I agree with everything in this video, but Diego isn't actually wrong. People with severe Alzheimer's do forget to drink water and become ill because of it.
The brain has many signaling functions, including hunger and thirst signals. When someone has severe Alzheimer's, brain matter begins to atrophy, and you can see loss of brain matter and activity on brain scans. When the part of the brain responsible for thirst signals, the hypothalamus, becomes affected, they lose the ability to feel thirsty.
You can't have a function if the part of the brain responsible for that function is damaged or destroyed.
