      @@rave.201 the comment I posted meant to say that the importance of good support ships is as high as major surface combatants. Of course Type-055s are Chinese “Aegis type” cruisers.

    It should be noted that a ships range is not its "combat" or "patrol" range. One has to allot fuel for a few months of cruising in its area of operation and during this period, it may need to operate at speeds that are not fuel efficient. This may be flank speed for combat or very slow speeds using its towed sonar array for anrisub operations. This is why you need replenishment ships and oilers.

    I think they should revisit this ship's armament. Four AK630 is not sufficient for self-defense and is generally considered obsolete against modern threats. It needs to have HQ-10 and Type 1130 CIWS for self defense as a very minimum as part of a carrier fleet.

    • @TM-zo1nz
      @TM-zo1nz Рік тому +5

      I agree; although one could argue that supply ships are generally protected by destroyers and frigates that they travel with, but having better defense weapons would alleviate the anti-air defense strains on other surface warships
      Let's hope future supply ships built will have HQ-10 and Type 1130 CIWS

      @@TM-zo1nz while 1130s have their own self contained fire control radars, Im not sure if the HQ10 can just be bolted onto a ship without having to upgrade the entire fire control system onboard. As far as Im aware the type 901 doesn't carry any combat radars.

    • @TM-zo1nz
      @TM-zo1nz Рік тому +2

      @@hughmungus2760 I think the HQ-10 would need its own fire control, but supply ships would have enough space for that, it's just a matter of if PLAN wants to or not.

      this ship travels 25knots. its slow enough, adding more weapon to it would only make it go even slower / carry less supply / become larger target.
      as old chinese saying "聞道有先後,術業有專攻" let destroyer destroy, let supplier supply XD

    ......the FCS ships that are slower may not be required to keep up they just meet up. That said all the ships in the PLAN navy that are in supporting roles need better and more weapons. These ships will be targeted heavily ....with all the small drones, on under and above the sea the idea that a 071 or 901 can get by with a few ak 6-30 is a no no. Need to get some HQ 10s on that thing... even the RBU the PLAN uses.... all navies are making this mistake. A lot of ships out there with little to no protection.

      @@grid-panda although thats true, but it doesn't make sense to not start building them now when you can foresee the need in the near future. 901 would be the most important resupply ship for blue water missions and right now they have 2 only. you also need to train the crew and have multiple far sea replenishment exercises to bring the efficiency up....so i dont quite get it.

    Do you think that the PLA would ever conduct amphibious assaults on Okinawa or Guam in the event of a full armed intervention by the US and Japan in the coming Taiwan Straits war?
    Using SSM strikes to knockout airfields only works so well as the war in Ukraine has demonstrated, the only surefire way to take Guam/Okinawa off the map is by occupying them.

If we want to look at a historical example of how the US would react, look no further than 1941 in Hawaii. Hawaii was just a ‘mere’ territory with only a few hundred thousand people, distant from the US mainland. But the Japanese attack spurred the US into a total war footing. While it is debatable whether the US has the motivations to defend Taiwan in a total war situation, having Guam invaded would invite all out war.

    With BRI and BRICS doing well, China had to think pragmatically in case disruptive hegemonies try to interrupt global South development , harmony and poverty alleviation for all. If the Western powers HAD NOT come out with so many negative sanctions , threats,foreign policies: then the need for expansion of Chines Navy will not be needed. China would have preferred to 'hire' USA Navy as paid bouncers... that way ... a win-win
