swap these contracts 1 for 1. I guess they really think they can turn PLD around but that's a big gamble imo
@@greaseweeklygames first of all my bad I meant GM and not coach. Second, wtf do you want us fans to do?? Start a fucking riot? If I could take a guess you’re probably from Vancouver. Every single Kings fan is happy PLD is out, no matter how poorly the trades have been prior to this. That’s the bottom. So keep talking your shit, this was an insanely good trade.
PLD on his way to playing for 12 teams
As a Caps fan, this trade is frustrating. This basically means that Connor McMichael (who, by the way, scored more goals than Pierre-Luc Dubois last season), and Hendrix Lapierre (who currently leads the AHL in playoff scoring) will have diminished opportunities to take developmental steps forward.......for the next 7 years!!! It almost means that they have to move one of them (or convert one to wing). Still, neither should be relegated to permanent 3rd line status for the next half decade or more...
I could not agree more! I'd take Lapierre or McMichael over PLD all day every day. IDK what the Caps are thinking here. 8.5 mil a year on a guy who's known to have a bad attitude and poor effort that struggled to put up 16 goals last season. They must love throwing money away and losing.
There's still room for McMichael and Lapierre though the advanced stats community is very bearish on McMichael. We'll see what happens next. It is a major gamble for the Caps but I like that they're not overpaying for grinders this time.
Looks like CapFriendly ain't doing the Capitals any favors yet
PLD goes through teams faster than I go through toilet paper.
Constipation problems?! Old will dominate this upcoming season.
@@eirikrdberg1161 No, if he's going through toilet paper that badly constipation clearly isn't the issue...lol

@@ATHIP12Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari, Dubois, Durzi AND the second rounder for Kuemper 🤯 crazy
It is if you look at it that way. But it isn’t as rough as a 8M 0.5 ppg third liner that is poison for the team.
@@kftc1980 Yeah, I agree that last trade separately looks reasonable. But if you look at the whole picture, then holy shit
@@pyncz5716 indeed. But with each team that acquires PLD you have to argue they are being even stupider than the last. The Caps paid less, but have even more evidence than the Kings did, yet they still take the plunge.
Dubois played 3 less minutes a night in LA than he did the year before and he’s going to be our undisputed 1C in Washington. The Capitals were starved for offense, needed to not move any prospects or draft capital, and had the Darcy contract and the goalie controversy. We gave up zero prospects or forwards and got a potential 1C project player in return. This is honestly such a W for the Caps.

Man we really got to get out from under this Kuemper contract...
Hey I've got an idea.
With Dubois it's not about point production, it's about effort. You will never see a player play a more lackadaisical, ho hum game. He coasts around the ice with one hand on his stick all game. The original trade with Winnipeg and the contract that was handed out to him was indefensible. But to think they moved this contract, before it even starts, without giving up any draft picks or prospects, as well as no salary retention is stunning
Cutting out the poison
You haven't seen the Capitals play, have you? Both Kuzy and Ovechkin coast around the ice far too often.
@@gabrielrockmanI guess you don't watch them either considering Kuznetsov doesn't play there anymore
I would have thought the organization had learned sth with Mantha and Kuzy. But apparently no I guess. Happy to be proven wrong though.
@@CC-of5xl Yes, but he did play for the Capitals and coasted around the ice quite a bit for them. He seemed to show more motivation with Carolina, but we'll see how long that lasts.
WTF? Kuemper had a rough year, but Dubois is a total train wreck. GIve him a year, and he'll complain about Washington. Both sides lose this one, but Washington loses bigger.
Both sides lose is a good way to put it.
LA probably gets the most relief but they are still taking back a bad goalie contract from a guy who is probably done. Atleast done being a #1.
@@NothingToPointOut24look at kuempers stats when he played with LA at one point. He does well there.
@@JarradBruessel32 20 games 7 years ago? I dont think that should be the example were using here
He is not the same goalie now. He can barely play 40 games. Rittich probably goes into the season as their starter.
@@NothingToPointOut24 At least LA knows what type of person(not player) they are getting back. I think it was just about getting PLD out of the locker room and not having any long term cap consequences because of it. Both sides lost the trade, with LA lost less and gains more from it. I wonder how long PLD is going to feed an aging and flat footed Ovi tap ins and empty netters before he starts to get all pissy again.
@@NothingToPointOut24 Kuemper played well enough to win a Cup. How well has Dubois played for his $8+ million per year? Answer: "well enough" that teams keep having to trade him because he doesn't want to be wherever he currently is. I'd rather have a past-his-prime overpaid goalie than a guy who won't give 100%.
This is the weirdest trade lol
I nearly fainted when he was traded... Must not have been Blake's decision... His decision would have been more slanted than the artwork in Stevie Wonder's house...
PLD will fit in perfectly with OV. Both can stand around and hope someone passes them the puck.
O-You pass me the puck!
P-No you pass me the puck!
O-No I don't pass, I score goals.
P-well that's my job to score,not pass.
And the defense goes end to end and scores, caps down by 7 as OVI and PLD just keep staring at the puck in the offensive zone 😂
Best trade in Kings history getting out of that contract and being rid of that boat anchor at any cost. A net negative for sure, but this was the best possible result after potentially being stuck with PLD for almost a decade on a NMC. 😆
I wouldn't pay $5 for Dubois or for P. Laine...
Toronto buys CapFriendly from Washington, deals Marner for PLD and some Raisinets.
All this and more, after The Star Wars Holiday Special.
Lord, this just gets funnier and funnier! Raisinets!!
I say Toronto trades Marner for Laine. Toronto likes getting LTIR-type guys from Columbus. Leafs might also try to get Alex Nylander from the Jackets as well
I can’t believe LA got a „get out of jail“ card again.
Thank you, Caps!!
LA just got saved. Regardless if PLD bounces back
exactly, King's don't need PLD. Byfield looked legit this season and they still have kopitar and danault down the middle too. They just needed to get out of that contract and while Kuemper's contract isn't great either, it's less money and less term than PLD's

