The level of detail you offer in your videos makes it such a pleasure to watch. I loved the review you made for the behringer cat. I was hoping you would do one for the K-2 with all the historical background included. Awesome work!
It feels like they captured the nostalgic feeling of remembering the Juno Chorus rather than the actual gear itself. I would probably enjoy this pedal since my genre uses dark, distorted, and broken instruments.
Wow - your Juno-60 is in great shape! I agree with your assessments in the video and I'm glad you played other synths and guitars through it for us to hear. It was wild to see you playing guitar and bass! The pedal also sounds better for guitars than synths to me and I agree that it's strength seems to be for bass. I'm curious if you have any experience or an opinion on the Juno chorus feature in the Roland boutiques.
@@KeenOnKeys Thanks for the reply. 7:39 - This is because you're using a synth, with a bass guitar on the "guitar" setting the true bypass button turns it on and off. If you have stereo on, the the button mutes the guitar. I've just worked this out the hard way!
Great review! After being disappointed by the comparision with the Juno I thought you would put one of your older Casios through it, but hey - why not whip out another pristine looking polysynth?! You never cease to amaze!

Still, massive shame 'cause I was thinking "oh this sounds alright" and then the phase cancellations and sub-harmonics became apparent, aargh! Fantastically produced and elucidating video.
We had a Juno 60 in the band (high school kids) I was in during the ‘80s. I wound up with it even though I was the bass player. I had it for years initial I sold it a few years ago. I had a midi box for it that I’d bought to connect to Kong bass pedals. A friend had also given me the sequencer that went with it. We covered all kinds of bands with that and a Kong poly 800. What a great synth. I still have a Juno 106. My buddy moved to Australia and had to leave it behind.

I think the noise is aliasing. BBDs do alias too, so you need to filter before and after the BBD section of the circuit. Somehow the aliasing filters are not calibrated correctly or the BBD chip clone is just not the same as the original.
It sounds great on guitar! It kinda reminds me more of a small stone chorus when used that way though. Glad I saw this video before getting it for my MicroFreak

