When I left my ex, I left behind her cat that had bonded to me. A month later she called and said, 'come get your cat, I haven't had a nights rest since you left'. I love that cat. She loves me.
With my cat, she'll meow every time I leave my house. Even if it's just for a quick outing. She'll meow and cry. When I'm back she'll nuzzle me and greet me. She's such a sweet little cat
My cat used grooming as a method of soothing me when I was especially upset when I was a teenager. I was depressed and very nearly suicidal and whenever I came close to that threshold, he’d insist on cuddle time and just groom me until my mood improved. He was my angel and I’ll never forget how many times he saved my life. RIP Tig.

I bought one of those donut fluffy beds for my Ms. LEXI. Couldn't figure out why the fuzzies were wet in the morning from her licking and chewing on it. Until I saw your story about licking and biting. Now I understand ..... it's her security blanket. 11:20
my gorgeous Tiger, a country rescue who was uncared for & would regularly 11km to the local Chicken Treat for food & company, so I had to learn VERY quickly that I just had to let her climb on things, as she could no longer go outside & run free now living a the city & about 800 meters away from a busy hwy. Anyhoo.. she will often sleep by my head on nights when I have seizures in my sleep , keeping watch over me & bites me to wake me if they get too protracted. I can control them better when I am awake & she's aware of this. She used to come up & sniff my face when she could pick up that I was about to have a seizure... one time she wouldn't let me leave to head of to spend time with my family, as she would not stop sniffing my face! After 20 minutes I had to force her to stop so I could leave in time.... 2 hours later I experienced THE worst seizure storm that I'd had to date, it lasted for HOURS. So after that I would listen when she'd sniff my nose. Now she knows that I know the warning signs, she's stopped diagnostically sniffing me, but still watches over me, or comes into the room I'm in when I'm trying to ward them off. She's the best $250 I have EVER spent, & not just for the seizure warnings.
My siamese used to give me love bites (bite and head shake). I started saying "Ow!" and ignored her when she did that until she figured out I don't like it. Then she started giving me kisses instead so I told her thank you and pet her every time so now I get kisses instead of bites 🥰 And now she knows the word "kisses" 😂
This fills me with hope for mine who does the same. And she goes for the most tender skin of my inner arm too. (And I think she's got a little siamese in her too.)
I should say "Ow!" too. I don't really mind the love bites, but I'm getting confused in the communication, if it's a "love bite" or a "stop bothering me" warning. So I generally already pause the petting. Maybe the "Ow!" could clue her into the cause of the break, so that she stops it.
We often forget they’re just “catting” and don’t know the difference. Gentle and persistent correction not only shows respect for their intelligence, but encourages them to WANT to show affection in a way you find acceptable. I had a biter, once, and she never got away with it. I never hurt her, but she learned a bite resulted in a nose bop, and she did NOT like that. I trained it out of her, mostly, though she slipped sometimes. When she did, though, she usually caught herself mid-bite and then scrambled off my lap before I could bop her nose. Seriously, I was very gentle about it, but she knew it was admonition, and she was so enamored with me, she couldn’t stand the admonishment. Best kitty I ever had the pleasure of being aquatinted with. RIP Mistletoe!
Mosey was a Maine Coon mix that was the biggest cat I ever had. He was a reserved gentleman who required a pet before work, acknowledgment when I cam home, and “his” corner of the bed. One night I was watching Titanic, and burst into tears at the end - I was possibly the only person who hadn’t seen the movie, and Rose returning to Jack did me in. He got up from “his” chair, walked over, and sat down beside me with a grave expression on his face. Slowly, he raised one paw and put it on my arm, as if he was trying to comfort me. I cried all over his fur, which he didn’t think much of, and that night, long after the waterworks were over, he came up to the pillow, gave me an uncertain look, quickly head butted me and returned to his corner of the mattress. It was like living with a shaggy reserved uncle, but I loved that cat. Had him 16 years, he’s been gone 15, but I still miss that cat.
I believe they know so much more than we could ever imagine. I'm so glad Mosey had you to love him and give him the best life. I know he gave you the same. I've had a few experiences that make me believe they don't leave us. They're just waiting for us.
I honestly love the licking, nuzzling, and smurgling, and I tolerate a little biting. I make a "meep!" of pain and withdraw and stop contact if my cat gets too rough. Over time we've both figured out what my limit is before she starts hurting me, so now she rarely goes too far.

I found my kitten at 3 weeks old. She was all alone and crying. I took her in and she's adjusted well so far. I fell in love with my kitten instantly. I'm going through the licking and biting stage now. I named her Sabrina and she's thriving.
Love the "head bonk" my cat gives me. Peak of affection also causes desire to mark with the scent. Being cat's property is a complement. It's possessive and similar to human love. And speaking of toxic things - make sure you clean your floors with safe chemicals, because the cat will pick them up, lick itself and consume what's on the floor. Be conscious of where the cat spends its time and what might get on its fur. Keep the environment safe and clean.
I've had my boy since he was a baby and he's unfazed with me just getting all up in his face bc I've done it since he was babu, he even usually meets me in the middle by bonking me first lol
A cat laying in your lap, purring, and bathing is like hypnotic meditation for me. A can’t think of a more comforting, relaxing thing in the world, including when they decide to give you a bath too.
Nah, dogs are the same. We domesticated them to make use of their hunting- and resource guarding, and we're still their biggest resource. I'll never understand how dogs managed to make us believe we're their masters, while everyone understands exactly what a cat's motives are.
@@helenafranzen9828 uh no. you dont have to walk cats, you dont have to pick up and carry their shit in a bag. cats can fend for themselves except in terms of food. unless they re outside cats. i dont have to walk my cat 4 times a day for 30 minutes per walk. i dont have to pick up the poop and put it in a bag and walk around with it. THAT is being a slave. you re a slave to dogs. not to cats. cats respect your boundaries. dogs dont. if you ignore a cat, the cat realizes you need some alone time, if you ignore a dog, the dog will annoy you even more. FORCING you to interact with it. being a dog ''owner'' is litterally slaving for some stupid creature.
no dog ever thinks you "own" them; dogs think of their human(s) as their family/social group/pack and ideally also as their leader they can rely and lean on so they can chill while knowing they don't need to take care of anything. but i guess that isn't as catchy as the tired old, lame, needless "dogs vs cats" bs.
I tolerate it as long as I can. Constantly petting her and saying good, great kitty. Also, if I don’t wake up exactly when she wants, I get the cold nose press to my eye lids and pawing to my face. I wonder, is she really concerned if I’m alive or just trying to say, just pay attention to me?