Surely he'll reach his potential with a fourth team...
Capitals bought capfriendly and thought the cap just disappeared after that
Avsfans will never forget you Darcy! 2022 forever!
So, one could say, that the Kings traded Winnipeg; Vilardi, Kupari, Iafallo, and a 2nd round pick... for Darcy Kuemper
Lol “this is one im like, is there a winner”😂😂
This could be a good move for both teams as PLD will get a chance to play top 6 minutes in Washington which he wasn't getting in LA and the Kings have a solid defensive system that can shelter Kuemper plus they walk away from PLD's extension.
PLD didn't get the minutes because he lacked effort
He didn't deserve top 6 minutes. It's always excuses with PLD, no accountability.
This trade honestly feels like it could be mutually beneficial. The kings needed goaltending desperately, and pld doesn't seem like he was going to fit their systems. The capitals, as i understand it, needed someone who has some semblance of legs left, and i could see his play style working with Ovechkin
Maybe not with Ovechkin. They're both too lazy. Problem is Strome and Ovechkin don't fit together.
I did not see this one coming
It doesn't matter who came the other way, win for the Kings.
Rob Blake may be a genius for pulling this off
You know...the people who keep complaining that Chevy needs to go from the Jets' head office....they really should just stop talking about Chevy. He got the mother load of hauls when he dumped PLD...just one of his many adept moves at dumping bad apples into someone else's lap.
So Jets get Vilardi, Kupari, Iafallo and Montreal’s 2nd round pick for Darcy Kuemper 😂😂😂
Nah we got that for Laine and Rosy

As a Caps fan, I had some impression about PLD even during his blue jackets day simply because he had a name that I'd never forget.
So, PLD has now moved to / been in Cbj...Wpg...Kings...Caps. Someone buy poor guy a mirror 😂.
Once upon a time, I was ticked Vancouver missed PLD. The reality was the team dodged a bullet. I would be curious to see if PLD would work under Tocc?
I can't wait to see how this trade plays out down the road.
Dubois traded from Washington to team in Antarctica to be named in 2030 for 3rd rounder, a pair of REALLY nice skis, a winter coat, and a pallet of non perishables.
you wouldn't get that much for him, maybe just a the winter coat.
No draft picks and no retention is insanse for this deal
that pretty much confirm Shepard with the Capitals next season
Finally. Now we can get work on going forward in the playoffs.
That lone playoff goal, was off of Nurse's skate. It was more about Nurse's terrible defending than Dubois' offense
trading this contract before the nmc kicks in is a pretty big gamble, but after hearing about how much of a locker room cancer he is and how many people were basically screaming at the kings to buy out his contract. I see this trade as a win for the kings especially for the locker room, if he turns it around in Washington cool, but for the kings this is probably one of the better outcomes we could have gotten. ESPECIALLY NOT RETAINING ANY OF THAT CONTRACT THAT IS A HUGE WIN.

