One time I sat talking with Harry Dean on the bench outside DanTanna's he complained to me how he had ''lived my life as a bum actor''. I had to reassure him that he was an icon, a Hollywood legend, He was a really nice guy with amazing talent as an actor and musician.
He certainly was! I love & miss Harry Dean. I’m glad you were there to reassure him & got to go to his old haunt & spend time with him. I admire you. That’s really wonderful...for you, both. 😊
RIP Dean. I saw an interview many years ago on I believe Johnny Carson with Paul Newman about the making of Cool Hand Luke. They were talking about how the film makers couldn't decide on what song to use in it and I guess you were in that meeting. You got up excused yourself and came back with your guitar and played & sang Just a closer walk with thee. They were blown away and said it was perfect and asked if you could do it just like that in the film. FLY NAVY!!!
Robert Mitchum echoed similar sentiments during an interview with Dick Cavette back in the 70's. Basically saying that "...most actors think too much of themselves..All you really need to do is know your lines and hit your mark".😎
Right! I just saw that interview of Robert Mitchum yesterday. In the 1991 Hollywood Documentary of R.M., he said, “Rin Tin Tin was the greatest actor. It was a mother dog! How hard could it be?” 🤷🏻♀️😂
He may not be here with us anymore but I’m watching this video because I want to pursue an acting career and I’m here to listen to this great man’s advice
I truly believe that he thought of himself as being nobody special. From bis point of view everybody could be a film actor because no talent was needed. I think he was right. All you need to do is be like Harry Dean Stanton.
I would’ve loved to have met him & heard him sing in person! I really do love seeing his movies in which he sings! Just watched a few clips of Cool Hand Luke. I loved Lucky & hope to see all of Paris, Texas. I thought he always looked much younger than he was. 😘♥️
"...meditation is in every moment, as we speak." Oooh, that's so good. Not the usual piss weak celebrity musings I tend to hear and cringe at these days. You know damn well he's speaking earnestly and honestly about what he thinks.
one of me fav actors... that Wild At Heart scene, where Harry Dean is driving while the radio plays "baby please dont go", man, to me, that scene immortalized that song! everytime i hear it, Harry Dean cames to mind! Sadly gone, now...
This should have much more views and comments. And damn the 4 people that disliked this. I hope you're where you want to be now Harry. I'll think of you as long as I'm still in this hell.
Ry Cooder learned guitar by 6 years old. He could play slide better than anyone by 13. He went to Hollywood at 17 and the rest is history! I love Ry and Harry and all those guys. Now hit it!
Harry Dean Stanton was born in Kentucky on July 14, 1926. He was an American actor, musician, and singer In a career that spanned more than six decades. His last film was "Lucky." Harry Dean Stanton (who played the role of Lucky) did not live long enough to see the official release of the movie in USA on 29 September 2017. He died on 15 September 2017 at the age of 91.
Oh Harry. "Anybody can be an actor"? I don't think so. Well not a decent one anyway. Perhaps you thought that Harry because it came so easily and naturally to you. You were/are an understated icon. A talented multi-faceted character-actor that's become such a rarity these days. You and your gift will be sorely missed by many. All the best from Éire my friend(I feel like I know you) , thank you, and may you rest in peace Harry.
3:30 I really respect his world view on having no interest in chasing fame, but at the same time I'm kinda pissed at him for depriving us of a Harry Dean Stanton detective show directed by John Carpenter.
See, don't smoke kids until you're in your 80's. Oh yes it's definitely risky business but considering about 100 more devastating (legal) hobbies one can think of way way WAY overhyped phenomenon.

Can't believe I am hearing about his death 5 days after he left us. He was a cool guy. He will be well missed.

Very honest person, I have always liked his acting! The pin up girl shirt is really cool too!
This should have much more views and comments. And damn the 4 people that disliked this. I hope you're where you want to be now Harry. I'll think of you as long as I'm still in this hell.
To hell with today's super action heros, this was one super guy from the old school of acting. Death be not proud, Harry. R.I.P.
Ry Cooder learned guitar by 6 years old. He could play slide better than anyone by 13. He went to Hollywood at 17 and the rest is history!

Please, what is the B&W documentary being referred to? I've seen snippets, Harry and David for example.

is this taken from the documentary "Partly fiction"?
The disappearing reappearing smoke butt had me going . .
What is the documentary they are referring to?
RIP x
R.I.P.
Right!
Incredible character actor for sure. I see he had a big lump on his forehead in the interview. I wonder what happened there.
3:30 I really respect his world view on having no interest in chasing fame, but at the same time I'm kinda pissed at him for depriving us of a Harry Dean Stanton detective show directed by John Carpenter.
Brando said the same thing
If ice cube could be an actor, anyone can lol
Kentucky produces the best actors: HDS, Johnny Depp, George Clooney, and partly Tom Cruise
Its amusing how you call cloony an actor
Unique.....real.....a kind in process of extinction.....a pity.....