I adopted my cat, Buffy, behind my parents backs right after turning 18, and it was the best decision I ever made. She's adorable, vocal, and the softest and cuddliest cat I've ever met. I can't imagine my life without my boy now after a year with him I'm totally crazy in love with him he is my best friend and my cuddle buddy my sweet pea my sugar spicy baby boy and my goosey goo
About biting.... if your cat bites too hard, yelp "ouch" and pull away quickly (but safely). This teaches your cat that the biting hurts, and they will stop. It is a socialization cue they use as kittens not to hurt each other while playing. It works with cat/human interaction as well.
This was how I trained my cat to bite me less hard. They understand when I say “No.” They know if I say “No” that they are doing something they shouldn’t do. I don’t yell it at them, but in a firm tone I will say “No-no.”and they will stop what they were doing (most of the time). Instead of ouch, when my cat would bite me I would pull my hand away and say “no-no.” After some time, she began to loosen her jaw when she would bite to the point she doesn’t hurt me anymore when she bites. She compromised for me 😃 and I make sure to tell her how good she is for following my instruction.
@linda-ks9pf I actually use a clicker and train my kitties. If I had a real stubborn biter, I would use clicker training to deal with it. I have used clicker training on stubborn behaviors, and it transforms every bad behavior I have worked out with my kitties. Also, doing the "ouch" method requires repetition. Kittens are really stubborn if they were strays or had someone using their hand as a teaser when very small. What you will find is cats (in general) - love routine. So, if their routine was to get frenzied, takes more effort and attention to break that bad habit. Just do not stop working on it. Watch your cat closely and figure out what seems to make it tick when it attacks. After you narrow down why you think it started attacking hands, you can help them unlearn it.
I’ve started saying “gentle” in a firm voice when my cat has gone from licking me to biting me and she’s actually got the hang of it! she’ll usually go back to licking after that
You can teach cats things just as well as dogs. They only need a reason to.. They will not follow their leader blindly like dogs.. Cats are independent, non-pack animals, who makes their own desicions..
Yep, mine too. I've also found out if I say "easy, it's okay, you're ok" when he's freaked out about something, he will calm down. Like the time I took him in the back yard on a Flexileash and he BOLTED under the table to run back inside, so I dropped the leash. But it got tangled up in the patio furniture, and he FLIPPED OUT. I couldn't get near him because he was like Edward Scissorhands in a blender, but that had the effect of tying the leash around HIM, which only (very understandably!) increased his panic. So I told him that, and he stopped thrashing around (and just laid completely still) long enough for me to untangle him. And then he ran behind the washer. :(
I wish I could do that with my cat but she's deaf. Not sure how I'm going to get her to be more gentle with her biting when she's playful. BTW, she's only 12 and a half weeks old so it may just be her kittenhood.

my former cat molly would only lick me when i was upset or sad. i’m convinced it was her way of taking care of me. she followed my parents home shortly before i was born, so for the first 18 years of my life she was a constant companion. she followed us when we walked the dogs, brought us chipmunks and moles and birds and rats. in old age she was very frail, but till the very end she was still trying to protect and care for me. she lived a long life for an indoor outdoor cat, and sometimes it feels like she held on just long enough to see me recover from my severe depression and anxiety. it feels like she didn’t want to leave while i was still in danger, even if that danger was invisible. anyways, just wanted to share because i found your videos after adopting a traumatized rescue cat and you’ve been so helpful, but the comments of people sharing their stories of the love and companionship their cats provide always pulls at my heartstrings and reminds me of molly. i’m slowly building up trust with fonz, my new friend, and i can’t wait to have that bond with him.
My cat died/disappeared just as my mental health began to get worse. She's just one more thing that was taken away from me and contributed to my horrible mental health spiral.
Abbey, that is such a sweet and heartwarming story. Isn't it amazing how "in tune" cats are with their humans? Of course, there are idiotic folks out there who refuse to believe that cats bond deeply with us and serve any purpose whatsoever. Those are people I don't wanna know or have in my life. I love your story because it demonstrates so beautifully how there are strong bonds and intense affection between cats and their chosen human or humans!

