He probably already got the vibe those 2 other runners were simply aiming to run a few seconds under the hour mark given the heat and not expecting any competition so he trailed close enough to simply out kick them both in the last km and they wouldn't be able to do anything about it given cheptegei was clearly holding back for 95% of the race. They also know that cannot out kick the 5k and 10k world record holder.
it wasn't 30 deg. I ran this race as well, it was 22-24 C. But the bigger problem was the polluted air. With every breath you took from your mouth, you could feel the soreness in the throat.
Such exciting races would be far more commonplace were it not for the preoccupation with pacers towing athletes to targeted times. Indeed, they were far more common in previous eras when The emphasis was on *racing.*
At 28, Joshua has 3, maybe 4 years to continue his winning ways in these distances. History shows that some young lions turn up and batter you into third or fourth by the time you pass your third decade of life. He'd better make the best of what he has left.

Kipchoge was 37 when he broke the marathon world record. That was his official age 2 years ago, although some claim he is several years older

Joshua is an amazing runner, but he's very prone to burning out.not as durable or consistent as say Kiplimo.
