Mate you have no idea how much your channel means to me. Back in oh hell must have been 2009 - 2013 I was a foreign student in England. And as a foreigner things were not really going the way I wanted them to be in my social life. And there your channel was with your almost meditative videos, helped me escape and immerse myself in your driving, it got me into racing games and modding GPLegends as well. So I graduated things got better, but then you stopped uploading. Then maybe a year ago I spotted a comment you left on Jimmy's channel and immediately it was like seeing an old friend, memories and nostalgia flooded in. I am just so so so glad you are uploading again. Please don't ever stop!
Cool. It is now Feb 2024 and just came across your GPL video to watch. For being an older game, this was one of the toughest racing games to drive the cars when I first got it. We have to learn how to drive them differently compared to Nascar or Indycar games back then. I have this game installed and working on my Windows 10 PC and seems to still run the game pretty good. Each race car in the GPL game has a different feel to them and the historic tracks are awesome. I never got a chance to race online with other drivers when I got the game, but did mostly single player with AI. Thaks for showing and racing all the GPL tracks. Take care.
In the early 1990's my brother and I mastered the racing sim WORLD CIRCUIT followed by GRAND PRIX 2 which we modified and heavily tweaked with gpedit, setting the attrition high for back-markers and watching their engines blow, adding drama to the backdrop of the real competition of racing each other. It was great fun customizing and saving car set-ups from season to season, studying telemetry, we were totally into it... but when GPL came out, we tried and tried but couldn't do a successful lap. No matter what the settings were, I could not stay on the track. Today I see you doing quite well with it here... very cool.
Lol. I swear, every person I've ever talked to who first grabbed a copy of GPL has the same story. Installed it, turned some corners, maybe one before crashing. Then eventually giving up in frustration. 3 years later after many updates to the SIM tire model/physics many of us rediscovered the beauty and magic of this SIM. And 25 years later it is still a VERY active community. Name another game that is still played 25yr later, that list is short 😊
I am so happy I recently found this channel. I enjoy your videos so much. The calm voice. The narration, and "getting in the other drivers heads". This has been an absolute joy to watch. The quality of your videos are top notch. You have introduced me to modders I never knew existed and made me ourchase a bunch of classic Danish tracks for Assetto Corsa. Thank you for being here.
Hi I watched the movie Grand Prix it's cool to see this classic racing here. I've always loved these cars and had a slot car set with them. My car was Apple red and my brothers green. They came with the thin wheels so we changed them to AFX thick wheels. Hours of fun going around the track. I'll be watching for sure. Thanks.
I was going to say I played a lot of Grand Prix Legends and don't remember the McLaren. That is so cool that modders are still working on it 20 years later. In league play I mainly used the Cooper and the Eagle. I was surprised when you are about to start the first race after loading the standings and the car setup screen showed a 10:1 steering ratio, I believe back in the day I used 14:1 or 15:1 on most tracks.
Didn't catch this live, only discovered your channel afterwards, but I've gone though and watched this whole stream. I had no idea GPL was still a thing in 2021, let alone looking so good! I played this with my late father, as a child in the early 2000s and the dose of Nostalgia and the flood of good memories really blew me away. Well driven that man! Have a wonderful day and I can't wait to watch more vids from your channel!
Watched the stream throughout the last week and enjoyed it a lot. Another time you probably win the championship due to Clark having a DNF or 2 or a couple things going your way. Would defiantly watch something like this in the future and look forward to similar content.
This was a great stream. I know it took a lot out of you so we might not ever see anything like this again, but it was very entertaining. I voted for you to drive the McClaren but they put you in an Eagle and it turned out very well.
Crazy man! A seven hours stream! 😄 I'm enjoying it a lot! I didn't know this sim: it's gorgeous! After more than 20 years it doesn't look that outdated... Of course modern games are better looking, but not that much! Gonna try to find it! Thank you GPlaps, great fun!
Pretty interesting- I got your videos in my feed after thinking of getting back into sim racing. I was ranked ~400th worldwide back in the heyday of GPL. All my AI races were using 100% realism and full race length. I stopped sim racing when I started RL club racing. With Covid going on I may give sims another try.
Good work! I missed the live stream but have watched it all now, nice sunday video. Axelson, are you family from Sweden?, thinking of the aftername.. Well thanks for the race, good show. Merry Christmas.