My 3 year old kitty lost her mama when she was only 3 weeks old. So, she still acts like she's a baby. She doesn't lick, but she really loves being petted and she loves when my 15 year old cat licks her. She is definitely in kitten mode still. My 15 year old cat left his mama at an appropriate age, so he has been happy to take on the daddy or older sibling role for my young cat. He just loves washing his little buddy. Both of my cats make tons of biscuits on me. But fortunately neither of them licks me much. Probably because I don't encourage it. My 3 year old cat was very bitey when I first got her, though. She was very easily triggered. So I learned not to overstimulate her. I pet her very gently and slowly. And I keep my fingers together. That way it doesn't look like I'm reaching toward her with claws extended. And I never ever play with her with my hand. Toys are for playing. Hands are for pets. She is no longer bitey at all. Just snuggly now.
Wow cool.. I can't hold myself to not using my hand for play and pet her aggressively. You know, the feeling of "OMG she is so cute I want to pinch her cheeks, rub her belly, etc" 😭 but yeah she becomes more bity when it comes to play time with me
@@somebody3847 I've never done that with any of my cats. I don't feel that kind of urge to "pinch her cheeks and rub her belly". I naturally want to be gentle with mine. Partly because I would hate for someone to treat me that way. I would lash out too if someone did. So, I don't do that to my cats. But I also worked in the veterinary field for years, including when I first got cats. I was taught very early on that if you play with them with your hands you are teaching them to bite. I also learned at that time that cat or dog teeth on a person is not okay. Especially in the veterinary field. We were taught how to avoid being bitten instead. And part of that was to not antagonize them like that with our hands. When I want to play with mine, I use a toy. And if I need to physically love on them, I pet them gently, hug them if that doesn't bother them, and all of mine learn to like kisses. But none of mine learned to wrestle with my hands because I never did that with them.
My best friend “Roy” lost his mama just after birth. His mama left her litter outside a doctors office and I got him at 4 weeks old. Roy and I would battle. He would try to eat my $140.00 sandals. I don’t think he wanted to eat the sandals, he just wanted the attention. I could not play with him enough. Every time Roy started licking me, I would lick him back and he did not like that. Roy grew into an enormous cat that was very clingy. He cried whenever I left for work. He died of cancer at 12. My wife and I cried for weeks after he left us. He was a big part of our life.
@@dhouse609 I truly empathize with your experience. I’m 69. No kids. Many many cats. Made all the cat mistakes. We are such arrogant people to suppose a little frightened animal is supposed to behave in a certain way. And have the only human emotions of sympathy, empathy, gratitude as we humans do. I finally learned after 50 years of cat/dog/pet ownership, that the expectations we place on our pets simply does not exist. Especially cats. You cannot love a cat until it loves you. But, oh, you can love a cat to death. I am so regretful I just didn’t know enough. If you have human children, you accept that you must Accept any fault, any bad behavior, (see cute Prince Louis). Well, our pet cats are the same. They don’t, as Prince Louis, see they are being obnoxious. He was just being a normal 4 year old. NOTHING MORE. If you don’t want to take the time accept cat behavior as normal and acceptable, then don’t accept one into your life
@@dhouse609 What a sweet story! Your Roy reminds me of another cat of mine I had named Puffkins. I rescued Puffkins from falling down a cliff and almost falling in a river. He was mewing for help and there was no mama around. So I scampered down the cliff to save him. With no mama and nowhere safe to put him I brought him home. He was about 11 days old. I bottle fed that baby and spoiled him rotten. He grew to be very large, too. And he was extremely mischievous and high energy and clingy. I still remember his tiny warm body covered in kitten velvet and vibrating with his happy purr. Rescuing and raising him was one of the best experiences of my life. I can understand your bond with your sweet Roy. We are fortunate to have had them in our life. 🐈
The other thing I've noted with my cats (I've had them around for 50 years now... gads...) is part of the common "biting" behavior is focused on our nails. If you watch a cat grooming themselves, the reason for this becomes immediately apparent - they bite their own claws to strip off older "claw sheaths", the outer layer of keratin/horn that falls apart as the claws grow from the inside out. From your cat's perspective, your nails are claws - and keeping the claws fresh and sharp is important. So they're "helping" you by trying to pull your outer "sheaths" (that we don't actually have) off. It's just social grooming behavior. Congratulations - you're now a cat. In your cat's mind, anyway. 🙂
Thank you!!! That's very interesting!!! However, I must have microscopic mites or something because my cat goes for the flesh and blood!!! Once, (he's at my mom's), I hadn't seen him, in awhile, and excited to see him, reached my hand into his little hut 😭😩. I got him out of his little house, all right!!!! That's what I hate most about having pets: the loss. I've had two kitties since junior year of high school. They've been outdoor cats almost all their lives, but I spent a lot of time with them as kittens and still do outside when they're around. They're so very sweet, but they're 15. Every time one's gone, I worry. Our sweet boy just had a bad eye infection over the summer. The third eyelid was up and everything, and the vet was afraid it was cancer. Fortunately, he beat the odds and the antibiotic worked within a day, he's just fine. Those cats have been with me so long, I dread the day one gets sick for real, or dies outside. We had a Persian cat get ripped open by a wild animal when I was a child, she wasn't even an outside kitty really, but it just happened shortly after we moved to a new house. Our dog hurt another sweet kitty when I was a bit older, and we had to put him down. That was sad, as he'd jump on my bed at night sometimes, and he loved to hide places and it was fun to try and find the little guy. It doesn't matter if you've had a pet six months or 15 years, losing them is hard, but I'm sure Lydian is waiting for you, and watching over you in the meantime 😀
I'm so sorry for your loss. My son rescued 3 kittens from a cardboard box in a car park. The vet aged them at 3 weeks. I had to pipette feed them and I didn't know whether they would survive. They did. There was 2 boys and 1 girl. Buddha had a stroke and died a few months ago. His brother sudi and sister autumn are still going strong. They are 15 now and I know we probably don't have long so every minute counts now. They are beautiful bodhisattva who have taught me a lot over the years. I believe they've been reborn and sent to someone that really needs them. Don't cry for them, imagine them snuggling into somebody chi
I picked up a lonely street cat that was completely starved. She was 1,4 kg for an adult cat. She chose me, walked towards me. Well, now she owns me. We sleep together in my bed and she is holding my arm with front paws. I am new in this cat thing, thank you for your videos. The first night she was with me I spend the night watching videos about feeding.
I’d never stop mine. Lol. I find it endearing. I did have a cat for 21 years and she always did the kitten “suckle” thing. So cute. Gotta love a cat for being a cat.
When I play rough with my cat he would first gently bite me and then he would realize that he's biting me so he would play it off as licking instead. He's so adorable.
We had a cat that did exactly the same! She always wanted to compensate her bite and say "sorry for biting too hard - I still love you" with her lick. :)
Love all the cat advice....we were always dog people ...then we met our rescue cat George...he is nearly 2 now ...he came to us as a kitten ...he does all the things you mention lol...he enjoys hos pram walks ...leash walks and he has a hammock in his secure garden area with viewing platforms...we love our George...
I've always wondered why my cats would be all cute and lovey-dovey, cuddling and grooming each other, and then BAM- biting and smacking each other. it totally makes sense that one might get annoyed at the other for over grooming. I definitely have to tell them to stop licking me sometimes, so I don't know why I never thought they'd feel the same.
actually ), there is one more theory about cats why...its a smooth setting of the hierarchy between them , like "who is the boss here" as mom did it, only she was allowed to...and now they try to patronise each other, when eventually nobody wants to give up this boss-role, comes - BAM-bitting)
I love it when my cats lick or bite me 😂 Their tongue doesn't bother me and the dopamine that releases from me just looking at my cat cancels out the bite pain 😂😂😂
Same. I rescued my cat from being attacked when she was just 4 weeks old. We have such a strong bond and I’m the only human she relaxes near. I just taught her control when she plays or grooms so I rarely ever get injuries or even feel pain. She knows when she’s gone too far if I make a little noise and stops. It is such an important behaviour for cats it would seem cruel to deprive her of showing her affection the best way she knows how.
Something I have always done when it gets too much is a quick forceful exhale through your nose in combination with a light backhand flop to your bed or couch wherever its happening. Its a cats natural way of saying, "Hey your starting to upset me" without making them feel scared or feeling like they are being shunned or disciplined.
I don't mind cats licking me, but when my cats bite me I usually transition to play fighting mode. "You dare?!!!" Then, after a bit of friendly roughhousing, there usually isn't any more biting. And over time, repeating this tactic for maybe a month or so, the cat will still lick me but not bite. And if they want to roughhouse, they know how to start that. Of course, this depends greatly on how smart the cat is. But I think I've been fortunate in that respect.
Yup, that’s the deal with me too, he’ll do the “bear trap” with tum tums and I’ll go in with the foot and once it’s biting time (more like gentle nip tho), that’s a automatic grapple and tummy attack time for me lol Imagine if wasn’t a game to him he’d stop doing it every day xD
That reminds me of how my two cats interact. They'll groom each other for a few minutes, but when one of them has had too much, they suddenly stand up and become "big". Usually it results in a playfight, but sometimes it results in a retreat. Occasionally it results in a real fight and I have to intervene.
I’ve rough houses with my girl since she was a kitten. I have a special hoodie and she knows that when I put it on its play time. She nips and kicks with hind feet all the while happily purring.
My cat was found in the road and was a single cat rescue so she never understood her bites were HARD until she had her own kittens. Now she does little nibbles I love it!! They've made her an all around nicer cat she used to be so so sooo mean. She even sits on my lap now and purrs sometimes.
I actually feel validated knowing about the lotion thing! I suffer from eczema on my hands, arms and face and I get people asking why I don't use lotion for it. I explain I don't want it to get on my cats and they think I'm insane! Thank you!
I have eczema too, and psoriasis, and try to use only super natural products on my skin. I use shea oil instead of lotion in the Summertime, and it really helps my skin and has never harmed the dogs or cats who like to lick me. Jojoba oil might be better for the face, but using just 1 or 2 ingredients on the skin has got to be healthier if accidentally licked than a lotion with a whole huge list of ingredients.
I put on my eczema steroid cream and then put fingerless gloves over them, mostly so I don’t scratch my hands, but gloves are a great way to cover your hands if you’re worried about your cat licking it! Please still take care of yourself, it’s great to be considerate of your cats but eczema is no fun and you also deserve relief from the pain and discomfort
@@high-bi-password It's smarter to use none toxic sources of eczema relief when you have a cat because if they lick you at all they will lick off skin cells full of toxic cream or lotion. There are a lot of safe options out there, maybe asking a Nature-path would be smart for any cat owner :)
I just adopted a tuxedo cat. I had put down my tabby cat a few years ago at age 17 after an illness. I am finding out how different the two breeds are! My tabby was so close to me that she simply cuddled all day long! My tuxedo absolutely loves me too, but she has me in stitches with her play antics! She will chase the dog, and my Bichon will chase her….they then touch noses, and love on each other. Luna the tuxedo follows me everywhere! I am loved by the new cat but it is just different than the tabby! The tuxedo isn’t content to just sleep, and cuddle she grabs my feet…wants me constantly petting her! I am learning that all cats are different, but so cute and loving no matter what the breed!
They definitely have personalities. I had orange males only, initially, then ended up with single females. All rescue kitties from the humane society. 🥰🥰🥰
@My sister’s email I had to laugh about your tuxedo cat watching your mother in law shower because my Luna does the same thing! When she hears me start my bath she will jump on the tub! Not sure why, but it is amusing!
I have two tuxedos! Mama and her son, love them and they always want love❤they were both born blind but it doesnt let it stop them from getting around and being playful
He didn't mention play. Anyone watching kittens knows that they play wrestle, bite, and rake with with each other all the time. Not hard (especially if you have fur), but hard enough to scratch human skin. This instinct helps them to learn how to fight and defend themselves. When a trusted person pets a cat in a playful mood it can often trigger a grab and bite, especially if you pet their belly which triggers their defense-play instinct the same way tickling a child does.
@@cynthiabiel7714 True. It's important to show your cat the line between play and hurt. Me and my cat play rough sometimes but I have tought her to not go too far and if she forgets herself I remind her with a disapproving noice/hiss and I stop playing. Of course it works like that the other way as well. When she's had enough she tells me and I stop playing aswell. Communication.
Probably just because older cats don't do that so much. Kittens will very easily go from nicely being pet to suddenly wanting to play, but older cats will be very playfighty right off the bat, instead of doing it all of a sudden. So that's a different kind of "bitiness" than this.
He didn’t mention it bc in reality you’re not supposed to do it bc as they get older , their bite is harder/ sharper even if they don’t mean to hurt you
Having a cat is like raising a permanent two year old child. I've experienced both male and female feline companionship. My current bean is able to understand multiple languages and he loves learning new things. I had to baby proof my apartment for him because he gets into everything. He's very curious. I was able to teach him to set and to not put his nose into food and water. Now he sets on the side and watches and he asks if he can sniff things. He also made a routine with me where I have to kiss him if he asks me for a kiss. I don't know how he learned to kiss he kissed me the first time we met and he doesn't want to stop. 🤷❤️ He treats me like I am his cat mom. My other cat Sassy didn't treat me like that. She treated me like I was her friend and caregiver. I don't know if it's because Ginger Beans is male. He also is very social, he loves people hugging him and laying in their laps. He has one favorite person, my best friend and neighbor. Ginger Beans cry's if he doesn't get to hug him and kiss him while he visits us. Everyone says it's like Ginger Beans is a cute chubby furry child with rabbit feet. LoL
"Having a cat is like raising a permanent two year old child" - My wife made that observation to me many years ago, and I think it was one of the most profound comments about cat behavior I'd ever heard. 🙂
Thank you so much for your biting advice. We just adopted a 8-9 month pair of bonded sisters that are active biters. We have only had them for a week and have just started picking them up (although grateful for foster parents, I am sure they where never brushed and rarely picked up). So I feel like you have solved our problem! And it’s more apt for them to get used to us picking them up!! Yea win win!
I just got my first kitten yesterday and he's been licking and nibbling on my fingers and toes practically all the time! I'm glad he's warming up to me so quickly!!
That close up of their tongue makes them look more vicious than some snakes!😆 My cat Lola is a licker and sometimes I get a nip on my wrist, I just tell her "no bites" and she stops. Her brother Loki isn't a licker or nipper at all, he's a rubber, rubs on legs like crazy! ❤️
I have a cat that acts like my dog. As a kitten he watched my dog give me "kisses" when i got home everyday. Now my cat does the same. And he's a "in my face constantly" cat. It's not like he's grooming. He literally just walks up and gives me "kisses" like a dog. I think He's figured out he gets way more attention being constantly in my face. He's always with me at home. I play with him more that the dog! Feathers on a string. Tossing a mouse toy around. Trying to burn his extra energy off. He even plays "fetch" he's learned from watching me and the dog. I think he's a little dog in a cat costume. 😂 Gosh. I love my cat! ❤ Great video Jackson. I take all your advice to heart to keep my cats having a healthy happy life. Thank you.
You’re exactly right Cat Daddy! I stopped over petting, over stimulating my adopted KiKi & no more aggressive biting. Just like magic- all aggressive behaviors stopped. Thank you so much. It was all my fault. 😻
For me, it’s a sign of trust and affection! The “Sandpaper “ kisses, as I call them, are a sign to me that my kitty trusts me and it is just a sign of love and affection. My kitty will often make these sweet little trills whilst doing it. I never shy away from it and for me it is a sign of a healthy relationship! Every cat is different and Carry’s with them a different way of communicating! The tabby I have is the most trusting and loving cat. When new people come Into the home he runs up to them instead of running and hiding. That’s my kind of kitty. Trusting, Warm, and kind!
New cat lady here! Thank you so much for your answers! I’m turning 40 this year and I think instead of dogs this decade, I’m going cats! My last dog is 14 and I don’t think I can do anymore losses after 6. Got a kitten Richard (lion heart) but haven’t quite figured him out! You’ve been so helpful! Thank you❤
@@FriedSheep69 . Owning cats has it's rough patches too ... Such as ripping up your blinds or tearing down the curtains (by climbing), knocking cereal boxes off the fridge, scratching furniture even though you've bought scratch pads, etc. Using you as a pin cushion by using your lap or head as a launch pad, knocking things off shelves or countertops to the floor, etc etc. I Love my feline fur babies and have had to "catproof" my home because They're the Boss!! I even finally figured how to nestle my WiFi box in between heavy books on the bookshelf since they knocked it down too many times! Everything is theirs to have and to destroy. lol When they're older they'll settle.down... I pray.
Out of the five cats I’ve fathered, my sphynx was a licking machine. He also had the roughest tongue out of all of them. It was like sandpaper and would leave marks; it was so painful. But I allowed it for a short time because I loved him and he seemed to really enjoy our time together. I miss him 😕
My sphynx is worst for it too, tip of my nose and in between my brows are her favourite spots…..can only stand it for a few seconds but she would go all day if I didn’t stop her😹
