I had some issues attaching the wheels (it was not really designed to be printed that big!) so had to glue them. Maybe if I get an RC system I’ll keep it historically accurate and have it barely work 😂
These cross section models are fantastic. The possibilities are endless for showing off things like oil rigs, airliners, armored vehicles, ships and submarines, famous buildings, etc..
A bamboo labs / calum collaboration is NOT something I would have ever expected. Ever. I mean …. never …. ever. I’m not complaining, I am very happy in fact. But I reiterate …… ever.
I just preordered my Prusa. Which is not the rolls royce, but more like an Arctic exploration vehicle. I will be happy to print with it in a few months.
Your models are amazing!i used to do a lot of scale model building and seeing you build them gives me the fuzzies and makes me want to dig out the glue and brushes! But.. quick word on the X1 - it works amazing, untill it doesn't. We have 2 X1C machines at work, one with AMS, 1000 h work on each. One can't print a circle since about 200h, nothing helps. We just accept the issue. The other couldn't work with the AMS after 100h, i had to run a metal ribbon through its drag chain and now one of its leveling sensors works only when it wants. You'll love them, untill one day they make you cry,
Absolutely incredible. Hopefully some day your son or daughter can take over future build-out versions and enhancements. Great help from Dad! Nice of you to have that time together.
BambuLabs has made 3D printing so much more accessible to the average person. An absolute game changer in the industry! Glad to see you getting into it Calum! Looking forward to see how you use it in your future videos!
Had no idea 3D printing had reached this level of development. Great model making and superb production value: can't think of a better way to showcase the printer capabilities. Glad you got the sponsorship! And looking forward to see what's up with that tracked tractor or whatever it is.
I have always been a sucker for illustrations that show the internal guts of different things. It would be so cool if you found a way to make more models that show a cross section of different things that interest you.
If you have an AMS or equivalent I can't recommend using an interface material for the supports. Like PETG as the last layer of supports when supporting PLA or vice versa. There are a few other combos of materials that just don't stick to each other, but those are probably the easiest and most common.
There's a video out there about using 3D printing to create a metal lathe and a drill press. They 3D print the external surfaces, put some mechanical hardware in it then fill the open sections with concrete. No, that's not a typo. The result is something which is quite solid (and quite heavy; nothing remotely flimsy about it). If you want to build out more tools for your workshop, check out their videos.
just picked up an A1 a week ago. Waiting on the AMS lite to arrive (I should have bought the combo instead of separately!) Surprised you didn't print a poop bucket first. Also, inb4 Calum floods the 3d printer arena with all the weird and awesome snow vehicles and land buses. 😀
Even though this was just a big bambu advert I’m not mad atall, I’ve just bought a bambu and it’s brilliant I’m going to print the rescue buoy as soon as I’ve got some bright yellow.. I’ll probably do that vehicle too maybe at a smaller scale
I love my 3D printer, I have been putting it to good use lately as we are re-doing the instrument panel on our aircraft and I have been making things like mounts for the caution and warning lights and such.
I’d love to start learning some modelling so I can start making some bits and pieces for my own projects. I’ve got countless wee bits for old machines and vehicles that would be great as 3D printed replacements!
@ I have been using Blender, it’s free. The learning curve is steep but there are plenty of great tutorials out there (Blender Guru on YT springs to mind).
Seeing this makes me wonder if an RC version would be possible, maybe not with that specific model but a modified one that'll accommodate the electronics. The hardest part would be finding wheels that'll look right, but iirc there's a guy that does custom SHERP atv RCs with custom made wheels. Those might be a decent choice if they're willing to sell the tires separate.
I know, I’d love to try and make this RC- the plastic hull is certainly tough enough! In true snow cruiser style I’ll have to make it incredibly slow and underpowered 😂
normally, I would disagree with you, but since this whole video is an advertisement, it seems like having more advertisements is a little disrespectful.
@@CullenCraft "entire video as an ad then..." Wow. That's harsh. I didn't think the sponsor spot was too egregious and I thought the effort to assemble this was admirable!
That is outstanding, I believe that is one of the best 3D printed models I ever seen, the only thing I would change is to cut out the silver windows and make them clear - you put so much detail it would be great to see inside - you should start selling model kits with your merch, don’t be afraid to charge good money for them either it’s worth it
@@CalumRaasay Guess it wouldn't hurt to construct a scaled up version and make it a lawnmower or snow plow hehe. Imagine having your own Antarctic Snow Cruiser as a household implement or tool.
Gets my vote for Best Christmas ad of 2024, doubt theres many tourists on raasay at this time of year buying coffee n candles and he's got heating oil to pay for
I get that it's a sponsored video, but I've rarely seen someone suck up that much to a corporation. The worst part (for me) was at 07:41 , like what?? The MVP is the software that didn't do anything different from a lot of other free software out there, and not the modeler‽‽ The person that probably spent days working on it‽‽‽ Also, if you use SponsorBlock it literally turns the 20 minute video into 14.
After years of using a ender knock off starting with G I was so frustrated at the speed of printing, Fussiness of settings and setup, experimentation. Etc. Keep in mind I'm not an engineer or even a computer person by profession. I paint cars. So yes I'm used to finicky fussy processes with lots of variables. And fully understand that some processes are just difficult. I splurged and got myself a a1. Wow. Most models or parts I print I simply find it. Use the profile with out any edits and hit print. And boom. It's done. I never wanted a printer that I didn't have to slice the file. Download it to a SD card and then go to the printer and baby sit the first few layers. But now I sometimes print from my phone while I'm at work. Get home and it's done. Being able to easily check on it as well as get a message if there's a problem. Is great. The base print time with out any edits and pushing the limit is 30% of my old printer. Not 30% less. It's 30%. Prints that took more than a day are now done in 8-10 hours. I love it. Worth every penny.
I’ve spent way too long looking at print progress on the app 😮💨 haha. But yeah I was blown away by them - if I’d known they were so easy I’d have got one ages ago!

Well, if I didn't want a 3D printer before (I did...) I sure as hell want one now - that Snow Cruiser was just awesome!
So proud of how the snow cruiser came out. It was a lot of late nights to get it ready in time!

Every cloud has a silver lining 😊
Calum that is utterly awesome, your antics with the coffee is hilarious!
This is one of my fabourite hebradian snow cruiser channels on youtube.
Wow, now THAT is high praise
A see-through window insted of the white windows would make this model perfect.
I suggest one small change: You should cut out the windows and replace them by some clear material (e.g. acetate or from packing)
Definitely, I did try but it was too thick! You do get clear filament though, so maybe I could try printing clear windows?
@@CalumRaasay That would be cool!
We need to petition Oxford Dicast to make toys of these things like the russian one, this thing and that land train thing as well.
Get them fitted with RC units too!
