The model S from 2018 has been my favorite car. The hatchback makes it extremely usable and I was able to easily have a family of four and a dog use this vehicle. It is so much more comfortable and appealing to me than the model 3. The only reason we sold it this year was because my wife wanted something taller because it was hard to get in and out of for her while she was pregnant. Drove over 100,000 miles only had one tire replacement and had to replace one window motor during that time.
Problem with the roadster 2.0, you need a fairly large battery pack for 600 mile range. So battery cost is likely at least 2x and you have space, the roadster was shorter than the S. So less space for batteries. Now they could do like they did for CyberTruck and make usable range about 60% of promised range. Then you have all those free Roadsters they have to make. They would be negative for years with the production.
I had free charging on my 1st model S and rarely used it due to inconvenience. I’ve got free charging on a MB EQS and mostly charge at home for convenience.
Given that the base design architecture of the Model S is 15 years old, including the battery tech, it's either a significant design & tech refresh or just stop selling it!
I agree that the greatest competitor to the Model S is the Models 3. But the $5K hike in Model S pricing is not helping. The truth is that you can buy a year old Model S Plaid for $20K less than a new Model S LR! If they dropped the price of the base Model S LR to $65K, it would be cheaper than the most affordable Lucid, and close enough to the M3P for the choice to move up to a bigger vehicle enticing, especially with it's superior range capability. I think that they should also deliver the car that they promised years ago, being the Plaid+, using the 2nd generation 4680 battery pack, but in a smaller pack size, to shave off 500lbs, and gain in every other performance metric. Likewise, if they do finally build the Roadster II they should use that same smaller, lighter 4680-2 pack. The new Roadster never needed 600 miles of range, and it would benefit much more having "only" 300 miles of range, but losing 1,000lbs of weight.
Drew, your point about Tesla using the cherry on top (desserts) excuse for delaying the Roadster is spot on. They shouldn't have taken pre-orders if they weren't serious about building it in a timely manner. All those UA-camrs, streamers, and regular Joe's that was basically Tesla PR team in the early days aren't getting their free Roadster, which is outrageous. Tesla probably would have been fine and grown without these people, but it feels like Tesla used them without honoring the deal.
I’ve bought 2- model S and feel it needs a major update. Like the CT, it should have 800V high voltage system and 48V low voltage system. Give us 4 -wheel steer by wire, ambient lighting, and massage seats. Compete more with Lucid and Porsche.
The should not discontinue the x, but they should refresh it to almost unrecognizable. Ditch the falcon doors and make it very easy to build. They would sell a hell of a lot of them if they were more affordable.
Elon is at a point where he's at a cry for help now the fact that people are still asking for him to literally build the Roadster as relatively just ridiculous. He is so distracted with political aims and things that no one cares about. Not only that, Tesla has, at this point i am afraid to say lost its way. Peter was right when he said that Lucid surpassed Tesla on its technology on its cars. Lucid may not have the software completely down pat yet even though he is working on it, but they may some really damn good cars. And those cars are luxury and more driver focused than Tesla. Added to that he mentioned about doing level 4 Superchargeing and i see that is going to be awhile, with all the distractions, and the crazy part is CCS has improved since the announcement from the Automakers that he was to get everyone on to NACS before pulling the rug on everyone with the firing of everyone on the Supercharger network team. Lucid is going to have the Gravity on NACS, but I don't have any faith for Lucid to use the network for Gravity. Worst I think this is a bad idea for Lucid. And I believe they should keep CCS and have NACS as a backup or option. The German Automakers are not changing to NACS because of the incompetence that Elon caused to the Superchargers team. I don't know about you and others that think of Tesla as a great brand but I do think that the company has lost it's way at this point, and it is time to move on to a better Automaker like Lucid to give customers what they want... Great cars.🤨👍🏿
Why do you want to get rid of the ones I own 😢😢? I honestly luv'd my model S. It was the one right before they scraped the idea of sunroofs. Side note. The Galaxy's are way better than the iphone.
You are missing one thing. While Tesla is charging 30+ cents per kWh, they are producing power cheap enough that they promised the semi market 7 cents per kWh.
Thanks for the breakdown! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
I’m not sure Tesla will ever make the roadster. Also, I think a van will be built on a stretched version of the Juniper Model Y platform, not the Model X.
I got a used 2013 Model S with only 18k miles on it and it has the free supercharging for life. I still charge at home during off peak times so the hit really isn't that bad on the electric bill. Any travelling will be using the hell out of that charging though. This car is just until I can take delivery on my Aptera which is honestly what I am waiting for.
Wait until the Tesla earnings call and you will see the pullback on the stock! Kyle Conner wants to sell his Model S Plaid which he paid $150,000 for. It books for $48,000!😊
Couldn't agree more. . . I was going to buy a Model S. . . but after test driving both cars. The lower price and (at the time) Yokeless steering wheel. . . Tesla honestly lost me because the Model 3 really is that good! It is more efficient and amazing!!!