Great review! 👍It seems that, the june-60 isn't really the best option, when you're in need for a chorus. But if you're still looking for one, you maybe want to try out the komorebi from dreadbox. It's only a mono chorus/flanger, but it sounds amazing. Specially on synthesizers.
yiaks! you seem keen on strings as well ^^ it almost sounds like a octave downer in high pitched situations. let's take advantage of those strange artefacts given by this june 60 pedal.
If I'm not mistaken TC Electronic is Behringer nowadays. And a company that made great stuff in the seventies might not today because a different team of developers works there now.
Hey, great video! Saved me from a future regretted purchase yet again. I just wanted to tell you about the supposed most authentic juno chorus, the alpesmachines One-O-Six. With gain, rate and depth control it also offers some great improvements/expansions. There is a level meter, direct mute, effect on/off and even an external mod input.
I have no idea why, but my version one JUNE-60 first sounded terrible, but after removing it and trying for a second time with different cables, Behringer Model D synth and in stereo mode, it sounds really pretty now. My System-8 has a digital emulation of the Juno-60 chorus and that sounds equally good or even better, but comparisons are always dependend on multiple factors like output leves, wetness etc. If somebody wants to get rid of his JUNE-60, I would be happy to take it.
Since all the "magic" of an analog bucket brigade delay is in the pre- and post- filters required to make it work, at this point a much better recreation of a known quantity chorus effect would be to use a DSP with a bit of careful filtering applied to the processed signal.
indeed there have been very good recreations of BBDs in DSP for quite a while - line 6 DL4/echo park are quite old now for example, and i use digital BBD recreation effects pretty often. but there is a final 0.05% sprinkling of extra magic working with good analog delay/chorus/flanger effects sometimes. i'm not an engineer but you may be on to something in that TC/behringer would be better off with DSP than with their in-house BBDs, but at the same time, roland-boss has been able to credibly recreate their dimension chorus effect in both the digital CE-20 multi-chorus and analog DC-2w using Xvive drop-in replacement MN3007 chips. so it may come down to behringer wanting to use their vertical production chain instead of Xvive. i've heard plenty of great effects using CoolAudio BBDs, but i can't recall any of them having been supposed to recreate a specific vintage model effect except in the vaguest of terms.
open the baby up and there is a screw close to the yellow buttons, that can adjust the intensity (or maybe depth?) of the chorus. no soldering or tinkering around))))
My initial impression is the FX pedal sounds gritty compared to the Juno’s built in chorus. EDIT: You mentioned the distortion right after I posted this comment.
Very good comparison vid, cheers. There's also the Effectivy Wonder Juno Chorus (different but similar BBDs) and the Feedback Modules 106 chorus (Xvive BBDs) in Eurorack. Maybe running both June-60s together for stereo instead, with L/R from each would get rid of the phase cancellation.. not tried it with mine yet Whatever lens+post processing you're doing on the video makes it look very nice, almost like a 3D render (in a good way) quality
What a well done and informative video on chorus. The June-60 v2 is a disappointment. It’s as if the mod depth of the LFO on the delays is too high or something. You can hear the LFO slam up against a wall when it reaches its peaks. Roland’s Zencore emulations of the JUNO chorus sound better. Roland would probably make a killing if they made a Juno Boss Waza Craft pedal. Even with an absurd price tag. It sounds really good on guitar and bass in mono though.
A good keyboard for you to do a review on might be the Casio HT-3000 if you can find one cheap enough. There is the HZ-700 which is the same synth but with mini keys, but it lacks the mod wheel which the HT-3000 has.
Hi, I have just watched all your videos and am left wanting more. Your videos are excellent and so is your music. I think you are perhaps the J.S. Bach of our times. You mentioned on your first video that this is a new channel featuring budget gear, do you have another channel for me to look at? Thanks so much, Sam
I bought this pedal and it makes a nonstop popping sound and I’ve tried everything I’ve seen on UA-cam to make it stop. How can I make it stop popping while using it.
When I saw the thumbnail I wondered, that the synthesizer is that small and have few buttons. But it's the chorus section. So I can turn any analog synthesizer into the "June" sound. But I guess, it should attract also guitar players.
👏👏I suggest doing a video on powerbanks (rechargeable batteries) for keyboards and electronic keyboards. I'm trying to use my 5V powerbank with some adaptors and doesn't work un my ctk-900. It would be nice. I have a powerbank attached onto my new Yamaha pss (which includes micro-usb) and is cool. You can charge It and take It anywhere withoit worries. But with 9v and 12v keyboards depend on electricity or traditional batteries.
Great video and as a result I am not keen on June-60. There were some nasty tones / harmonics at times with that pedal and anything with plenty of high frequencies it rendered it rather shrill and strident to my ears. Thanks for saving me from major disappointment and £60. Thank you Keen On Keys.
I found your video really interesting thanks. I do already own one though and my use is to double chorus guitar by running another chorus into it. In my case the JHS Emperor. I think it sounds really good and adds something. Maybe that is just me though!
At first I thought “how could they sell an entire Juno in a pedal?”, then quickly realised it was just the chorus😅 it definitely sounds better with guitar than synths, but nevertheless still has some jankiness. A shame, considering their other pedals are decent (as you also said!), and their tuners are imo the best option around.
Amazing Videos the best in my opinion especialy for a guitar Player that IS a Beginner in this world. About the product I must Say that I Like the incorporated Chorus on the Ju-06a a little better even IT IS also Not so accurate. A Hardware recreation from Roland/Boss would be nice.
Agree completely with this review. I have both a Juno 60 and the TC June 60. It kind of captures the tone of the original, but IMHO doesn't sound as good as the original. I might use it on other synths, maybe to add some dirty chorus--but it's not a "go to" pedal at all
Honestly i can hear what you're describing and talking about, but it doesnt at all create aversion to this product for me, i dont find it "Unusable" in the ranges that are mentioned though, lol maybe thats a bit naive of me?
It's not completely unusable. I think I showed a lot of examples where it sounds quite OK. But it's not the "set and forget" chorus. It very much depends on the sound source. I still use it from time to time for guitar and bass.

