3:39 Huge Volume Drop compensation - I just got this pedal and found that it sounds better when left in the guitar switch mode. I understand their intention to implement a keys setting to compensate for much hotter line-level signals, but I feel like it's expecting something ridiculously hot and drops it way too much. I've found the guitar setting sounds great all around (with no volume drop) and if my synth starts to get too hot, I'll simply attenuate the master volume knob on my synth. I haven't had any issues so far with any synths usually set around 12 to even 3 o'clock. Plus this works out better for me since I play a bit of guitar and switching over is a lot easier. Hope this helps! The most annoying thing to me is the fact the speed settings are also internal dip switches. So far there have been numerous times where I want to experiment with all the different speed options, so for now I'm actually leaving the wood cheeks on and the back panel off - it's in a safe location and never moved around so it'll be fine. But switches on the front or rear side panel would've made sense.
@@JorbLovesGear no problem. I actually just uploaded a setting run-through on two of my (non-Juno) synths going through every possible variation. I used the 'guitar' setting for everything and it sounds great - you'll barely notice a difference from the raw/bypass to the pedal. Included some other tips and discoveries as I went through the fast/slow stuff. ua-cam.com/video/S5Y6g02Z4U0/v-deo.html Forgive the poor production value, I'm not a content creator, but hopefully that helps!
Strymon sells an amplifier/attenuator for Eurorack called the AA.1 that drops the synth levels down 18db to send to a guitar pedal then on the return boosts the signal 18db for feeding back into the modular world. It seems like the internal switch just has the first part of that. I'm ordering one of these and will pair it with the return side of the AA.1. There are plenty of other Eurorack modules aimed at bringing the guitar levels put out by pedals up to line level or modular level, which is even hotter. On one hand I feel like the could have added an amplification stage. On the other, I wouldn't trust any amplifier Behringer would throw in at this price point.
I brought my 106 to a gig for a little pizzazz while we walked on. The sound guy was 🤔 trying to attenuate my blasting output into a DI into an A&H. Most sound boards can only attenuate -60 because the Gain control is an actual Gain control and the only trim to ground (true Voltage drop) happens in the Aux and Fader sections of the channel.
Remember the Peavey amps that came with chorus?? Ick, I didn’t like chorus for decades… until I found out how good it makes synths sound for super sneaky stereo width and subtle movement.
Amazing how this V2 sounds way better than the previous one. At least with a synth source... This one doesn't messes with the stereo phase, which the previous obviously did... It would be really useful to me! Thanks for the comparison!
I agree with you, I love chorus too. I tried to get one of the first version and they were all sold out everywhere. Maybe I can get my hands on the V2. Thanks for the video.
That particularly fast chorus rate is something I've utilized on my JX synthesizers. It does have a specific application. Sure, the JX models have a different chorus generator from the Juno 60 or this unit, but the outcome is largely the same.
Chorus just sounds nice. Another great option is the TC Electronic 3rd Dimension pedal. It has 4 buttons so again no tweaking. Just push any combination of the 4 buttons to dial in what you want.
Thanks! the obvious comparison I’m sure everyone was waiting to hear🤔...to me it’s sounds like they nailed it this time. I luckily do have a 106 but certainly think it’s worth the low price of entry and getting this pedal to strap on to some of my other old synths...
This was the review I was expecting. Thanks for saving me the time and embarrassment of sinking 60 bucks into what I'm sure is a great "premade" chorus, but just not a wise investment for someone who already has a chorus he's happy with. As a Juno-106 owner, I do love that chorus! But maybe that's what makes the Juno so great, and why I still keep her around. Look: butter is great on popcorn (and a lot of things), but not so much on breakfast cereal. Point is (if I actually have one): maybe not ALL of my keyboards need THAT chorus. I fully support anyone who wishes to make the plunge, but for me - I'll hold. I think that'll keep my Juno in a special place in my stack. Awesome review! Looking for more.
Can you go head to head with the Deepmind 12 with the June 60 v2 against the Juno 106? Maybe try a few of your 106 preset on the Deepmind 12 but tweak them to match with the June 60 chorus v2 instead of the software one?
