I had to mute the song to remove a copyright claim after posting- I’ll likely delete this video since it’s not what i originally posted. I have unadjusted reactions on Patreon and appreciate the support of the channel on Patreon - it’s been frustrating creating around these claims on UA-cam, but if you still enjoy watching I’ll keep making them even if some have to be adjusted to remove claims. If this video is no longer worth keeping up, please give me your feedback below and I’ll delete it
    With love
    Justin

She writes all of her songs, some totally by herself, cause that's kinda her comfort zone, writing alone, for example the whole Speak Now TV album is just her, no one else, Otherwise she usually writes with just one or two other people (nowdays it's usually with Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner, or all of them together), there are very few exceptions where there were 4 co-writers and more, usually when it was a collab or something like that.

They just get song writing credits when they change a lyric or something, but they’re mainly there to help write the music not entirely lyrics

💯 I came here to say this!
Also with the screwed up music industry being as it is,
If u r even in the room when she writes a lyric or changes one,
U get song writing credits🙄 even tho (most) don’t contribute at all!

@@bluelion6783Aaron is different… he does the music and she writes to track. He is the only person she does that with. And I think it is clear his music makes her feel things that she then writes about which is why I think her work with Aaron is so superior.

This song is about John Mayer and the relationship he had with Taylor when she was 19 and he was 32. In the song she describes her innocence being taken away by him, which would probably be pretty traumatic. The line “give me back my girlhood, it was mine first” represents her youth or innocence or maybe even virginity. The line “but lord you made me feel important” is also very telling because when older guys date and groom younger women, they make them feel important in a way that people their age can’t. Another telling line in the song is “if you tasted poison you could’ve spit me out at the first chance” because it shows that she had a crush on him first, and he went along with it. In situations like these the older person should be mature enough to shut down the younger ones feelings for their own good. The Midnights album is about sleepless nights throughout Taylor’s life, and her trauma from this relationship is certainly something that could keep her up at night. You should check out Dear John if you haven’t already because it is also a song about Mayer and it has very powerful vocals.

Taylor writes 100% the lyrics of all her songs. When she does have co-writers even if they only contribute to one or two words she will give them credit for it by making them a cowriter. With Folklore and Evermore album all the songs with Aaron Dessner will say written by them both however Taylor is the sole writer for the songs, the music Aaron writes is the instrument. Aaron has said in interviews that Taylor is the songwriter and he writes the music (instruments). And yes this song is about John Mayer. Fun fact Aaron said that Taylor wrote this song the same night she won the Grammy for Folklore back in 2021. And guess who also performed that night at the Grammy’s, John Mayer. Oh and the house John lived in at the time they dated apparently had stained glass windows 🪟. Taylor is such a Mastermind 😂❤

This song was about her relationships with john mayer when she was 19 and he was 32.
Also, yes she actively writes all of her songs and co-writersplay a short role only in her lyrics. Some people said that she didn't write her own songs so she wrote her album speak now without any co-writers( except for one in the deluxe edition)

She wrote 'Dear John" about her relationship 19 with John Mayer who was 32. She wrote this one at age 32, looking back on that relationship. She writes her stuff & only has co-writers once in a while.

You've read by now that Taylor does write all of her music. There are also songs she's done FOR other artists. She'll write a song, and determine that she wants someone else to have it, and so there are chart toppers out there by other artists that she's written, but most people don't know. She has done some collabs with men she's dated too. When she writes with others, she is still the main writer.
Her songs are largely how she works through things in her life and often about people in her life and relationships. Not all of them though. Some might just loosely be related to something in her life. Folklore is an album that has songs that are not taken from her life, but are still about life. She's a storyteller and that's what her songs are doing. It's her talent. Some people keep seem to help but bring up her voice in order to diminish her accomplishment. I love her voice. I love how skilled she is at using it to sell a song. It's like another instrument. She's worked hard at singing better, but I think it's better that a voice can sell the song. She doesn't need to sound like Adele to do that for me.
You've learned by now that the song is about John Meyer. She did another song hears ago about it, and this is a follow up, from years later. It's sad that it still bothers her.

It's been established that this song is about John Mayer, but the part that not many people (or swifties) know that makes me wanna projectile vomit when i hear it, is that she uses all of these "religious words" like "my faith", "god rest my soul" and ESPECIALLY "stained glass windows in my mind, i regret you alm the time". At that time John Mayer lived in an apartment that was a REFURBISHED CHURCH. His place had literal stained glass windows, so she is actually transported back into the physical place

She wrote her songs either entirely or at least 85%. They’re all her experiences, random thoughts or ideas. People like to rag on her writing about her experiences but that’s what all songwriters do. Example Usher’s Confessions album was written by Jermaine Dupree about his relationship experiences that involved him cheating on his girlfriend & it was one of, if not the biggest, Usher album. The difference with her is she sings her own music instead of selling it to another artist to sing & instead of people appreciating her talent & vulnerability, they complain that she’s sharing too much.

(See link in comment) Your reactions to her lyrics are great! Taylor is one of the best lyricists, she was hired to write songs when she was 14, and her writing partner called her a savant. Taylor describes herself as a lyricist/poet that happens to sing. Her voice has evolved with age, this song was recorded 13 years after Dear John, when she was sadder, whereas this song after 13 years has more anger in her voice. I recommend watching, Taylor's, "making of a song" and her "Long Pond Sessions", as they show you her song writing and crafting it into a song processes. This is the best video video of her process...