Hand-weaned my rescue boy at ~4wks, he's 6yrs now, and he is CONSTANTLY licking and nibbling at me. There's zero malice in his lil bites, I learned ages ago that he's just telling me to stay put!
I found my baby girl when she was roughly a month old tops, under a dumpster at work. She immediately became attached and hasn't stopped. Love her more than myself. Every morning she lays in my lap and locks my forearm nearly raw. I got lucky w her. Such a well behaved little lady. Almost 2 yrs old now and she still has those kitten behaviors. 😸
Like some of the others, I also used the "ouch!" and retreat method to stop my Koda-cat from biting me. It wasn't a conscious thing, but it worked. Now, we both try to not let it reach that point (she starts bapping at my hand just before the bite stage as a warning), but if there's a miss, and she bites... after I've done the "ouch" and pull my hand away, she'll occasionally reach out and give my hand a quick lick or two before going on to do other things. Sort of an "Oops, sorry about that" gesture. Cats can also be pretty good with nuances as well. My husband's cat Batsy quickly learned that we had no problems with her kneading (smergling?) while we were wearing heavier fabrics like denim, but would yelp and gently remove her if she tried when we were wearing lighter weight clothes like, thin pajamas and the like. In a very short period of time, she picked up the habit of making a very light "test probe" as soon as she got into a lap. Initially, we helped with verbal cues: "It's okay" or "not now" with different tones of voice, but it didn't take her long to be able to assess whether the lap in question was wearing kneading fabric, or "just sitting for the attention" fabric. I miss her, but we did have a good fifteen years with her.
I call my cat Autumn's lick-to-bite "aggressively affectionate". She does a lot of grooming and biting towards myself and my other cat Lilac. She's always very gentle with me but VERY rough with Lilac, who absolutely loves the affection and couldn't care less if Autumn smothered her to death lmao.
My cat Kiki does this with me all the time. We’ve had her for over 10 years, and has done this with me since day one. She ONLY does this with me and my parents keep telling me they’re jealous lol. It was one of those bonds that just seemed to be right there from the start. She’s been by my side ever since. She’s like 14 now and is sassy af
I took care of someone else’s cat for a short while twice. The second time the cat was at my place, he liked to lay on my lap and kept licking the hoodie i was wearing all the time till the part he’s licking was completely wet, and gradually he fell asleep on my lap. The first time he was here he did not show that much affection to me. The second time, I was busy and didn’t pay much attention to him. But he then came to me voluntarily 😅
When I first met my boyfriend's cat he would nibble me so hard I thought he was actually trying to bite me. Turns out he just used to be a little garbage stray boy and didn't know any better. Thankfully he has learned to be much more gentle and now his love bites actually feel like love bites.
I have a cat who’s turning 20 this year and she’s always given love bites whenever you pet her. She also loves to lick. I’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old and she’s always been this way lol. I gave up trying to stop her after like 5 years.
My kitten is so adorable, he stalks my ankles and as I walk past, dives in with softpaws and super-gentle bites then dashes off. Or if I spot him as he approaches, he crabs and hops a few times :D
Thank you Jackson! This was super helpful, since I have a 9 mo foster kitten who is, what I call, a love shark! She starts by walking back and forth across my lap purring loudly, while I pet her, then starts licking me followed by the love bites! I worry about her love biting her future furever family, so this is super helpful!
Interesting question! I'm definitely tuning in. In my slice of the world it only happens during grooming. I suspect the nibbles/bites have to do with overstimulation and the licks that directly follow are to say, "Hey, it's not personal. I still like the attention. Just a little less from the areas that make me uncomfortable and I'll be back to purring in no time."
On second thought, that's not quite what JG was saying. Apparently, some cats lick, get too stimulated(?!) then begin biting. I'm here for it though; happy to learn whatever he presents. 😻
@@hannahreynolds7611 they are not foreign alien combatants. Your cat wants your love no matter what. To learn and accept the subtle nuanced cat gestures will reward you immensely. Just let go. Let them go. I’ve owned cats for over 50 years. THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT. if you want a slobbering, anxious, wining attention seeking pet, get a dog. If you want a pet relationship with loving mutual feelings, unconditional acceptance, RESPECT, ACCEPTABLE, NO EXPECTATIONS type of actions, GET A CAT. Simple.
Hi Jackson, super video. I foster bottle-babies and kittens, and each person in our fam has a personal cat that has a close bond to the person. As a part of what I do as a foster, I try to adapt my kittens to any person for the greatest future home relationship and success. I do ENCOURAGE the licking/cuddling so that my babies might possibly create a strong bond with a new mom or dad. I also take them to nursing home therapy to have the elder people show my kitties what is tolerated. I use two methods to mitigate over-liking, one is I place the four feet down on the floor (stand them up) when they go too far. The other is I take a kneading blanket and substitute it in for the human. Both these things work great. Now if I could just get my "baby-cat" to tolerate tummy rubs before she holds my hand in her teeth.... ("Baby-cat" is a 3 year old that I am bonded with.)
I’m watching this right now specifically because one of my cats just woke me up by giving me a kitty pedicure… licking the bottom of my foot until I woke up. She loves licking feet. And sometimes if I try to move my foot, she’ll pin it with both paws (claws out), nip me, then go back to licking. I always assumed that was her saying “stop moving” the way a cat might say to a kitten.
I have a male orange tabby (really more like the toner ran out and it's kind of tan). He was from ferals in the backyard. He was friendly as a very small kitten rubbing around my feet, talking up a storm, etc. He is 2 now and still is all about my feet. Follows me everywhere...from a dead sleep to "Oh I heard you were going somewhere, where are you?" He likes to lay on my chest facing me or across it and rub around my neck and face. I have to pay attention when he lays on my chest and starts sniffing my face etc. because he will seem so nice and lovey and then he will try a little nip of my nose, cheek etc. I will look at him and watch and if I see his mouth start to open for a nip, I say, "NO BITING". Not in a loud or angry voice but in a different tone from the "glad to see you" voice. I really need him to stop the nip/bite. I know it's not meant to hurt, but mama had fur and I don't. I feel it. I have started to just move him away from me but part of me thinks that's mean and he might think I don't love him. I know that is silly. Sorry for being so long-winded.
I gotta say the no biting in just a slightly different voice worked wonders for my old cat, it took a little time but from when she was 5 until the end (15) it worked wonders- she would release the bite and go back to just grooming
If I say "ouch" or "bite nice" my cats change the way they're biting. Only one of mine can get really over stimulated and will latch on to your hand aggressively. She doesn't break skin unless you try to move too quick. I ask her for my hand back and distract her with the other hand to "escape". I know she doesn't mean t hurt me. It's part of her personality.
Thank you for the Tootsie Pop commercial! Loved it! On the licking too much, I just give the cat an "Aaaa Aaaa" vocalization and they know that means stop whatever it is they are doing. No one gets too ruffled, they just understand they need to go do something else. Also good for getting them off the coffee table so I can see the TV too!
Thank you! Will try that with my old darling. ( he was 15 when i got him, ...we negotiate, I taught him to come when I whistle, he taught me his " i'm hungry" meow. :)
@@wombat.6652 Using a particular vocalisation sound like "ah ah" is also better than using a word like "no", because words are often used in multiple contexts and that can be confusing to your cat. But if you regularly break the pattern with a gentle "uh uh", particularly if you reinforce it like JG says with gently physically interrupting it, they will associate the sound with "stop" or "change to something else".
@@wombat.6652 The hardest part is being patient, as it can take time for your darling to build the association. But it's all worth it in the end. :) Good luck! 🖤
I have learned so much about my 4 cats, in this video. Pretty my cats own the house and they just let me live here. 😂 I can't even begin to tell you what my cats have done for me and the peace they bring to my life. 🥰
My late cat was a huge licker. She’d lick my arms until the skin was raw! I always found it incredibly cute because she’d always have this lovey-dovey expression while doing it. I rarely let her lick me enough where it injured me though, i’d just shoo her away before it’d get to that point. Didn’t always work but you know 😂 I miss her so much everyday. 💔 Now my new kitty is a big biter 😭😂
My vet recommended returning the gesture with a dedicated toothbrush (because it's small enough that it feels like another cat's tongue). It helps prevent them from overgrooming both themselves and you while still sharing the social behavior. It's really helpful with my older shorthair who is prone to overgrooming due to boredom during the winter (he's picky about acceptable weather to use the catio and I don't always catch it in time to boil him more to compensate).
Licking: "Your reward!" (Also a thanks for the gravy you didn't wash off!) Biting: "You've got to learn somehow!" (And I've got better things to do than remind you that I expect food in a timely manner!) Oh, maybe this was just my cats!
Thank you so much for giving the warning about cosmetica on our skin! Not only the areas of your skin should be lotion-free, also please wait until things like hand lotions are absorbed by your skin BEFORE petting your cat 🐈⬛🐈(or any other animal) - since it will stick in their fur, which of course will be licked by your pet! I know, it's hard sometimes to wait. My cats are confused and even tendenziell to look at me hurt when I sit down for manicure or lay in bed with freshly lotioned hands without instantly petting them 🥺 But I know it's in their best health interest to wait before I touch them again 🙃
As someone on the Spectrum I totally get the overstimulation part, as even the normal touch of a t-shirt on my body can get overstimulating sometimes. We also have a cat I like to joke is an 'autistic kitty' because they're very particular and get overstimulated by touch very easily, and we can tell because they move a particular way and vocalize a certain way when they start to get to that 'STOP' point.
Thanks for sharing! I have an autistic nephew. He's very smart but has a hard time with overstimulated emotions if he's upset. My sister got him into equine therapy and I think it's helping. As a family they are going to group therapy, including his sister. I think these things are helping. Horses. Animals are so healing!😍
Such a great story teller. I love the illustrations: the wise old Tootsie Pop owl, Linus and his blanket... That really helps with understanding a concept.
Thank you so much for explaining this. My fluffy little void is a very affectionate thing, she loves to follow me around and be next to me. However we do have very long cuddle sessions that do become the lick-to-bite, and now I know why. When the bite happens, I tend to firmly state "no" and just move back from her until she settles, at which point she will come right back to apology head bonks and a few more licks. I do hope this is the right thing to do!
Had 1 that all I had to do was pull away and say ouch. He hardly ever repeated the nip or claw from the time he was a baby. He knew he could play rougher with his dad and did. Still miss him like the day he left
BITE QUESTION I adopted a (maybe) 1½yr old. She bites my hand and then immediately moves my hand to her molars....and chews down hard. 2nd She also gets the need to bite my Achilles or Toe real hard...or Bear hugs my feet (with or without shoes) with claws to grip and will make readjusting 'claw biscuits'. My sneakers have snags all over.
My cat, Tiger, who is on the other side now, used to lick me sometimes with a rough tongue but at other times with a soft, gentle tongue. The soft tongue was so gentle and sweet, as if she knew to be careful with me. When she would use her papillae, I would tell her "No use soft tongue!" You didn't mention it, Jackson, but I think they are capable of doing it softly too.
My friend's cat as a kitten was obsessed with licking the face of anyone trying to sleep. I was cat sitting, and missed the cats I grew up with, so I didn't want to kick the kitten out of the bedroom. Instead, I got a wash cloth, and put that over my face, and slept like that. 😂 It worked! (And he did outgrow it eventually.)
My cats do this occasionally but it's usually very gentle and sweet. Even if they bite, it's like Jackson said, more like they're holding me than biting to attack. I think it's super cute lol
Sometimes it is sweet, but 2 of my three cats (they're brother and sister) bite the back of my leg when I'm standing in the kitchen either because they want my attention or to be fed. My other cat (not related) bites my hand when she wants petted.
I am also looking forward to this video. I adopted my cat 4 months ago. He was a stray. He’s 1 year and 4 months roughly. And sometimes he will just be sitting with me. Or loudly meowing at me and the take my arm and bite me and bunny kick my arm. He doesn’t bite hard enough to break the skin. He’s usually pretty gentle. I try to give him a kicker toy instead but he still goes for my arm. And know when he is going to do it because he gets like a hyper look and a specific meow. Sometimes he just wants to play. So I play with him of course.
@@screeaveDestination is a female cat not a good idea with a male cat? My brother has a male and female cat, got the male first and then female a year later and they are the best of friends.
@@chelski6555 I had a girl with 9 months and got a month ago a boy with 8 months. The first 3 weeks were difficult because he was very curious and my cat didn't like him at first sight, but now they are friends and chase each other or chill on the couch 😊
Thank you Jackson, I have a black male cat named Jaxon, who loves to lick and bite as you mentioned in your video. He is beautiful and a big boy, kinda in the category of a gentle giant, when my girlfriend passed she had asked me to take over his care. I love him, he is so disciplined and just a great companion. I had thought of sending you a question for a solution, when he gets in the mood to give me a licking/biting session, I would ask him, why are you biting me and gently tell him that hurts. I was concerned about it, but I always handled him gently. I also have a “female orange tabby”, Logan, who is a pistol. After listening to one of your educational sessions about tabby’s, especially females, I fully understood the ‘why’s’ of her actions. She actually is a pistol with Jaxon as well. I am amazed, how relentless she is until I comply. It’s hilarious, how your educational videos really assist with love to their needs. When I learned about your baby and the loss, I fully felt your pain. Like you, I could write a book about my past history of loss regarding my babies. Somehow we go forward with little hole in our heart, but learn to accept in time. Thank you from Wichita, Ks. ❤🐈⬛🐈 Sherry, Jaxon and Logan.
Usually the sweet leg rubs & face paw pats ( which come with softer little bites) means "Get up,play with me, or "You are forgetting Dinner time my human!". I dont use hand cream due to I get lots of licking on my hands, loveit🥰
My cat does the lick-to-bite but am pretty sure she has no bite inhibition because she bites to draw blood every time she bites. She came from a pretty terrible background and was taken from mum too early, so I believe that is the issue. She also has no idea she has claws/paws and communicates mostly with her teeth, I believe from being raised mostly around dogs. She's easily overstimulated so we usually communicate through talking to each-other by making prrrrd noises. She really loves that and rolls on her back. XD
Adore my cats, loving their individual personalities, as well. This video confirmed what I thought was so. From early on, I intentionally gently rubbed their bellies also. They still purrrrr like crazy when I do so. TYVM for the video,
Thank you so much for your videos! I really don't know much about cats, I've never had one, and we've recently gained a new kitten family member. She's absolutely adorable and super super affectionate, always snuggling everyone in the house, and licking. As she gets more confident and plays with us lots it's also turned to biting, never ever in a hard way, always gentle, but she's done silly things like bite my chin suddenly and made me jump! My instinct has been to put her down to stop the behaviour, and I feel reassured it's the right course of action, and that nothing is seriously wrong. I was a bit worried we'd have a mean and bitey cat when she grows up! Now, if I could solve the 3am pounce on the face wake up calls, that'd be great! 😂
It's nice to meet you, friend. Thank you so much for sharing all of this about cats. It is very important for people to understand their kitties and I think that your video really helps to accomplish that. It was a very fun video and educational at the same time. :) Have a wonderful day!
My kitten will attack my feet when I try to walk. However, she absolutely loves me and tries her best to cheer me up when I'm crying or if she knows she hurt me. My kitten looks a lot like the first black kitten (even with the mask look around her eyes). My cat always sleeps near me. She does not like being alone. I have a comfy area of blankets on my bed for her but she can sleep anywhere on my bed.
I brought home my rescue cat about a month ago. She comes up to me and tries to rub her face on me to initiate pats but she almost always immediately then bites me. It's especially bad in the mornings so I sleep hiding my hands under the blankets but she literally tries to "dig" me out from my blanket pile. She's too smart, I'm gonna try buying her a food puzzle today (she hasn't used any of my DIY ones) and hopefully that stops her opening my draws. Just when I feel like I'm getting overwhelmed by her she lies on my chest and purrs without biting me and lets me pat her. She's a master manipluator. Also her name is Donut.
I adopted a cat two weeks ago and also sleep hiding my hands under the blanket! I've already been to my doctor for the bites and am on two antibiotics. When not biting me, the cat is perfect, though. I'm going to try getting him a small stuffed toy as someone suggested.
All of my 4 female cats are completely obsessed with the soft throw blankets. I literally have them everywhere for them. They do their biscuit making or whatever it is. You have a lot of people with a lot of comments and questions. I don't follow that many people. But most people I watch do not have this many comments to try to get back to ♡
When I left my ex, I left behind her cat that had bonded to me. A month later she called and said, 'come get your cat, I haven't had a nights rest since you left'. I love that cat. She loves me.
Best consolation prize for a failed relationship EVER!
With my cat, she'll meow every time I leave my house. Even if it's just for a quick outing. She'll meow and cry. When I'm back she'll nuzzle me and greet me. She's such a sweet little cat
Haha! The cat took revenge on her for driving you out of the house.
I’m glad you got the cat!
When my ex and I split due to her being unfaithful my cat pissed all over her clothes she was picking up. 🤣
RIP Tig.

