Thank you for this Paulo. I bought a P in December and it is now one of my favourite cameras. I had thought that the M cameras were too big, however, the P is the same size and does not feel too big which is strange.

Great review! Just ordered both of the cameras. (Not the monster lens of course) but I already had a Canon 50mm f1.4 and a f1.2 that I used with my Leica.
I have a Canon 7 which, I love but have just got a Canon L-1, which I think is the nicest of the Canon rangefinders. It has the pull out rewind crank found on the model P and cloth shutter curtains, so no worry about metal fatigue!
Marky Mark Rosales Yes, I’d estimate that it covers about 1/6 of the area indicated by the 50mm guide lines when looking through the viewfinder. It doesn’t interfere with the rangefinder.
You have bought the best LTM camera ever made. The 0.95 lens is more of an icon than anything else. I have it because it came with the 7s that I bought at a flea market many years ago. If I had to pay what they are going, I would never have one. 😳

Great review, thanks Paulo. I have an Industar 61 L/D 53mm. Do you think it can be mounted on a Canon 7?
Thank you for your comment. You can mount any L39 soviet lens in the Canon 7.please do not confuse it with M39 lenses that were designed for Zenit cameras and those won't work. It's perfectly safe to mount any Industar or Jupiter but also modern glass from Cosina/Voigtlander. Happy shooting.
You have to use L39 lenses or like you wrote Leica screw mount lenses. Do not confuse with M39 screw mount which inlay has the same diameter of the Leica standard but don't work on L39 cameras. The Canons use a standard Leica screw mount. You have a vast array of screw mount lenses, from Leica, Nikon, Canon and many other Japanese manufacturer. You also have the Russian lenses which are unbeatable for the price . You have modern lenses made by Cosina under the Voigtlander brand that are superb and benefit from all modern specs like aspherical elements, multi-coating, etc. It's a question of money, the Leica and Nikon lenses can be very expensive, the others less but by no means cheap.
@@paulomoreira007 I sort of thought that but am not sure how to find the right ones. I have the Canon 50mm 1.4. would probably like a 35 and an 85 just because GAS mostlu. If I search ebay I guess search l39 lens?

You've mistaken the H and L positions on the Canon 7s meter. The 'L' setting is for normal daylight (Low sensitivity reading) and the 'H' setting is for low light (High sensitivity reading).
Boas Paulo, tenho uma cânon av-1 de 79 , só consegui tirar fotos depois de trocar a pilha (dead),existe alguma máquina deste tipo que não precise de qq tipo de bateria???
What battery do you use in the 7s, I just bought one and have ordered both a wein battery and an adapter holder to correct for the voltage difference of the newer px625 batteries.
I got my copy of a Canon 7. It is flawless. The meter works but it only seems to go to ASA 100, making the meter somewhat useless by today's standards. No worries, I have plenty of light meters and planed on using a light meter anyways.
Good on you! That meter setting is not working properly, the Canon 7's meter goes all the way to ISO 400. It's not really a problem, most selenium meters are dead by now or innacurate. Besisdes, who needs a meter? :D
@@MichaelRusso Yes, the value depends on the shutter speed you choose, on some shutter speeds, 400 doesn't appear. Never mind that, just enjoy your camera and get a Soviet lens to start with, perhaps a Jupiter 8 , avoid shooting with strong sun and avoid the widest apertures.