Even at 5-10k cars /qtr the lines are paid for. As long as they aren’t loosing money on them. They are flagship and aspirational to many lower model drivers
First I’m not a Tesla guy. I’m not saying I don’t like them, I just don’t own one and I’m not loyal to them like you see some people. With that said, I agree that the model 3 and Y is the bread and butter right now for Tesla. There is nothing wrong with that though. The flagship vehicle is never the volume car! Tesla just needs to relocate their resources and build more Model 3 and Y’s and build less Models S’s. On top of that, give the X and S a proper makeover to justify its cost! Last but not least, China is causing them issues!
Yes model S owners have money and prefer convenience! So they will mostly charge at home overnight while they sleep! Not sit at a supercharger like a common bloke!
Have a MY and have test drove the X. Could use the extra room. My $.02 - the MX and MS in current state should be “cheaper.” It is ok that they haven’t had major updates but lower price. I’d be all over a new MX if it was in $60K range. Also agree, free/included FSD would be more meaningful than free Suoercharging.
I lost touch of the ev arms race in the last 3 or 4 years. Honestly the only thing I look forward to is the Aptera or super affordable A segment electric city cars from China. Couldn't give a bollocks now for the tarnished icon that started it all and any other size and class of vehicle like it be it the Hyundai/KIA EVs, GM's Ultiums, Riviansm Fords, ID BUZZes or Cybertrucks. It's like there's a malaise, a dead end to a market that cannot compete or deliver like in the 70s & 80s & 2008, competitors and ultimately markets that cannot stop choosing growing profits running away from the inflation it creates, businesses that cannot sell sustainably affordable cars or sustainable cars (lower impact of emissions and materials) thereof with meager margins since that's the reason why there were EV incentives in the first place, right?. Just waiting to hear it all 💭 "pop"
It's so disappointing. A 70,000 dollar fucking minivan with 200 miles of range. The model 3 is the only car that even pretends to give a shit about normal people's budgets
"What dies model s have that model 3 doesn't?" U field about the huge amount of cargo room? Premium parts(like the titanium winter proof undercarriage? ) I road trip in my S. I can't fit in a 3. Me and my family are all over 6ft, 200 lbs...
Model S is marketing for Tesla... It is used to drag race supercars. That's why they updateted the p100d to the performance and then to plaid (2021)... When they can scale lighter battery packs, they will try to best the lucid sapphire.
The thought of having $250,000 tied up as a placeholder for a car that at this point probably won’t be made just makes me nauseous. It doesn’t have to be the fastest/loudest w thrusters… is the dumbest thing I’ve heard from Elon 😂
I also did not get why Tesla Stock ramp so much, same reason as you mentioned. What is the driver for next year, if Robo will still be shifted to 2026. However I have stocks, thus I am happy.
I bought a model X this month that was considerably cheaper than the model S because of the tax credit. The model S is a tough sell without the tax credit, when the model X is so much more of a vehicle for less
I have kept my 2014 mS have to my son when I got my 22mS and we both charge at home home charging is still more convenient I don’t still think will be crowded as most people think same way
First of all another great video honestly I feel like the market is oversaturated with expensive vehicles I feel like there needs to be a bigger push for more inexpensive vehicles. Especially with the way everything is increasing in price these days everything has went up in price food light gas insurance premiums everything that was one of the bigger reasons for a lot of people to switch to EVs because you can get one of those and then set your car to charge during off-peak hours and eventually you're saving much more money driving an EV over driving a gas-powered vehicle and if you pick up one that more than covers your regular commute then you're saving even more money. But the problem is a lot of the really really good EVs are still just a little bit too expensive for the average consumer actually with the way everything is going up in price. And honestly Tesla is getting a lot of competition from companies that make cheaper EVs like sure the model 3 is great but the starting price on that is $41,000 after incentives which are going away it goes down to like what 34,000 maybe $35,000 whereas you can get something like a Chevy bolt EUV for like 26,000 and in some cases even lower like 18,000 and you can get the maxed out versions for like 37,000. With that being said I think it's time for Tesla to make a push towards an even more affordable vehicle something like in the 15,000 at $18,000 price point range that's way more affordable for average consumers like myself and just give it like 280 mi of range on a full charge because the average consumer is not fully charging their vehicle they might charge it to 70% or 50% and that's enough to cover their daily or weekly commute not to mention the competition elsewhere has already had electric vehicles in that 15 to 18,000 price range for years now like in Europe like in China why not get something like that in the US that's not on the used market because sure you can get those price ranges on the used market but then you don't have the warranty to go with it. Anyway just my two cents keep up the great work bro have a good one and I'll text you on the next one.