I think if Dubious even flirts with 60 points again it will be a win for Washington. I also believe its more likely for him to return to form than a 34 year old goalie who in fairness only has had one really outstanding season and that season is getting small in the rearview mirror.
Plus we have Lindgren and I'm sure he'll re-sign with the team. Probably for around the same cap hit as Kuemper not more. Shepard will probably be a capable back-up too. Kind of risky taking on PLD's contract but the team badly needs C depth. Something that is tough to get in free agency and outside the early stages of the draft. Ryan Leonard is probably a pure winger at NHL level too.

I’m torn because I liked Keumper personally, but I also like the potential of PLD being 25 years old and “maturing” for us then being worth it. I guess time will tell who won this trade because the Caps need offense and are content with Lindgren in net.
He's 26 very soon. Kuemper did nothing but be injured and average when he played. As a Caps fan, i love it.
It’s hilarious that it seemed like Dubios tried his hardest to get to LA only to have it last a year, now he’s in DC for 7 😂
i wonder if washington buys out PLD now. Buying out Kuemper really wouldn't be help Washington in capspace but it definitely will with PLD
But wouldn't they be paying the buy-out penalty for the next 10+ years or something?
Out of any trade, this was nothing I expected. I also think it’s fair to say now that LA lost the PLD trade hands down
Washington has the potential to win this trade going away. But it's high risk/high reward. Kuemper could bounce back as well, but he's only signed for a couple of more seasons, so there's a lot less risk. If Dubois continues his play of late and his reasons for being shipped out of several cities already, that's a big cap albatross for Washington. Obviously, they're trying to maximize their time with Ov and see if they can find chemistry. It looks a bit like Loui Eriksson going to Vancouver, though.
If Laine gets traded that's going to make for a really leafy Laine-Dubois trade tree
The Capitals should get Laine, then they can have a line of players who like getting paid but don't like putting in the effort.
The only winner out from this trade is Rob Blake. He has saved his job as a GM ...
Condolences to caps fans 🙏
I would have liked the Kings trade, if they could have gotten like a 4th Rd Draft Pick, as well 2025 would have been great.
Total win for LAK here. PLD is happy b/c he's not getting bought out and he's still got 7 x 8.5 with his approval for all moves even to the minors. Haven't seen a player with less compete level for his career, especially for such a contract.
Goalies can bounce back and be elite into their mid-late 30's. Kings pick up cap space, shorter term. Addition by subtraction is a win already. Kuemper returns to AVS/Yotes/LAK form, it's a home run.
hopefully one of our young guys gets Dubois' spot on the roster.
Man Kuemper must be PUMPED to go from Washington to LA
The Kings won the deal. The Dubois deal is a more expensive, longer ⚓ than Kuemper.
Essentially…Alex Iafallo, Gabe Vilardi, Sean Durzi, Rasmus Kupari, and a 2nd just turned in Darcy Kuemper. Way to go Blake! 🫤
I will give him props for getting rid of PLD, but what a cost.

Both players underperformed greatly last year. Glad to see Kuemper go and regardless of how Dubois turns out this has more potential for Washington due to Dubois relatively young age. Curious about the other players Washington got in the deal (Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari). I'd like to see some information on them.

Wow! What a step down for trading a potential or suppose to be all star for some goalie.
Sometimes, there are no winners.
This is one of those times.
Great piece of work by GM Blake to rid himself of that 7 year commitment to Dubois. Dubois is a locker room cancer, , it's sad that he doesn't have the insight to make personal changes in his life.
Then why did he trade the farm for him in the first place, and sign the extension? He should be fired one of the worst gms in the league
Nothing wrong with his personal life, 25 years old making 8.5 million per year. Not everyone in pro sports has that ulterior drive to be the best, some are there for the playboy lifestyle that their paycheque affords them.
@@thanos2588I agree with firing Blake for his asset management. That being said, he did draft well and the swap with Washington is making the best of his major error.
