James Roberts is a comic, with autism, from rural Washington. From towns so small that no one has ever heard of them, so he had to tell people he was from Chehalis, the closest city to him, and people still had no idea where that was. With little to do, besides hit trees with sticks, James spent his childhood making his friends and family laugh. A pastime that influenced his desire to pursue stand up comedy as a career. However, growing up with more trees than people, and although he didn't know it at the time, his autism had given him similar social skills as Helen Keller. So he had no idea where or how to begin his comedy journey, but once he did, he hit the ground running, making the finals of the very first open mic comedy competion he ever entered. He quickly got recognized as the funny guy in the red flannel. Making the quarterfinals of Tacoma Comedy Club's "comedy voice" competion, semifinals in Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Comedy Club's "Funniest MF out here" competition, competed in Washington's funniest mammal competion, and was even selected to compete in the 43rd annual Seattle International Comedy Competition. Whether he's telling jokes about how he was diagnosed with autism in his 30's, his awkward dating experiences, or singing a funny song; Whether it's at an open mic, showcase, or competion, more often or not, after the show someone will come up to him to tell him he was their favorite comic of the night.