my gorgeous Tiger, a country rescue who was uncared for & would regularly 11km to the local Chicken Treat for food & company, so I had to learn VERY quickly that I just had to let her climb on things, as she could no longer go outside & run free now living a the city & about 800 meters away from a busy hwy. Anyhoo.. she will often sleep by my head on nights when I have seizures in my sleep , keeping watch over me & bites me to wake me if they get too protracted.
I have a cat that does that. He's a licker. He kisses my lips when I say. "Give me a kiss Horatio." Super sweet.

My siamese used to give me love bites (bite and head shake). I started saying "Ow!" and ignored her when she did that until she figured out I don't like it. Then she started giving me kisses instead so I told her thank you and pet her every time so now I get kisses instead of bites 🥰
And now she knows the word "kisses" 😂
This fills me with hope for mine who does the same. And she goes for the most tender skin of my inner arm too. (And I think she's got a little siamese in her too.)
I should say "Ow!" too. I don't really mind the love bites, but I'm getting confused in the communication, if it's a "love bite" or a "stop bothering me" warning. So I generally already pause the petting. Maybe the "Ow!" could clue her into the cause of the break, so that she stops it.
I hope mine learns to do that. I never give him attention when he does it, but we're 6 months in and it's his favorite way to communicate.
I say ow and mine stops the biting