Amazing effort to do all that driving, Jake. Glad you got the Eagle. Shame the DFV proved too reliable. Not too much AI shenanigans, apart from Mosport. Don't forget to edit your AI file to remove Hulme's impossible time. On a personal note, stunning to see the BRM God Michiel Pompert and the absolute GPL God that is Greg Stewart (-93 GPL Rank, 2nd all time) in the live chat. It was like meeting your heroes for me.
i remember running practise laps with Greg Stewart back in the day when he and his Aussie mate sorry forget his name were ranked 1st and 3rd in the world well let me rephrase that when he and his Aussie mate would lap me every 3-4 laps on any given track
What an impressive driver and what a great game ! Always at the top with successive community updates ! I played it a lot a few years ago but a full season in a row ! Alien driver ! I have a question about the Monaco poster. I've seen many of these very nice drawings before (in GPL times ;-))and I don't remember the name of the artist. Someone has a better memory than my old one ? :-)
Its the official poster for the 1967 Grand Prix! I think they were all done by different artists. I bought the one I have on the wall from www.etsy.com/shop/VoilaVintageStudio
@@GPLaps OK, thanks. It is not what I thought. Many years ago, I got nice pics of the 67 cars done by the the same artist. Lost them since. Was what I searched.
the stream was great, I will definitely be reinstalling this classic. I installed gpl mod for assetto corsa to get my open wheel fix and smashed out some laps at bathurst (mount panorama) only because ive been hot lapping there with another car. Turned out to be a heaps fun track in these 67 monsters. If you mess with assetto at all I would love to get your impression of the track and see a few hotlaps
man i really enjoy your channel, i started playing GPL back in 2001, and played on line untill 2008 . You are really fast and smooth, didi you put the Ai's in full speed? i remember you could adjust Ai's in diferent levels, they could race with you or against you. Also your Asseto corsa videos are very enjoyable too, thank you!
Really enjoyed the stream Jake but I personally prefer a full season, one race at a time like you did with the 65,66 and 55 seasons. This way you won't burn yourself out. Don't get me wrong, the stream today was epic but I like to see your videos on a regular basis. I'm sure after today you won't want to do another GPL race for a while.lol Keep up the great work. I'm sure that I don't only speak for myself when I say that your videos are something I look forward to. Have a great Sunday.
That was an amazing run. You mentioned a setup pack at the start. Could you paste a link to it? I never trust the base GPL setups after the low ride height thing. Also, what patches / mods were you using on this? I have the 1.3 install, but it looks very different.
Having watched to hour 6 now, my question is answered. The 67x mod: 67f1.gplworld.de/downloads.htm. Got it now & it comes with setups. A video all about GPL mods would be great.
Hello and congratulations for the video! I wish I had a 1967 GPL like yours in the video with all the graphic details you used! Is it possible to have it? Thanks
Love this...I did some custom sounds for this back in the day. You needed a cpu patch for it 20 years ago, can it run on a modern pc? P.S. Have you seen/driven the GPL mod for Assetto Corsa? It's bloody champion! Was over the moon the discover it.

Thanks so much for posting this. Former GPL player circa 2005-ish. Drove it religiously, almost daily, for a long time. Thinking about jumping back in, my copy is long gone... Is the original game available for download or only the demo?
I used to have the original CD game a long time ago, now trying to remembering how to play it does seems hard with a control, because it doesn't take the keyboard, and my racing wheel doesn't seems to be able to play the game
Hiya. Nice blast from the past .... How are your tires holding together with so much sliding and opposite lock? Also you seem to be going through bushes without damage? Are you playing in "no damage" mode? .... Also this seems more forgiving than the original game from 1998. Is this a modded version of GPL ?? Thanks. and great video too.
Fantastic video! I mean, I didn't watch all 7 hours, but certainly snippets of each race and your skill at driving each track. I had this game back in 1998, and modded it a few times but lost interest. I'd love to get back in as I have a close friend that races classic Formula Ford and would love to build a fun sim for us in his shop. How and what do I need to get back into this to the level at which you are playing it? PC is easy.. but what are you using to drive it and the mod package? Thanks!!
This brings back so many memories of my days of GPL. Leagues, pick-up races, etc... What a great sim. What is your name on GPLRANK? Mine is Buzz_Leonhardt if you'd like to compare. I'm no speed demon but I loved the sim.
GPL has great exhilaration but I'm struggling to understand how these car's bodies move like the springs are attached vertical or have no anti-roll bars. Even mid-corner with a little throttle variation at 39:10 for example. Or is this supposed to be the drivers head movement? Where I believe our eyes/brain would filter it out from our vision in real life? The movement is the same under acceleration as braking, where I fail to see the Gforces would be the same. Automobilsta has the same look with the Karts, which I know from experience is wrong. Karts are tight and the first experience of any dive/roll like movement should be when you slide.
Question. What AI settings did you use, or did you leave them at the mod default? I know in GEM you can adjust AI speed settings. Great Stream BTW! Also, you need to come do another race in L-Open, Lou insisted.. 😂
5 gears... only 12 cylinders? You need 6 gears and a full compliment of 16 cylinders- The subsonic clatter from the engine is enough to disrupt those insolent double four valves.
Complaint about Blue flags is simple, the blue flags are ONLY for the player. The interviews with the Devs from Papyrus commented that many of the reviewers complained about that not understanding that showing an AI car a blue flag was not in the game.