I definitely considered it, but I feel like the nuance from different settings could never be spot on, and if that's the whole conversation, its tough to make any conclusions
Oh great idea! I have a dm12 and that would be so cool if the dm and june 6 were s match...consider 700+60 quid for that setup versus 2k+ for w real juno. Having owned a 6 and 106 , i dont like the fx on the dm, i only use delay really
Cool video man that was a good comparison, the exact kind i wanted to hear! It's a shame about the volume drop but not exactly a deal breaker for the price. Would be cool to hear more of your thoughts about using other effects pedals and such with synths? I've had a tough time trying to find a drive pedal that doesn't make my synths sound like a huge mess/ a tinny can of farty bees, or is that more the nature of instrument signal/vs guitar signal? Either way sick video, i look forward to more of your videos during your (hopefully) temporary unemployment 😁

Hell yeah dude a guide to guitar pedals with synths would be bloody great, i'd watch the hell out of that when it drops. That's a good point with the wet/dry blend, maybe i'll keep an eye out for something along those lines. Cheers for all the sick videos!
Thanks for doing this Jorb! The V2 is much closer now. It drops a touch off the low end like every other Juno chorus clone out there, but it's at least in the ballpark for a set-and-forget synth chorus. Liked what I'm hearing enough that I ordered one today, as well as a Walrus Audio Julianna for more hands on chorusing. Was looking for something to pair with a Dreadbox Nymphes that I have on order.
I pulled out that CS-9 to pair with my eventual Nymphes, thought the colors perfect. This June 60 is a great option, absolutely! The Nymphes is why I'm waiting to do 'redirect your gas // what to buy when you want a juno'
I really appreciate this! I've contemplated outboard effects, as you know, and the Fromel Seraph and Dimension C Waza were both on my radar for a kind of homebrew set and forget chorus. This sure does sound juicy for video game prices instead of gear prices.
I own the og version of the june 60 and I tried it on the 106 - gotta say I kinda like it better - the juno’s own chorus feels too much like its washed with it. Works hella insane on a ms1/sh101 too. Kinda wraps itself around the waveforms. Try it with ya sh!
I run it into the Aux in of my Amp or Not-amp and blend to taste alongside my Master. Being able to use a cheap 1/8" cord is both convenient and telling that I should buy better patch cords 😂

I got the pedal the other day from UK retailer Andertons. in term of authenticity, the V2 sounds like a brighter chorus. Use wise it does exactly what I want it to do despite the annoyance of internal dip switches and volume drop.
Definitely sounds better than V1. Hard to really compare to original without stereo though, as Junos were stereo by design. MOE makes an Juno-identical circuit stomp box in stereo with adjustable parameters and sounds incredible. Sounds virtually identical to me and will get you that sound, for the commensurate price.
I thought there appeared to be was a bit of an EQ difference with more bass on the Juno, but it could have been the volumes weren't exactly matched. The Ibanez did sound very different I thought
Hey Jorb. Thanks for this video. I've been thinking if getting one of these TC Electronics chorus pedals. You just sealed it for me. I'm going to get one. Until this video I did not know there were 2 versions. That was informative for me. I like the fact that Behringer added the chorus to the Poly D which I think sounds good in my opinion. I'm happy with it. Sorry to hear that you lost your job. I'm sure you move on to bigger and better things. I'll keep the hopes up for you. I wish you lived nearby to bring some of my synths over for you to talk about. Thanks again for the video. 👍👍👍👍👍

Plenty more to come! I have 2 weeks of severance, once that's up I'll start getting nervous. But for now, half the day applying for jobs, half the day making content. 🙏
Great comparison. They both sound good, but the Juno chorus is slightly wider and 'woolier' sounding to me. Because of the June's great look, I expected them to be a bit closer in sound. But yeah, 60 bucks is a no brainer.
Does it add a lot of hiss/noise like the original Juno chorus or is it fairly quiet? I stopped using the onboard Juno chorus pretty soon after getting one and opted for other pedals/plugins instead. (TAL makes a pretty good free VST "Juno" chorus plugin.) Interestingly, the Alpha Juno chorus that Roland made after the 106 was actually better in my opinion -- less noise, and variable rate speed controllable from MIDI! I really wish someone would emulate that chorus instead!
Great Video. Its interesting that you and other use the 106 for comparison. My understanding (and my ears) have the JUNE-60 much closer to the JUNO-6/60 than the 106.
I haven't! It's something I want to try at some point before I make my big guitar pedal series, since it's recommended so often. I want a few other multi effects to talk about though.. Not sure what!
Someone went through the trouble of matching all the juno sounds on the deepmind, chorus settings can get close! (it's me, I made all the patches) ua-cam.com/video/wpGJmCVR5es/v-deo.html
I bought the original and I think the version 2 sounds much better. Sorry to hear about your job, Josh. I hope this leads to a better opportunity for you.
