Not only in this song heavily inspired by Stax soul, but he includes Curtis Mayfield's "It's Alright" and Al Green's "Take Me To The River" further displaying his love of Soul and Motown. Bruce just recorded a whole album of Soul covers called "Only The Strong Survive".
This is just a taste of what it was like to experience a four plus hour Bruce Springsteen concert. I have seen Bruce 23 times in concert and every one is a special memory.
With this performance you get it all - Bruce the singer, the entertainer and the priest. The song tells the story of the E Street Band. Bruce, Clarence Clemons (sax, died 2011), Danny Federici (organ, died 2009) and Garry Tallent (bass) are founding members, Max Weinberg (drums, Conan O'Brian Show), Roy Bittan (piano) and Steven van Zandt (guitar, Sopranos, Lilyhammer) joined in the mid seventies, Nils Lofgren (guitar) and Patti Scialfa (guitar, vocals, Bruce wife) in 1984. Bruce and Clarence were soul brothers. As the Big Man died Bruce said "Losing Clarence was like losing the rain". Think, that says a lot. Btw, he got replaced by his nephew Jake Clemons. Had the pleasure to see them 3 times so far and will see them again 2 times in 2025. And even today, at the age of 75, his shows still lasts for 3 hours.
That’s not his encore. That’s the middle of his 3+ hour concert. He’s been my favorite since I was 8. I’m 48 now. He’s the best, and his love for his band is the best!
This was the song that cemented Steve van Zandt's place in the band. He was not in the band when they recorded the first two albums, but they had all played together in different bands prior to Bruce's recording contract. Steve came into the studio when they were recording the Born To Run album and organized the horn arrangement for "Tenth Ave" . Steve didn't perform on the album other than some backing vocals, but Bruce offered him the job and he joined the band for the Born To Run tour.
Bruce is such an amazing live show! And I’ve always loved this song. His shoes are a workout, for the band and the audience…. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!! So thankful I found this channel and the great community you’ve built here! ❤️🎶
If you guys are ever in the mood for deeper cuts from Bruce...and something out of the ordinary for him, check out "Soul Driver" from his 1992 album Human Touch (recorded w/o the E Street Band). It's a modern sounding bluesy number. ua-cam.com/video/5jM3VmsUl7I/v-deo.htmlsi=zpjIDEzr85zT_rHd or "Kitty's Back" from his 2nd album. High energy Jazz infused rock. ua-cam.com/video/bLulUBjiIIc/v-deo.htmlsi=9gnxi7pp6JIo8Ynz notes: Bruce's original keyboard player David Sancious plays organ on both tracks. Also on "Soul Driver" are Randy Jackson (from American Idol) on bass, the late-great Jeff Porcaro (Toto) on drums, the legend Sam Moore (Sam & Dave) on harmony vocals, and journeyman studio musician Tim Pierce on 2nd guitar.
This is from the reunion tour, so 1999/2000. Bruce is 50 here. Stevie plays a few guitars acoustic, sometimes lead guitar alternating with Nils depending on the song and if Bruce is with the audience. He also plays mandolin. Garry plays bass. Stevie also started in Lilyhammer. He was also in a Christmas movie a few years ago, can't remember the name of the top of my head. Patti is his wife, hence first lady of love, she was singing a bit of Rumbledoll the title song of her first album which had just been released. Great album.
Clarence "Big Man" Clemons wasn't just the sax player -- he was Bruce's foil on stage -- his soul brother. He is a character in the song they are performing. It's been. years since he passed (and Danny, RIP). His nephew Jake has replaced him
Steve also starred in another series called Lilyhammer where he is a former mid-level mobster who is sent to Norway in the witness protection program. Something like that. Tony Sirico (also of Sopranos) appears in seasons 2 and 3, and Bruce makes an appearance in the final episode. Famous Norwegian singer Angelina Jordan also appeared on the show.
I was lucky enough to attend some concerts of Bruce and the E Street Band, I know well what it means to participate in such a party. The only sadness is to see Big Man and Danny, who unfortunately are no longer with us and knowing that of them remains only the great memory and all the music they gave us
Oh man Bruce Springsteen is the best thank you for reacting to this one of my favorite saw him in Vancouver Canada way back with the Born in the USA album long ago 80s lol I just aged as a teenager ya just aged myself lol 😅😊
I saw him in Vancouver in 2003 2008 and 2012. I would have gone in 1985, but I was 3 people away from getting a ticket. As for the concert last week, the prices were too high.😢
My first concert ever was Springsteen's BitUSA tour and it was 4.5 hours long. Came home in the wee hours of the morning, tired, sweaty, with no voice left. I thought all concerts were this long so I was so disappointed with other concerts I went to.
Bruce always overdelivers. I've seen him a number of times over the past 40+ years, including last year in Baltimore (as in "left a wife and kid in ......." IYKYK. 😃 While he didn't jump off of the piano, at 74 he still left every bit of himself on the stage. And most fans in any audience would still be fine if 10th Avenue Freeze Out was twice as long.
Springsteen & The E Street Band are the greatest American Rock & Roll Band ever!

Thank you so much. I only just now saw that you did my request! Great job. I'll have another one for you soon.
Classic Bruce. All his shows where this intense
Are this intense.
Nah, they do every song like that!

Small correction. Rumble doll had been out for about ten years. One of my favorite albums of the 90’s
I have seen Bruce every tour since 1978. This was in the middle of the show.
Clarence "Big Man" Clemons wasn't just the sax player -- he was Bruce's foil on stage -- his soul brother. He is a character in the song they are performing. It's been. years since he passed (and Danny, RIP). His nephew Jake has replaced him

I wish I had 1/4 of his energy!! Have a very Happy Thanksgiving 🍗 🎶 Cyd
Now that's an intro.

In 2008 The Big Man was in rough shape but he performed his guts out.
Oh man Bruce Springsteen is the best thank you for reacting to this one of my favorite saw him in Vancouver Canada way back with the Born in the USA album long ago 80s lol I just aged as a teenager ya just aged myself lol 😅😊

Great backstory, genuine shout out to everyone on Thanksgiving. And great Reaction. ❤
"That must have been the end of that show." #Adorable
Lol. I cracked up, too.
From concerts on June 29 or July 1, 2000. Bruce is 50 years old
Da Boss. ❤
My first concert ever was Springsteen's BitUSA tour and it was 4.5 hours long. Came home in the wee hours of the morning, tired, sweaty, with no voice left. I thought all concerts were this long so I was so disappointed with other concerts I went to.
I, too, became a fan in 84. Saw him in 84 and 85 on that tour and about thirty times since.
This is from '99 or 2000. My all time favorite version of this song
Great !
The late great Clarence Clemmons. From NYC. HBO Special. 2000 I believe. Madison Sq Garden.
Patti has been his wife for probably 30 years they have 3 kids.
Any Bruce fan knows that.
Patty scialfa is his wife

This was not even the encore. 😊
Start off with a live version from 1978 of prove it all night.
That was not a “thing” he always does. He was reacting to a poster a fan brought, which is a regular thing he does.
Nope, not the end. Another 11/2 hours to go. 3 hours.
