    No if you need to dive for a ball and its a routine ball for the short stop you should not try to field it. This can be tough though because sometimes you may not know exactly where the short stop is. It also depends on the speed of the ball. As a third baseman you want to cut off anything you can, except if you have to dive for a ball that the short stop can field easily. Hope this helps.

    Its a move you make with your feet when you need to create space to catch the hop you want. I haven't made a video on it yet but I will at some point once I get some free time.

    I agree with you. Most young players take for granted making the routine play consistently. There are so many players to chose from it is tough to pick the best out of all those categories. Beltre is a terrific all around 3rd baseman. I really like Machado. He has a cannon and is very athletic. Scott Rolen was a great third baseman, especially back when he was younger.

    Thanks! Yes throwing from a lower arm angle definitely helps when throwing on the run.

    played short stop over the summer, made about 2 errors in 30 games. now playing third and i just cant do it, maybe its how the ball comes faster and less time or the longer throw but third base sucks man

      Haha it's definitely a tough position to transition to. Keep getting your reps and you will slowly get it

      Trust me it’s tough some days even for slow pitch! Glad I’ve done a lot of research on infielding baseball tips! Great content, I’ve been able to field and make great plays! But since then I’ve had an issue with throwing on the move accuracy...

    I appreciate your videos, send the links out to the teams I coach frequently. I don't find the drop step easy to drill or teach (feels mostly instinctual), so if you can get around to that video at some point that would be great. The 3b positioning request below is also a good one.

    great video, one thing Id like to add is a Ryan Zimmerman actually in the video. Charging forward its easy to spray a ball over past the 1st baseball if your try to throw overhand on the run, you just wont get the control you need. Instead, practice "whipping" it sidearm to 1st base as Zimmerman does in the video

    Very good video on 3rd. The only thing I'd add, that I feel is important, is controlling your breathing and identifying the ball as fast as possible off the bat. The sooner you see it, the more you'll know it's end point. Breathing wise, you have to constantly relax and let your body instinctively react, you can't do that if you're holding in your breath. Try to exhale as the pitch is getting to the batter.

    Is a dropstep the purpose of giving you more time to react or what does it give you the advantage to do?

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  7 років тому +2

      Yes more time and also gives you a better hop to field. Good question!

    On a routine ground ball I would say most guys get a four seam grip every time. But on a double play turn, slow roller, or quick catch and throw play you just throw with what you got. Sometimes you have a four seam grip, sometimes you don't.

    In the infield in general... How often do guys actually get a 4 seam grip when they throw the ball... Do they just sort of grab it and get rid of it... It just seems too quick for them to every time get a 4 seam grip and get rid of it as fast as they do

  • @Gabybaseball

    How do you field between 3B and SS? A fast grounder doesn't allow for "calling it." We had our third base man and short stop run into each other. Should the third baseman go closer to the infield and the short stop always go behind him? Is there a general rule?

    • @DrBlackApple
      @DrBlackApple 8 років тому +1

      Good question. Me and my shortstop run into this a lot. Best way to do it is go with who has the momentum toward wherever you're throwing. It needs to be decided off the crack of the bat. And if you know you have the momentum, call the other off

      StigmaticSiren3 When instead of charging the ball you take a step back with either your left or right foot to create more distance to catch the ball.