Good luck in finding yours!
+kcphaid Yes, the lens is a milestone, just now we are wathching a plethora of 0.95 lens coming to the market, 50 years after this one. Apart those two differences, the cameras are virtually identical. If you plan to use super wide angle lenses a lot, then the coldshoe in the /s might be helpful, if you don't plan to use lenses wider than 35 mm, then the 7 would be a better choice because of the price. SwiggitySwagWhatsInYoBag Unique Gaming Content I too never use the Canon 7 with this lens, but looking at the latest 50/1.4 mm lenses from Sigma and Zeiss, it is starting to look compact! I have the Voigtlander Color-Skopar 35/2.5 permanently in the Canon 7 as I prefer wide angles with rangefinders and the Jupiter 12 doesn't fit the camera.
Sorry, no, you can't mount this lens or any lens for the Leica L39 or M system in a Canon EOS. You could mount it in a EOS M camera, but there aren't adapters for this lens mount (it's unique to the 0,95). You could have it transformed to Leica M mount and then use the M mount adapter in a EOS M series. Still, given the price that these lenses go I would get the EOS 50/1 lens if you are after such a lens.
Actually if you look on ebay you can get them for mirrorless - Ive had two adapters from the guy who makes them and they are fantastic - as well made as the lens and I use it for events on sony
I am very curious about that adapter. It seems very expensive. For mirrorless cameras it is possible to use the lens if an adapter is mounted but never in a SLR due to the flange distance.
I mean it is very expensive but its pretty much the onlyu one and it is fantastically made. no slip or anything just a solid adapter completely worth it if you get this lens
Hi, Thanks for the question. Well, you shouldn't use the J12 in the Canon 7 or P as the rear part of the lens makes contact with the baffles, this is to say the chamber between the lens mount and the shutter. The J12 will dent that area which isn't nice.
That's a problem...I really don't know of any good 35 mm lens in L39 that is cheap. I have the Cosina Voigtlander pancake 35/2.5 and it's excellent. Although not terribly expensive, they are not eaxactly given...
No, it's L39, meaning it's designed for the Leica standard (flange distance), rangefinder coupled. M39 lenses only share the same screw diameter but they will not work with Leica/ Canon, Zorki/Fed cameras, they are for other cameras like the first Zenit or enlargers. Sometimes people incorrectly advertise a L 39 lens as M39 and vice verse, you have to be careful.
I just bought a Canon 7 off of Ebay. I hope the seller is honest. I need to buy the 1.8, or 1.4 if I can afford it. I would like to get a Mirr 37mm for it but I don't know if the viewer can handle it.
Good choice, I hope you get a decent camera. The Mir 37 isn't for this type of camera. Even if you find a M39 one, it won't in work the Canon. You need lenses that are L 39, Leica standard. You have the Soviet ones like the Jupiters or Industar. Don't buy lenses for the early Zenits that are M39. The canon 50/1.8 is cheap and nice, I too would love to have the 50/1.4 though! As for the viewfinder, no worries, it can handle lenses from 35 to 135 mm.
Well, I wouldn't pay that for the dream lens, first I wouldn't have the money, secondly, its value is purely collectible as about 17000 units were produced (I believe).
moneesh kumar Please watch the video careful where I remove the lens from the camera. You have a sort of 2 latches around the lens. At the same time and with both hands. turn those to the left (camera lens facing you). Use gloves or a cloth to better grip those 2 extensions around the lens. DO NOT turn the lens, it will not come out because it isn't a screw mount lens. Be careful to place the camera on a table to do this, as the lens will become loose and can fall to the floor. Let me know about the progress!
Paulo Moreira Hi thanks responding, man those latches are stuck and dont budge i dont think my dad had ever taken the lens out ever since new ,anyways thanks for the tip will try it
Paulo Moreira hey thankyou !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sooo much it came off had to use a hand towel but it came off pretty easy the build quality of these camera's is soo good the light meter also works !! i cant thank u enough ! god bless u
Paulo Moreira yea have to try it out now have a bit of fungus on the lens and dont trust anyone in India to clean it lol its too rare and expensive to trust with but hope i find someone with the expertise to clean it ,thanks again
Who sits their camera in a position to let their lens burn a hole though their curtain. Nobody but hey, at least it won't happen to your Canon curtain. Lol...
Thank you for your comment. You'd be surprised about the number of Leicas (and similarly equipped cameras) that had shutter curtains burns, google it. This was the reason why Canon developped the metal curtains and Nikon the titanium curtains in their SP (half of them).

I mean it is very expensive but its pretty much the onlyu one and it is fantastically made. no slip or anything just a solid adapter completely worth it if you get this lens
hi. I want to ask a question. can canon 7 use the Jupiter 12 lens?
Hi, Thanks for the question. Well, you shouldn't use the J12 in the Canon 7 or P as the rear part of the lens makes contact with the baffles, this is to say the chamber between the lens mount and the shutter. The J12 will dent that area which isn't nice.
Paulo Moreira I didn't expect that. So, do you know any other 35mm lenses to use? (but they have to be as affordable as the Jupiter 12)
That's a problem...I really don't know of any good 35 mm lens in L39 that is cheap. I have the Cosina Voigtlander pancake 35/2.5 and it's excellent. Although not terribly expensive, they are not eaxactly given...
Paulo Moreira is it an M39 lens?
@@paulomoreira007 Thanks for the tip as I would probably find out the hard way :(
How much did you pay for this camera and lens together
That camera was bought with that lens about 20 years ago, with the shutter curtains destroyed. I think I paid about $100 for it.
100 bucks for dream lens, fuck yeah!
Actually depends on the condition. But the fact is, now you have to spend $3000 - $4000 for this lens
Well, I wouldn't pay that for the dream lens, first I wouldn't have the money, secondly, its value is purely collectible as about 17000 units were produced (I believe).
maybe get the 7s converted to cloth curtain?
Daniel Walsh That was an option, but it seems it isn't possible. I am considering the Pellix metal curtains, but is a long shot too.
Oooooo cool, it would be nice to see it back on its feet :)
Daniel Walsh It would be awsome, since the camera is fully functional, including the meter.
Exactly :)
i have the same one canon 7 with .95 lens i think my lens is stuck i cant manage to take it out can u pls help me thanks !
moneesh kumar Please watch the video careful where I remove the lens from the camera.
Paulo Moreira Hi thanks responding, man those latches are stuck and dont budge i dont think my dad had ever taken the lens out ever since new ,anyways thanks for the tip will try it
Paulo Moreira hey thankyou !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sooo much it came off had to use a hand towel but it came off pretty easy the build quality of these camera's is soo good the light meter also works !! i cant thank u enough ! god bless u
moneesh kumar You are welcome! I am glad that you have succeeded! Now you can enjoy the camera, at least I lke it a lot! All the best!
@@paulomoreira007 I am still shocked. Lol...
@@MichaelRusso The last case in my circle of relations was an idiot who left a M3 by the window for some weeks last summer to get rid of the yellow tint of the lens...sigh....
