I’ve had the Zoom MS-50G for several years, and it’s pretty much the same but with amp and cab models for guitar and bass. You can’t beat it for the price and portability.
FYI: A company called ToneLib has a free Zoom software editor for controlling parameters on your computer for lots of Zoom pedals including this and the MS-50G.

The nice thing about the MS70-CDR that you can patch it to use the effects of its sibling models built for guitar and bass - meaning Tube amps with spring reverb and the like. Even more effect combinations than are already built-in!

Great video, and I was totally thrilled that the MS-70CDR is getting some much deserved love. I think it's awesome, despite some idiosyncrasies. There is another pedal I bought a couple of years ago, which is another HUGE bang for the buck and sounds amazing, but gets little to no attention on the interwebs. It's the Mooer Audio Ocean Machine. It's a dual delay + reverb with a lot of bells and whistles. I would LOVE it if you did a video on that thing....

I actually use three MS-70CDR's in my shoegaze band, where I play guitar and a Microfreak. the first one is at the very start of my guitar pedalboard, and I've loaded it up with a chain that includes a noise suppressor, a gate, some EQ, and some light compression. if you hold down the foot pedal for a moment, it enters tuner mode. so this one pedal takes the place of 4-5. the next one I use as Zoom intended. once I have a chain of effects that works for a particular song, I save it under the name of the song so I can easily swap back and forth when I'm playing live. the third one I use with my Microfreak. I modified the firmware so that it also has some of fuzzes and distortions from the MS-50G. they make the Microfreak sound so fat and warm!

I've been wondering if an effects pedal would be a useful companion for my MicroFreak. So far I've used an Audio In track on my Deluge to give it some effects. It's true the effects in the Deluge are nothing amazing but they're far better than none.

I do not have a microfreak but every time I hear it it's amazing you can get one new for 350 bucks. The zoom pedal isn't perfect but there's plenty of boutique reverb that aren't much better, cost twice as much and aren't as flexible. Add a distortion pedal and maybe a compressor and volume pedal and it can turn a pedal board into a much smaller setup than some people use.

That's a really nice unit because yu can make chains with it and also add presets. For the price it's excellent because it's programmable. Didn't see that one coming. Had no idea it did all that. I also need to get the decent sample, I can make "kontakt" like instruments with it as well as use your creations in it, that alone makes it a Monster. Thanks for the upload

Nice show mate. I've had the Blue and Red (bass version) for years. You can get some mind blowing effects if you really dial in the settings. I think 3 layers of effects is fine in the chain to get a clearer... less mushy sound. These pedals are not for tone snobs, he he. They work wonders on synths and drum machines. I produce UK Garage and Jungle, these pedals have been sampled and featured on about 40 EPs released my me.
Baby it ain't the instrument... These pedals have a cult following for a reason.
Bless you, love and respect from Berlin.

there is a ms-100bt multistomp, which is stereo as well, comes with 99 processors stock, but if you download stompshare on an old ipad or iphone, you get like 96 extra audio units for free. works practically the same as the ms70cdr, but with a lot more options.

I have this little unit and haven't even cracked the surface with it. It does so much and possibilities seem endless. I got it for the shimmer and backhole FX for synth but as learning guitar as well it seemed liked a good starter pedal as you can checkout different pedals FX . If not sure what the FX are at first. Rather than buy separate pedal everytime. For £85 British poundingtons it was a no brainer. I use mine through the FX send on mixing desk.

Good call for gear that most people can actually afford. I got an MS70 after Waveformer(youtuber) worked insane magic with his 3 MS70's. I usually dont chain over 3 effects and it behaves very well. Glad you mentioned the real cherry on top: that software that enables the MS70 to have basically any patch zoom has created loaded onto it. I have not even needed to worry about that yet. what is in there is almost too much. another crazy pedal you might like is the oceans 12 stereo reverb from EHX. it has 2 separate engines and a ton of combinations. BUT it is like $260. BUT still cheaper than the real nice pedals. PS. The freak sounds off the chain when controlled from a large keyboard. mono or paraphonic, you just cant play that keyboard beyond simple notes and doing noises. I made a demo video demoing several factory patches on the freak, but played from a yamaha MX88 as the controller. sections 3 and 4 dont even sound like it is the freak, but it is all 1 track, some with some reverb from the mixer ua-cam.com/video/unwbP8bXxMs/v-deo.html

Screeching: I bet it’s artifacts produced by the algorithms somewhere in the same place of the spectrum, that when your effects in the chain combines them up, they are reinforced to the point that they are noticeable. The de-noise works well because of this.

When I started getting into pedals for bass I started with the Zoom MS-60B. I don't really need it for bass anymore, I got an extensive pedal board, so now it lives next to my Korg Monologue. I will probably buy a Microfreak this summer and hook it up to that.
These pedals are far from perfect, but they do so much. I think the real magic in them is there being so many options that, even some aren't great, there's always another one and you can combine several of them for whole new sounds (sadly the MS-60B only allows up to four though).
The real weakness of these is the drive and distortion options though, the MS-70CDR doesn't even have any. I paired mine with a really cheap, but good overdrive that goes into distortion. I'd recommended others to do the same.

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  2 роки тому +1

The MS70 can be 'hacked' to load the guitar amp/distortion/etc stuff from the MS50!
Haven't tried it myself yet, but might give it a spin sometime to see what happens.

Well, yes and no. I call the Freak the Stephen Hawking of synths. Great brain, but the chassis... The physical instrument is clearly made from the cheapest possible components. On mine the headphone jack went in the first 6 months. And it's an import, so not worth sending back.