Over time we've both figured out what my limit is before she starts hurting me, so now she rarely goes too far.
same! when it comes to any biting, i just make an "aach/aak" noise. Doesn't have to be loud and my boy stops biting lol
my cat is the same, when I make "ouch" noise, she stops, but she rarely goes that far nowadays
Thanks for the info 😭 my kitty will bite me HARD while I'm petting/cuddling with him or he jumps up at me (pounces) while I'm passing by & bite me😠 but too hard👎... I found my kitten at 3 weeks old. She was all alone and crying. I took her in and she's adjusted well so far. I fell in love with my kitten instantly. I'm going through the licking and biting stage now. I named her Sabrina and she's thriving.
How is she now?
Same! My ginger Mr. Weasley was sick and dying and ended up on my doorstep. He's my best friend. ❤❤❤
Sabrina is a great name❤ bless both of you 😊
How is she now?
Love the "head bonk" my cat gives me. Peak of affection also causes desire to mark with the scent. Being cat's property is a complement. It's possessive and similar to human love. And speaking of toxic things - make sure you clean your floors with safe chemicals, because the cat will pick them up, lick itself and consume what's on the floor. Be conscious of where the cat spends its time and what might get on its fur. Keep the environment safe and clean.
Love that you mention the importance of environment safety. Enjoy every moment with her or him. So precious.😻
I bought a steam mop because of my cats! I now use little-to-no cleaner on the tile, wood and vinyl floors at home, mostly water.
I've had my boy since he was a baby and he's unfazed with me just getting all up in his face bc I've done it since he was babu, he even usually meets me in the middle by bonking me first lol
My cat Vida, just runs and, head butts me.. while Purring.. she just became a year old..
A cat laying in your lap, purring, and bathing is like hypnotic meditation for me. A can’t think of a more comforting, relaxing thing in the world, including when they decide to give you a bath too.
Agreed!! 💙💙💙💙
Straight facts its bliss ❤❤
Well, whenever it has happened to me is when i am petting them, so i always interpreted as them thanking me.😁
Imagine a cat sleeping next to you or between your legs on your bed every night or greeting you at the door every time you come back home.
My girl cat is always taking baths on my lap and it’s definitely a ‘do not disturb’ situation
A dog is like I love you , you own me . A cat is like I love you , I own you .
To the dog, you´re the master. To the cat, you´re the servant. 🙂
People teach dogs tricks. Cats treat people tricks.
no dog ever thinks you "own" them; dogs think of their human(s) as their family/social group/pack and ideally also as their leader they can rely and lean on so they can chill while knowing they don't need to take care of anything. but i guess that isn't as catchy as the tired old, lame, needless "dogs vs cats" bs.
When my cat licks me, I tell myself he's tenderizing me 😂