I have a V1 and I was very disappointed by that. This one sounds way better. And yet it still sounds shit with all the dropouts. I bought a boss CE-300, way better.
I was considering getting v1 awhile back, but after some in-depth reviews I decided against. I really like the JHS chorus pedal I got instead. It can switch to vibrato and has controls you don't need a screwdriver to operate.
When you said "There's a strange noise in the decay" it almost sounded like there was a repeat of the original sound, just much quieter happening in the decay. It was a bit strange.
The volume difference between bypassed and engaged is way too high. Pretty much rules this out of live performance use entirely. And the mono behavior is rather ridiculous. It does sound pretty good though.
Great review. Thank you. Unfortunately this is a half baked product as most are that come from Behringer. The VP330 recreation was also a disappointment. Incredibly thin string section showing the same exact artifacts as this chorus. I took it apart and right away noticed the problems with their choice of capacitors and resistors in the audio path besides the implementation of digital circuitry in the chorus section where you got dropouts depending where you were on the tone scale. I’m so surprised that a company which claims to have the expertise is providing products that fall short. One of of those days I will design a chorus effect with all possible parameters exposed based on the one from Eminent 310 string synthesizer. I wonder if there’s a market for such a thing and what is the price point people are willing to pay. Again, thank you for the detailed and professional review.
@@vaiman7777 You are right about doing proper research. Thank goodness I do own the Eminent U310 and will compare my design’s performance to the original not only sonically but also electrically. Otherwise as you say it will suck. The one chorus that come very close to the real thing is from Tech21 Boost Chorus. It’s all digital but these guys have done an outstanding job in the digital domain and in my opinion comes much closer to the real thing than anything else I heard thus far. If you have a chance to try one, please do and let me know your thoughts.
@@christianratajczak3884 Will do. I'm happy with my Juno-60 chorus, thankfully it's very quiet and was rarely used prior to my acquisition. I'm looking for a decent reverb that doesn't cost me an organ part.
The Behringer VC430 sounds extremely close to my OG VP330 mkI . My OG is only a tad dirtier and has one more octave, but I was actually surprised at how close they sound.
In 2015 TCE were bought by MusicTribe AKA Behringer. I dunno if that changed the quality of components, and the quality per se of the TCE brand. Behringer aim to deliver quality but at a cheaper more competitive price. "Cheap Quality" is an oxymoron and while Ive owned/own Behringer gear Ive never much appreciated their mixers/outboard gear. Did you find a chorus for your keyboards in the end? Boss Ultra Chorus?
Please post tunes you make with your Juno 60 and Poly 61! Also, looks like you have an extra June 60 chorus on your hands. Feel free to send it to me! 😉
Really nice video as always, I like the demonstrations with different instruments! But I don't share your criticism about the sound that much. The June 60 V2 is not perfect, but way better than the V1. I think, if you would compare the TC June 60 and the Roland Juno 60 chorus in a blind test, you won't notice much difference.
I returned the V1 a day after I bought it. I had to pay return shipping (Thanks Sweetwater!), but it was worth it. I did not want that thing in my studio and wouldn't ever buy another one. What a cheap sell they were going for calling it the June-6 and then making it sound like utter garbage. This one sounds much closer, but also doesn't sound great.
Man, why does your voice sound like the guy from Media Division (a superb, if not best YT channel on video and film making equipment). :D It's definitely not just the accent.

What keyboard are you using with the Behringer Cat? It seems like a perfect fit and they look great together!
Arturia Minilab MK1 black edition
I was considering getting v1 awhile back, but after some in-depth reviews I decided against.
I really like the JHS chorus pedal I got instead. It can switch to vibrato and has controls you don't need a screwdriver to operate.
So true...I literally have some loose screws, cause I can't decide which final speed settings I prefer on the Juno :D
I hope TCE picks up the glove and make something outstanding in v3
Not Behringer, check your facts/research first before you make Chorus yeah, otherwise it'll suck.. Like saying Bugera also made this.
Do you own Loopop as well? I just realised your voice matches a lot with that guy.
To be fair, I think no two Juno-60's had completely identical chorii, mine sounds like butter drenched in raw sex and golden hour lighting
Please post tunes you make with your Juno 60 and Poly 61! Also, looks like you have an extra June 60 chorus on your hands. Feel free to send it to me! 😉
I have to disappoint you, of course I sent the second one back immediately. But I'll probably make videos about the two synths, maybe next year.
This one sounds much closer, but also doesn't sound great.
dude chill
Man, why does your voice sound like the guy from Media Division (a superb, if not best YT channel on video and film making equipment). :D
It's definitely not just the accent.
There is just too much aliasing and phase cancellation to make this a useful chorus pedal for my studio.