@@JorbLovesGear That is an exciting thing, good sir! Looking forward to that. Sounds like you're going to make some excellent lemonade out of those lemons! ;) Let me know if you want to do a Zoom discussion for your channel about any of the instruments we touched on that we have in common (kinda) like the Nord Leads or the Sound Canvases. That could be fun if you want to mix it up! Peace.
Gday again Jorb. I pre-ordered 2 of these a few months ago and they are due in the next few days. I feel somewhat vindicated that i waited for a "proper" version. (One is for a mates birthday present) cheers!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS and commiserations on losing your jorb. Oops, job. If you feel like working in adelaide...
I got one of these and there's some faint crackling and popping sounds that it adds to the signal. Unfortunately will be returning. It would be a very nice sound otherwise
Non-Job Jorb, sir! During this excellent comparison, were you running the June as an insert, mixed with the dry signal? Because wow, if not, Version 1 is officially the prettiest paperweight.
I bought a June Chorus v1 and it works perfectly well with my BOOG Model D clone! Don't know why people hated it so much. 50€ well spent. Now I start to think my Behringer Pro One needs one too!
I had no idea the thing was only $60. I always expect these specialized things to be $399.99 or something. Best of luck to you on the employment thing. To help though, we'll watch everything you post no matter what. Take care.
And Boss is Roland so… I wonder if the Boss pedals are related to the Juno. That said, I did like the sound of the June 60…and it’s only $60 so…. And it *does* look cool.
Hi! I just learned that boss super chorus can output stereo, but only 1 channel is wet with chorus. Other one is dry. I think that is super weird. Please correct me if I'm wrong and why is this so???
Tons of different ways to implement stereo, maybe check out my guide to modulation pedals. For a stereo guitar rig, one side slightly modulated and one dry is a cool seperation
Sorry about your job! I love your positive vibe and silver lining outlook on life, though! I'll spread the word to help boost your channel. In the meantime, I hope you are feeling inspired and making some great music. Oh, and this video was a great comparison and demo -- very useful! Cheers!
I know you have nothing to do with it but I really dont get the point of keeping the switches on the inside. It's not like this pedal lacks the space on the front either. It just makes accessing the full range of sounds of the pedal a pain since you have to disassemble them everytime
I would bet they didn't want to re-tool anything after manufacturing the first version. They can change the circuit board a lot easier than anything about the chassis 🤷
I have one and love it, though keep it on the guitar setting. I disagree it sounds like other choruses, June-60 v2 sounds like a chorus chorus wheres as my other pedals mxr, behringer, dd-320) sound subtler.
My man, thank you, I've been waiting on this 🙌 Edit: yeah I've spent $60 on way dumber things. I have no chorus pedals and this is basically what I'd want to dial in so yeah probably buyin that Wait mannn that volume drop, wtf 😭
The chorus rates on an actual 60 are a little slower than the 106, and the rates on a 6 are a tiny bit slower than the 60. So it’s hard to compare just because of that difference. That said, the pedal sounds wider to me. Wider than your 106 and my 6. Almost too wide I’d say, like pulse width going to 0 sort of sound, which I don’t really care for. I think you’re better off just getting something that’s a little more flexible, like you said at the end. It isn’t really nailing THAT sound for me.
@@JorbLovesGear I made a ridiculously long and boring video about it, using the Alpha Juno’s variable chorus rate to match the other Junos and JXs. All those synths use the same chorus chips, just at different rates. ua-cam.com/video/RO3SsRC_TFo/v-deo.html
This is cool but no way its kicks the Keeley Seafoam Plus (massively underrated yes it's digital and mono but..) off my pedal board so unfortunately no buy, I prefer phasers to choruses though, the Walrus Lillian and the Whirlwind orange box (because opposites) particularly.
yeeah, stereo is kinda essential for what im trying achieve in the synth space. But damn do I love the walrus stuff, hope they end up doing a Lilliana, would love that in stereo
You need to use it as aux send instead of direct input. That way you'll match the sound level and will be able to control dry/effect mix signal. Cheers
I know the price difference is huge, but ive got the boss waza craft dimension. Sounds incredible and is true stereo. The only reason i bought it over the june 60 tho was because version 1 sounded nothing like the juno chorus and that was the only one available at the time. Nice that they made a second version. 60 bucks sounds much better than 220😂
@@JorbLovesGear i also have the waza ce-2. Its nice, but isn’t true stereo. One channel is chorused and the other is dry signal. It’s its own thing, and as a mono effect its great. But the Dimension is a desert island effect for me.