Haha! I wondered if others thought of it that way!

One of my premature twins who had a rough start to life LOVED cats. I got her a black kitten when she was still a baby, who is now a full grown man cat 🤣 He comforts her , sleeps with her, Is so very very protective of her , follows her everywhere ❤️ It's the most beautiful relationship I've seen between two 6 year olds 🤣😍

I adopted my cat, Buffy, behind my parents backs right after turning 18, and it was the best decision I ever made. She's adorable, vocal, and the softest and cuddliest cat I've ever met.
Life pro tip: This works with human/human interaction as well.
Tried this one, he still bites hard and draws blood. It's more a frenzied biting.
Nah, it didn't work.
@@annabethsyndullacrump1424 cats are AMAZINGLY reactive to sign language. Palm up, raise your hand for "up", palm down lower your palm for "down", both palms down lower hands down for "calm".

I just adopted a small kitten 2 weeks ago. He went from hiding every day and being scared to being obsessed with me in the last two days. He is not leaving my side and can’t stop mewing. It’s like having a small child which I never had. This is my first kitten and I am learning a lot 😓 😂
my former cat molly would only lick me when i was upset or sad. i’m convinced it was her way of taking care of me. she followed my parents home shortly before i was born, so for the first 18 years of my life she was a constant companion. she followed us when we walked the dogs, brought us chipmunks and moles and birds and rats. in old age she was very frail, but till the very end she was still trying to protect and care for me. she lived a long life for an indoor outdoor cat, and sometimes it feels like she held on just long enough to see me recover from my severe depression and anxiety. it feels like she didn’t want to leave while i was still in danger, even if that danger was invisible. anyways, just wanted to share because i found your videos after adopting a traumatized rescue cat and you’ve been so helpful, but the comments of people sharing their stories of the love and companionship their cats provide always pulls at my heartstrings and reminds me of molly. i’m slowly building up trust with fonz, my new friend, and i can’t wait to have that bond with him.