One thing i don't understand with people who buy the Model S and sedans that size. What do you need that space for that somehow doesn't require just getting a full on Model X or other SUV? What use case do giant boat sedans serve other than just being big for the sake of being big? Like if you're lugging around a bunch of kids and gear you need an SUV and not a sedan. Genuinely asking.
@@VMYeahVNBetter range, better performance, driver screen, more cargo space, less battery degradation, more aerodynamic, and of course, much much better looking.
Whatever happened to the Roadster you ask!? If they are an AI/Autonomy company then I don't see why they would ever make it.. I do think the next generation of Model S/X *will* exist because Elon hates Peter the Lucid CEO so much. But, I do think they will just be a much bigger luxury sedan/SUV versions of the robotaxi.. My credentials of predictions are that I'm a 2010 TSLA investor and I've been right on a lot of other stuff so far..
@@Timmymao163 I want to know what happened to his car battery. I know it died. I chipped in for his new car. So many people are getting well over 200,000 miles on their BEVs. Was he just unlucky? Too much focus on FSD stuff, so many talented people work at Tesla and its a damn shame to see where the company (and especially the man behind it) is heading…
It has everything to do with what Tesla is doing… Tesla is more than just car deliveries You should use some of your research time to really see what Tesla is about
Your reporting style is truly appreciated! I agree with your honest, expressive points on Tesla moving forward with completing their mission/ promises to develop/deliver the roadster sports car now or stick with a clear timeline. The S is gorgeous yet times have changed. Hopefully 2025 will bring newer defined & clearer changes with S… your suggestion to discontinue the model might be that answer. Since More affordable options seemed to be up wind these days; this might be part of the new direction? Keep up the good work, you are on of the best and most informative channels to watch & listen to😎.
Why would you buy a Model S over a Lucid Air or an EQS when you’re a luxury buyer? Tesla doesn’t have a lot of luxury vehicles. Tesla just needs to cut the costs down on the S well below what they are now or do a ground up redesign. Maybe Elon should just be chairman and then Tesla could get a full time CEO while Elon is in the government.
Maybe because Lucid might not be around for long? Or maybe because the funds for a Lucid performance can buy you Two brand new MS Plaid + a M3P? But I admit I'd go for the Touring model over a long range MS at least. Those things are sweet.
As someone with a model S (on my second one), if it were to disappear tomorrow, I’d go and buy another one before some other brand. I’ve loved how the mod S drives for many years now. Self driving is just icing on the cake. The software. Charging network. Etc.
You’re normally really observant and pretty spot on with your observations. But to completely gloss over the fact that they’ve also increased the price by $5000 and to say that it doesn’t matter, is disappointing coming from you. They don’t lose or gain anything from offering free supercharging. Not to mention, most people buying the S, will mostly charge at home. If anything, the price increase is WORSE for most buyers and yet somehow, Tailosive wants you to believe that this end of year push marks the end of the Model S? Just like the 0% APR for model Y and 3, or the free seat options for model X when FSD is selected, it’s simply a marketing tactic for end of year sales. Models 3, Y, and X had some and now does the S. Should we also come to believe that Tesla is retiring the model 3 and Y because they are offering 0% APR and $2000 off in referrals? Model S‘s life may be dwindling, but this is no indication of such.
At the end of the day it doesn't really matter and you're missing the point - Tesla doesn't want to be a normal car company anymore, FSD v13 is doing as well as ever, and selling Optimus robots will be their biggest revenue generator. The cars were all a stepping stone.
Thanks for mentioning this though! I just think that the Model S Plaid being the fastest production car is still amazing and worth producing - Lots of work went into making it happen not too long ago.
If you read their mandate it was always inevitable that certain models would run their course. It's time. 😢 Especially with the Cyber Cab/Robotaxi on it's way in a short time. While some models will be ending their production life cycle, we have new products on the horizon to be excited about. I can't wait to rent out that new party bus 🍺🥂🍾🥃🍸🍹 the "Robovan" 😂😂😂

The Model S has to adopt the high tech features of the electric Porsche Panamara and Taycan
This entire video was pure conjecture and based on zero to little real facts.

Bro must be new here
Drew, your point about Tesla using the cherry on top (desserts) excuse for delaying the Roadster is spot on.
Would you recommend renting a Tesla for a road trip from Ventura county California to Las Vegas? Any issues with it. Always wanted to try it
Only if an extra 4 hours of your lifetime is worth less than the $20 saved on fuel.
Why do you want to get rid of the ones I own 😢😢? I honestly luv'd my model S. It was the one right before they scraped the idea of sunroofs.
Side note. The Galaxy's are way better than the iphone.
Yes, way better. And I hope you can get your S back soon.

@@Neji1984 lol.