@@JorbLovesGear yeah all three. The ce-1 mode, ce-2 mode, and the vibrato mode. I actually forgot the ce-2 waza did vibrato. Its a really nice vibrato. But thats how Roland does chorus on their jazz chorus amps too. One channel wet, one channel dry. Mixes in the air.
after testing this I would say this has almost none of the magic of a Roland Juno 106 Chorus, which is one of my favorite choruses ever. Next to the Boss DimC. TBH I kind of hate this TC for making me think I might get a Juno-style chorus in a pedal...Is it not the point?? YES IT IS THE POINT. which is why they branded it so much like a Juno. Compared to all Boss choruses I think this thing is forgettable garbage.

Was going to buy this have u tried the Zoom ms50 pedal
I haven't! It's something I want to try at some point before I make my big guitar pedal series, since it's recommended so often.
I want a few other multi effects to talk about though.. Not sure what!
Can we get some more pedals and maybe combos? I just got a giga delay and it's pretty awesome especially the warp setting
Deep in the pipe is the synthesist's guide to guitar pedals...plenty of that will be covered!
Try the Boss DC-2W Dimension C Waza Craft
I’m getting a deepmind 12 should I pick one these while I’m at it? Great channel mate!
The deepmind 12 has a load of impressive inbuilt fx. And they're provided by tc and klark technic.
Someone went through the trouble of matching all the juno sounds on the deepmind, chorus settings can get close!
(it's me, I made all the patches)

@@JorbLovesGear dope af patches too
@@audreyazwell Cheers thank you!
Hi, thanks for rhe video. How to connect synth with output left and right if on the effect pedal is only mono in and out?🤔
Trs to ts breakout cables
@@JorbLovesGear thank You 😃😃😃
I pared up the poly d and grandmother together . poly has a really nice chorus . ordered the v-2 for the moog .. The June 60 works - V2 hell no !
V2 does a really solid job, I'm sure itll cut it.
after testing in all modes . Must send back it sucked !
I bought the original and I think the version 2 sounds much better. Sorry to hear about your job, Josh. I hope this leads to a better opportunity for you.
Cheers Ted! I will absolutely be okay, I mostly mention it so everybody is ready for extra videos for a bit. An exciting thing!
@@JorbLovesGear That is an exciting thing, good sir! Looking forward to that. Sounds like you're going to make some excellent lemonade out of those lemons! ;)
Let me know if you want to do a Zoom discussion for your channel about any of the instruments we touched on that we have in common (kinda) like the Nord Leads or the Sound Canvases.
Hope you enjoy them! Great little gift. Cheers! Is that in Australia? Let me find my passport 😅😂
I got one of these and there's some faint crackling and popping sounds that it adds to the signal. Unfortunately will be returning. It would be a very nice sound otherwise
So the keyboard is by Roland, and the pedal is TC Electronic? Awesome lol
Non-Job Jorb, sir! During this excellent comparison, were you running the June as an insert, mixed with the dry signal?
Because wow, if not, Version 1 is officially the prettiest paperweight.
😂Mono from the juno right into the June, stereo from there into the mixer
Juno 106, what a beast 😮
I bought a June Chorus v1 and it works perfectly well with my BOOG Model D clone! Don't know why people hated it so much. 50€ well spent.
Now I start to think my Behringer Pro One needs one too!
What about setting 3? I+II
The 106 can't do that, wanted to focus on comparing them.
I had no idea the thing was only $60. I always expect these specialized things to be $399.99 or something.
Best of luck to you on the employment thing. To help though, we'll watch everything you post no matter what. Take care.
It is a strong price point.
Cheers to you, really appreciate that. Always working on more !
4:15 is Mario 64 Jolly Rogers Bay vibes
High praise! Certainly in my brain
And Boss is Roland so… I wonder if the Boss pedals are related to the Juno. That said, I did like the sound of the June 60…and it’s only $60 so…. And it *does* look cool.
Boss choruses are all pretty different to the juno, let along they don't get stereo for a while after the juno (although some do wet / dry)
Great pedal, just what I needed
Nice vídeo! Thanks! Good vibes from Brazil ✌
🙏🙏Cheers, and thank you! Vibes received all the way up in the midwest US
@@JorbLovesGear ok, thanks 🙂
Have you tested the junologue? It is actually on github and it is "based" on tal's juno chorus
I haven't, don't have anything to load it on but I'm not surprised to hear that its available.
