For a film made in 1953, the song is flaming. I also happened to watch this short animation from the gumby/animated shorts dvd when i was a kid. Really invested by the creativity art clokey put in.
Absolutely stunning! I've always been a huge fan of Art and his work, ever since I got one of those bargain bin "classic cartoon" DVDs as a kid. To this day, I can't get over how stunning Gumbasia is (not to mention the music SLAPS)
I genuinely never knew this supposed to be a parody of Walt Disney’s fantasia of the toccata and fugue in d minor segment and that this was technically what was started the creation of Gumby
I had this on an old cartoons Disc set. I have to say, this is my favorite clay animation movie! Also, it was my favorite cartoon on the disc set. And I still love it today! I'm glad you posted this. It's awesome! Thanks for posting this cool clay animation movie. YOU ROCK! Keep up the good work! :D
Clokey was a genius, I say. I miss claymation... CGI is nice, don't get me wrong, but it's all you ever see in animation nowadays. (Especially for motion pictures.)
Sara Houck Well, as an animation-fan personally, I like every kind of animation, and try not to hate on CGI, even if it is overdone nowadays. Some CGI animations, like Pixar's shorts are quite good, and alot like the "good ol' animated shorts," I feel..
This is a nicely treasured film created by Art Clokey-the creator of Gumby. It was made in 1953 and shown in 1955. In 1956 it was used as a pilot film for. "The Gumby Show". The prints you're most likely to see are VERY faded, dusty, and ugly. But look at how much this film was cleaned up!
+Nate Cahnman My grandma has a disc that contains the cartoon. The footage is in pretty terrible quality. But you can't blame them, it was made in 1953.
@@hurricanefury439 Hi, just replying to one more of your comments for others who are interested in the song. As of now (October 2024), it can be found on iTunes and Spotify, where the latter titles it “Don-Quee-Dee.” I hope this helps anyone who is in search of it 😉
Art was truly on something different he had such a time consuming yet beautiful perspective on his process he is the manifestation of quality over quantity
@Love God & Neighbor. That's right, but it does feel like one of hose educational shorts they would air, even though it isn't really educational, ìt's just Art Clokey doing stuff with clay.
I don't know if it's due to the color itself, or the process used to recolor these (I assume this is recolored rather than some long lost perfect version that was found) But I find myself not noticing the texture as much with these vibrant colors. I love the color but between this and the faded version I actually prefer the faded one as I find the use of texture to be far more interesting than the color itself.
I’ve been trying to look for this animation for years. Now that I finally found it, I realize that the version I’ve been seeing has just been a faded color 16mm version. My life is a lie. I’m so glad I found this animation again. :)
Solid props are better than the CG we have these days, for a good reason. The practical effects offered interactivity with the actors, offering a sense of realism despite being pretend. We also miss cel cartoons too for being an art medium, and can be stored better than deleting hard drives.
as far as i'm aware, this (gumbasia) is the only place you can listen to don-que-dee by mel powel, since all other recordings were taken down. At least there's some neat visuals!
@@LordShadrach Yes, but you could have done it without losing so much. You managed to enlarge the frame beyond the screen borders, cutting off huge amounts of it, and that has nothing to do with widescreen not being available. I was uploading lots of videos back then. I think you just didn't know how to do it. There are other copies here of better quality, such as this one: ua-cam.com/video/YEdmp0CfWqk/v-deo.htmlsi=f_mU-0QU19vsXjw3 , yours is now a distraction from them, people might land on yours not knowing of the better ones. My suggestion is you should take it down. It won't be missed. No offense, you tried your best at the time.
@@outerrealmI refuse to take it down as mine is the most popular on this site. As for the cropped frames, it was how UA-cam did their formats. Nothing on my end. Also, did you even watch the video?

CarbonGaming Also, it was not made by any big studio who had a well kept film archive, so it's likely the film was just left to rot.
@@thatundergroundflavorrareo3194 This one, meanwhile, was actually struck from an original camera negative.

so the name of the song in this is Don-Que-Dee by Mel Powell