Lifetime supercharging is a good way to get revenue now with incremental costs pushed into the future. It’s a sound business strategy.
I hope they keep the s, it's flagship and a good blend of luxury sport
It books for $48,000!😊
The depreciation on the Plaid is amazing. Honestly, for $50k, I would definitely consider one if I was looking to buy a "new" car...and it had stalks.
I kinda think they won’t let it die. It’s a halo vehicle despite the fact that the roadster would usurp that title.
They need to take that Cybertruck Chassis and make a SUV.
He did single handedly destroyed his main customers, the liberals.
I wonder if the supercharging will stay with the vin like the old ones
@@Rudenbehr yeah buzz is a flop
"What dies model s have that model 3 doesn't?" U field about the huge amount of cargo room? Premium parts(like the titanium winter proof undercarriage? )
I road trip in my S. I can't fit in a 3. Me and my family are all over 6ft, 200 lbs...
As long as the roadster replaces it, I can accept that. Also, hear me out, roadster foundation series get wheelie mode
Cut the X, make a 7 seat wagon Cybertruck…
Cherry on top was an excuse 3 years ago. Now, it's just insulting to people who paid deposit for the Roadster.
Model S is marketing for Tesla... It is used to drag race supercars. That's why they updateted the p100d to the performance and then to plaid (2021)... When they can scale lighter battery packs, they will try to best the lucid sapphire.
The S, X, and Roadster should share a platform, with the latest and greatest tech.
I just bought a Model X as well. If I didn't have the need for extra seats I'd love to have an S.
The best bet in my opinion is to shut down the factory in California eventually.
The Model S Plaid is the best car that Tesla has to offer.
A model S is bigger than the 3 important factor, don’t know how I use to own a 3, have a Y now can’t go backwards
They should make a long-wheel base Roadster. Something like a Koenigsegg Gemera.
I would turn that line to make the roadster!
The model S is a much bigger car. I would personally never get a model 3 because of its size.
Yea it's not even an apples to apples comparison.
@VMYeahVN America, dude. We get we want, not what we need.
@@VMYeahVN Oh and I forgot, better towing capacity.
As bad as the resale value is the model s is a hell of a bargain especially the plaid model
The "S" has a hatchback
Its for Lyft and Uber drivers. They write off the loan on their earnings and since the fuel is free. WOW..
Like the Uber driver whose battery died at 15 months and 120k miles due to supercharger only? Guess that's the real lifetime of the battery.
@@Timmymao163 I want to know what happened to his car battery. I know it died. I chipped in for his new car. So many people are getting well over 200,000 miles on their BEVs. Was he just unlucky? People get ICE engines that die early because of some reason or another. Daughter had a jeep that burned about a quart of oil every two weeks and they said it was normal.
Pretty sure a refresh model s is on the horizon. Might be one of the new vehicles Elon eluded to earlier this year.
I’m probably different than most commenters here. I’m fascinated by Tesla but hate Elon. Yet if they made a Tesla Minivan…that would be a compelling buy for me.
It has nothing to do with the state of the company? That is true intellectual dishonesty. Yikes
I think Tesla needs to build S and X cars at giga China too. there is a huge market in china for them too I believe.
I desperately miss the Tesla from like 2019 man. Elon turned from Teslas biggest asset to their biggest liability, as long as he is in charge, the S3XY Lineup will not get the love it needs. Too much focus on FSD stuff, so many talented people work at Tesla and its a damn shame to see where the company (and especially the man behind it) is heading…
It has everything to do with what Tesla is doing… Tesla is more than just car deliveries
You should use some of your research time to really see what Tesla is about
Just give it a lot more features and keep it. Would hate to see it go
Your reporting style is truly appreciated!
M3 is a starter Tesla. No competition.
Etc.
@@codycastMS IS Tesla for me. The others are for the younger crowd.
I think they are targeting Lucid. Not that they should worry but meh idk
Are there people still buying these pieces of crap?? Why?? There are far better cars in quality, price, and reliability.
Model S is still the best tesla. The 3 is so small, come on son.
They gain $5,000 from most people as most people won't be Supercharging most of the time.
is that the PewDiePie chair?
At the end of the day it doesn't really matter and you're missing the point - Tesla doesn't want to be a normal car company anymore, FSD v13 is doing as well as ever, and selling Optimus robots will be their biggest revenue generator. The cars were all a stepping stone.
FSD version infinite still can't pass a basic driver's license test. Good luck risking your life!
@Timmymao163 That's not true whatsoever, you should watch Dirty Tesla's latest videos.
What’s funny is my first model S came with free supercharging for life. They all did.
Is it still charging?
@ I sold it a while ago and got the “yoke” refresh.
Thanks for mentioning this though! I just think that the Model S Plaid being the fastest production car is still amazing and worth producing - Lots of work went into making it happen not too long ago.