Love that aspect of the logue platform
Great demo!!!
Cheers, thank you!
How did you get the oscilloscope to do that while you played? That was cool great video!
ua-cam.com/video/ghfMBVU_6tQ/v-deo.html
Great demo, thanks! I agree, the June 60 sounds pretty good, not bad, not great. I don't think it's that close to the Juno chorus, way too crispy.
Probably due to the outputs on the actual Juno synth
Sorry about your job! I love your positive vibe and silver lining outlook on life, though! I'll spread the word to help boost your channel. In the meantime, I hope you are feeling inspired and making some great music. Oh, and this video was a great comparison and demo -- very useful! Cheers!
Cheers, thanks for all of it. If I'm anything, it's motivated. On to more content!
good overview. thanks.
happy to share it, cheers
Demo-tacular!
What is up with that volume drop ? Seems like a bug
Send like a huge issue... Don't think it should just be my unit, but it is a big problem.
@@JorbLovesGear oh yeah, solid point in this case, but I still see internal pots and switches in other pedals
me listening to this with just my phone speaker:
👁️👄👁️👂🏻📳
😂🤣😂🤣😅 Did *your brain feel tickled?
Cool channel. Subbed!
Much appreciated cheers! I've spent some time on your channel myself 😅
U sold that one to me) got the second version
This or TC 3rd Dimension?
Kinda different, depends on what you want. No hands on with the TC d, though
I have one and love it, though keep it on the guitar setting. I disagree it sounds like other choruses, June-60 v2 sounds like a chorus chorus wheres as my other pedals mxr, behringer, dd-320) sound subtler.
I'm going to have to get it back to the guitar setting...I wrongly assumed it would be a better fit, but the volume drop is too severe to deal with.
cool!
I gotta say, using this video for the metric..
Its REMARKABLY close...at least for setting 1. That'd definite.
I agree, depending on how your listening, quite close
My man, thank you, I've been waiting on this 🙌
Edit: yeah I've spent $60 on way dumber things. I have no chorus pedals and this is basically what I'd want to dial in so yeah probably buyin that
Wait mannn that volume drop, wtf 😭
It's bad. Don't think it's just my unit, but it is an issue for suuure
It's close enough.
I didn't know that, about the speeds of each model. Good info!
@@thesrabbit oh, I've watched that! Great stuff, I appreciate a deep dive
The Ibanez sounds better than both to me
You need to use it as aux send instead of direct input.
That way you'll match the sound level and will be able to control dry/effect mix signal.
Cheers
I checked my mail, no juno what gives ☺
Look closer, under the other gear
@@JorbLovesGear you son of a bitch how did you do that?! 👀🤣
commenting to bump you in the algorithm... you gotta make some bucks... don't want you to have to start selling all that gear.
Sorry to say, it's first on the list 😅 but truthfully, I will be okay
@@JorbLovesGear Fuck it. Il do the same! Right on brother Jorb. Don't let the bastard's grind you down!
I dunno kinda hard to go wrong for $60.
Synth Vaush
Whoever this is, I hope they're cool
@@JorbLovesGear Vaush is crap. You are way cooler.
Call me crazy...but i like the swirly white noise-y JX3P chorus better
Im sure there's a parallel universe in which this synths name is "Julius 107" and the pedal is called "July 70" 🤣🤣
youtube is a job 😭
In terms of work, 100%
In terms of money, for me, boy do I wish it was
I rather like your videos, so maybe the youtube thing will work out.
Much appreciated. I hope so too! But maybe not this soon
I'd pay $60 but I wont pay $80
I know the price difference is huge, but ive got the boss waza craft dimension. Sounds incredible and is true stereo. The only reason i bought it over the june 60 tho was because version 1 sounded nothing like the juno chorus and that was the only one available at the time. Nice that they made a second version. 60 bucks sounds much better than 220😂
I'm really curious about the waza CE-2, had forgotten the did the dimension. Yeah, can't complain about the price on this one!
@@JorbLovesGear i also have the waza ce-2. Its nice, but isn’t true stereo. One channel is chorused and the other is dry signal. It’s its own thing, and as a mono effect its great. But the Dimension is a desert island effect for me.
@@nickhaldin8674 really, I didnt realize that about the ce2. In both modes?
It’s 98% there lol
zzzzzzzzz
Not even close IMO.
the V1 was sh1t
