“And even though it all went wrong, ill stand before the Lord of song, but nothing on my tongue but hallelujah” What is it about this that makes me feel, that brings me to tears? That one verse is where I feel all the power and might this song has. I’ve spent like, weeks trying to decipher it and I can’t. What is it?
I have heard that this song is simply about a songwriter trying to write a song. Hallelujah can mean many different things to people but for the writer, he couldn't think of any other word to work in the chorus which is why it is simply just Hallelujah over and over again. They didn't know what the word meant so it simply meant as filler to them while to others it is a cry of victory or of religion.
Music is up to interpretation, but the way I see it, it's someone looking back at life, seeing all they tried to do, all the mistakes that were made, all their intentions, but figures even it was all "wrong", it was still all worth it, and when time comes they will stand before God with no regrets
Today, November 11, 2016, I learned of Leonard's death....I'm truly saddened by the news. At least we will always have his music and these videos. Praise God in ALL things. Rest in Peace my friend.
This was Christina’s favourite song. She played it all the time when she was young and from school. She passed away when she was sleeping a few days ago from breast cancer, but she will always be in my heart.
I wish I heard this song earlier in my life so that I could thank and appreciate Mr. Cohen for this most beautiful song I've ever heard. :( R.I.P. Leonard Cohen.
I LOVE hearing the composer sing his own song! I just KNEW that he wasn't saying "you," he was saying "ya," because that makes it rhyme with Hallelujah! I'd like people to start singing it as he wrote it!!
This is the only song that makes me cry every single time I listen to it. So many reasons why it is universal... Jeff buckley`s version is also beautiful but there´s something really moving in the fact that Leonard actually wrote it. To me, this song is an ode to romanticism, nostalgia and true love.
Wow same. Maybe we're in the same school? Or a coincidence. I remember how my choir teacher was very passionate about it. She had said everyone liked it. It's kinda sad because she left. I miss her...
we miss u leonard cohen. Had been following his album launch and his interviews and felt truly sad on hearing this news. he seemed to be such a sweet soul. a true poet. RIP.
"You know, I never thought I'd see the heroes of DC united, fighting as one. It wouldn't of happened without you, Zack. I'm sure Autumn would be proud"
Just keeping it real like, thank you Leonard Cohen for your awesome music setting the mood to get me laid many many times lol. R.I.P you will always be of the greats and you will always be a major contributing factor to some of the best memories of my life REAL SHIT
Everyone here debating whether they got here from Justice League or Watchmen, and here I am realizing they’re both by Zack Snyder. He must really like that song.
"So there's this secret chord...you don't care for music? Too bad because I'm going to tell you about it anyway." I love this beautiful song with all its many interpretations but this is the only way I can think of the words in the first verse.
I'm still listening - I don't hear a robot - someone in this thread described it well - A prayer, an anthem, a cry, a song, a salute. Amen. Amen. I think this is a soaring, timeless song.
szekelymihai Yes, you do. Go to the settings button on the video, and change it there (unless you're watching this on a mobile device, perhaps). It sounds much better at 1.25. I agree.
I am Muslim, Nowadays which type of music we are listening? "That david played and pleased the lord" David just recites Zabur (Psalms) in his beautiful voice, I don't know but maybe with maximum one instrument. What about new generation music?????
Love is not a victory march, it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah......
Now you're depressing me bro. You still wallowing in heartbreak?
Maybe...shut up.
Hahaha!

"I did my best I know it wasn´t much ... And even tho it all went wrong I´ll stand before the lord of song with nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah."

A prayer, anthem and a cry. A song. A salute.

there's a blaze of light in every word,
it doesn't matter which you're heard
can we all agree that's one of the best phrases ever?
I like other version and all... But this is the best version imo. Leonard Cohen for life.
I agree.
He made the song
“And even though it all went wrong, ill stand before the Lord of song, but nothing on my tongue but hallelujah” What is it about this that makes me feel, that brings me to tears? That one verse is where I feel all the power and might this song has. I’ve spent like, weeks trying to decipher it and I can’t. What is it?
Someone remarked it was redemption...plus hope, mixed in wth sadness. I also believe a bit of defiance as well

@@assassinmaster3419 I heard it was about Cohen's complicated relationship with his religion.
@@theasinclaire52 guess the only person that will ever know the true reason is Cohen himself

Hands down; the best version.
RIP Leonard Cohen. May God grant you eternal rest. May God be happy when He hears you singing praises to honor and worship Him.
I LOVE hearing the composer sing his own song! I just KNEW that he wasn't saying "you," he was saying "ya," because that makes it rhyme with Hallelujah! I'd like people to start singing it as he wrote it!!
You're so right. I've been listening to popular covers of the song and it drives me nuts how people pronounce "you" not like "ya".
All down to Snyder cut.... Which introduced this Legendary Song to me.... I m absolutely taken aback by its beauty.....haunting music

R.I.P. Thank you for giving us such beautiful poems. Hallelujah, Leonard Cohen! ❤️😢
Leonard was an amazing lyricist. Have always been touched by his words. Amen. Bless everyone who reads my comment. Have a joyful Thanksgiving.
we sang a version of this song for choir two years ago; been in love with it ever since. the lyrics are powerful and agh it’s just great

The Legend lives on!!!!! Its indeed a broken Hallalujah, Godspeed to the Lord.
Greatest song of all time.
Leonard Cohen had a very interesting sense of humor, he was brilliant and please RIP Mr Cohen you were brilliant and live on through your music
The best version of the song.
Leonard Cohen wrote this song and is Brilliant.
His voice is absolutely Perfect.
All others that cover this song are crap, Leonard is the Master !
I disagree, have you heard the John Cale version?
I agree
Jo Blow Cohen's voice has a certain unique quality but I think this version is a bit too downtempo and the chorus is way overproduced.
I do not agree at all.
I thing one girl from x factor adria 2015 was better than the original. Do not hate me.
Jo Blow hallelujah! you are so right!
The Watchmen brought me here! Love this song
Mooie muziek van Leonard Cohen, is echt genieten.!!!

Damn firejaculation
Rufus Wainwright has definitely transformed this song so much! I think it's better his way.
I love this song, and I really like both this version and the Rufus version, but I think it would be great if these two versions were combined.
Great.
this song is good to listen to.

Cloverton version of hallelujah is wonderful also
put the speed on settings to 1.25 and it sounds normal
How?
szekelymihai roll over the video, click settings, like where quality is, and click speed. set to 1.25
Unfortunately, I don't have the speed option on this video. I've rarely seen it on YT :(

Nowadays which type of music we are listening?
"That david played and pleased the lord"
David just recites Zabur (Psalms) in his beautiful voice, I don't know but maybe with maximum one instrument.
What about new generation music?????
R.I.P. Leonard...But this version is too slow. But it has the best lyrics of the bunch.
This is the original...
Guess you won’t like the 7:20 version he sang in London😂
K D Lang's version is amazing.
Gods speed
It’s The Watchman for me 🙂
Every time I listen to 3:41, the image of Superman clashing with Steppenwolf comes to mind.
wakanda forever
Every time I hear this version I think of the sex scene from the movie the Watchmen.
Bret .Maverick yup
+Bret .Maverick I used to think of Shrek before but thanks a bunch Zack Snyder
XD
+Bret .Maverick There was definitely a "hallelujah" moment going on there. :P