I think they feel "cute aggression" at us just as we can feel it at them!
I never thought of that! Thanks for that insight.
My vet recently confirmed that I am indeed a cat. 😸
Thank you!!! That's very interesting!!! However, I must have microscopic mites or something because my cat goes for the flesh and blood!!! I’m so sorry for your loss. 💔

Make sure you get her wormed and vaccine shots. Stray cats usually have worms and need wormed. Worms can kill them in the long run.

We had a cat that did exactly the same! She always wanted to compensate her bite and say "sorry for biting too hard - I still love you" with her lick. :)

@@SureNuf Oh I'd love it 😂💜

I know they’re so cute I miss my cat
Something I have always done when it gets too much is a quick forceful exhale through your nose in combination with a light backhand flop to your bed or couch wherever its happening. Its a cats natural way of saying, "Hey your starting to upset me" without making them feel scared or feeling like they are being shunned or disciplined.
My beautiful Tigger never once ever bit me. He was perfect. I love him. RIP, my gorgeous, gentle kitty!🐈🐾🥰
Yup, that’s the deal with me too, he’ll do the “bear trap” with tum tums and I’ll go in with the foot and once it’s biting time (more like gentle nip tho), that’s a automatic grapple and tummy attack time for me lol
Imagine if wasn’t a game to him he’d stop doing it every day xD
My kitten nips me doesn't hurt and purrs at the same time. Fighting mode. Playful
Aw 🥰
Please have her neutered. There are so many unwanted kittens starving and dying.

I love tuxedo cats I have two beautiful ladies.
I also have a tuxedo named Luna!
The problem is when they get big and can hurt you or become aggressive.
I think cause that's obvious? People mostly get confused if a cat does that when they're very obviously *not* playing.
My Loki loves to lick my hands and fingers. It doesn’t hurt. It does hurt if he tries to lick my face so I usually stop him from doing that.
I just got my first kitten yesterday and he's been licking and nibbling on my fingers and toes practically all the time! I'm glad he's warming up to me so quickly!!
That close up of their tongue makes them look more vicious than some snakes!😆
My cat Lola is a licker and sometimes I get a nip on my wrist, I just tell her "no bites" and she stops.
Thank you.
#5 I knew it! Our new cat won’t stop biting us every time we touch him. I keep saying he likes the taste of human.
When new people come
Into the home he runs up to them instead of running and hiding. That’s my kind of kitty. Trusting,
Warm, and kind!
Thank you❤
Cats die at about the same rate, sorry.
Cats are easy. I have 4, all you gotta do is feed them, give them water and be their slave. Easy
Everything is theirs to have and to destroy. lol
When they're older they'll settle.down... I pray.
Losing cats is hard too. Still miss my huge 26 lb Main Coon "mutt"
We have a few who either messed up the carpet or they go in the box but it's on the floor instead😢
Out of the five cats I’ve fathered, my sphynx was a licking machine. He also had the roughest tongue out of all of them. It was like sandpaper and would leave marks; it was so painful. But I allowed it for a short time because I loved him and he seemed to really enjoy our time together. I miss him 😕
That YOU fathered? Dafuq 🤣🪦☠️

@@jasondavid9981 - You were the guardian of your five cats.
Glad I found this video! I had asked about "licking" recently. And, now I see you'd already discussed it! Thanks, Jackson!
Awe..my cat's name is Autumn.

I think it’s the deep cleaning behaviour, the nibbling that kills fleas. Cats try do to the same on our skin, that’s my theory anyway.

I love when my cat licks and softly bites me. It’s a bonding moment for us.
That’s kind of cool. It’s like having a sentient pumice stone.
That image of the cat tongue is ingrained in my mind for life 😩😖
I have a male orange tabby (really more like the toner ran out and it's kind of tan). He was from ferals in the backyard. He was friendly as a very small kitten rubbing around my feet, talking up a storm, etc. He is 2 now and still is all about my feet. Follows me everywhere...from a dead sleep to "Oh I heard you were going somewhere, where are you?"
He likes to lay on my chest facing me or across it and rub around my neck and face.
Same with my kitty. Or I say "don't bite mommy" and she'll stop.
I have 2 kittens who sometimes bite. Only worry about near my face so i gently push them back saying 'no bite'. They are learning.
Something ive always said is "dogs have owners, cats have.... stuff..."
I love all the cats ive foster and the cats ive had as pets.
@@kashiichan Thank you will try that.

I have learned so much about my 4 cats, in this video. Pretty my cats own the house and they just let me live here. 😂 I can't even begin to tell you what my cats have done for me and the peace they bring to my life. 🥰
Have had 16 cats through my life ..:.: now have 3 ragdolls there is no better love 🐾🐾❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yeah, I like it when my cat licks me. She never bites too hard or too much. It's more like a quick nibble and then she settles.
My late cat used to pull my face to hers and then groom me. My new kitty is also a big biter!!!
Do you only have one cat?
Licking: "Your reward!" (Also a thanks for the gravy you didn't wash off!)
Biting: "You've got to learn somehow!" (And I've got better things to do than remind you that I expect food in a timely manner!)
Oh, maybe this was just my cats!
My cats are confused and even tendenziell to look at me hurt when I sit down for manicure or lay in bed with freshly lotioned hands without instantly petting them 🥺
But I know it's in their best health interest to wait before I touch them again 🙃
Thank you for all the information that you give. My cat was biting me and since your video, I do not over pet him anymore and the biting has stopped.
As someone on the Spectrum I totally get the overstimulation part, as even the normal touch of a t-shirt on my body can get overstimulating sometimes. We also have a cat I like to joke is an
'autistic kitty' because they're very particular and get overstimulated by touch very easily, and we can tell because they move a particular way and vocalize a certain way when they start to get to that 'STOP' point.
lol I thought the exact same thing! Also on the spectrum and could totally identify 😄
There's actually a book called All Cats Are On The Autism Spectrum. It's not just you who thinks that way.
Damn the spectrum so cool man
I seem to recall Temple Grandin saying something to the effect of 'autistic kitty' is a redundant phrase.
BITE QUESTION
I adopted a (maybe) 1½yr old.
She bites my hand and then immediately moves my hand to her molars....and chews down hard.

She also gets the need to bite my Achilles or Toe real hard...or Bear hugs my feet (with or without shoes) with claws to grip and will make readjusting 'claw biscuits'.

Yes! Many times! They do the same thing with their kittens and other (familiar) cats. Cats like to toughen everyone up.
Thanks so much for the great advice. This is a constant issue with one of my cats and I learned that I've been doing the right thing.
Hello Elizabeth how are you doing today
My friend's cat as a kitten was obsessed with licking the face of anyone trying to sleep. I was cat sitting, and missed the cats I grew up with, so I didn't want to kick the kitten out of the bedroom. Instead, I got a wash cloth, and put that over my face, and slept like that. 😂 It worked! (And he did outgrow it eventually.)
Mines never did lol 😂 she is incessant
I am not a pet person but it is fun to watch your videos on cats.
You should get a companion for him. And please, no female cat.

My cat loves to nibble on me as she sits on my legs. She does it often and she seems so proud of herself. I know it’s just true love.
