Those who are short on time, the only two things mentioned in this video:
1. Use Rapid Review Biochemistry to study biochemistry (for boards)
2. Study class notes and lecture (stuff professor said) notes to pass Biochemistry for school
No offense DocOssareh! You still the best! =) Mwah!
thanks
aks1 Hi Swety
Hi baby
Thank you
I watch your videos while I'm really high I know nothing about biochem or medical school but all I can say is you're fucking entertaining and should do UA-cam for life
what?
Resurrects memories. I still fail to understand why medical schools insist on wasting precious student time with biochemistry courses. It is of virtually no value whatever in the practice of medicine or surgery. Do I speak with any authority on the matter?
I think so; I'm certified by three boards.
WOAH!!😃👍🏾👨🏾⚕️
You need them to understand the basic physiology about stuff ... it did help me ...so i don't know what you're talking about.
@@Opstry Well, I do know what I'm talking about. Medical school time is very precious and should never be wasted. Studying biochem. is a waste of time, as is embryology. Dissecting a cadaver in the first year is suboptimal as well and should be reserved for and coupled with junior and senior surgery. Combining gross anatomy with surgical technique under both depts. and correlative radiologic/CT description prove very useful.
@@wholeNwon I finished top of my class in pharmacology, physiology, pathophysiology and internal medicine without any knowledge of biochem, of course some little pathways are important but all you need to know is that in some tissue, substrate A is turned into B by enzyme C if C is not there then bla bla clinical aspects! never did I have a problem understanding anything, in pharmacology some receptors are important but not the WHOLE FREAKIN CASCADE WITH COFACTORS and shuttles and adaptor molecules.
in no way did I ever realize why I need to know the chemical formulas, which group attacks another group, and which chemical bonds are highest in energy. sorry this is why we have scientists, bioengineers, pharmacists and etc.
its just medical student abuse. because let's face it, we are not idiots and if we had the time and training we would've learned it, but when you have one million and other stuff to memorise yes its a total waste of time and effort.
speaking as a person that was forced to do biochem later in med school due to some beaurocracy stuff. worse month of my student life.
@@kalishnikov27642 Amen! I wish you all the best. Incidentally, I attended a very old and very traditional medical school. Even they continually adjusted the curriculum. In my years, biochem. and other virtually useless things were truncated to a few lectures. When we took the National Board exams, ours was the highest scoring class in the country. One of my lab partners was the highest scoring individual. The class before ours was highest scoring, too. The one before them was #2, etc.
Magnificent...and I'm not even a medical student! Since the seventies when I watched medical students at the University of Illinois tearing out their hair trying to figure out a sane and balanced approach to learning all that med school threw at them, I have always felt that there must be an intelligent approach to med school study that those brilliant kids were never exposed to. I was right! These videos will not erase all the hard work you have to put in acquiring knowledge. They reveal a path
Thanks alot for these videos man. It makes me feel better that I'm not the only one making mistakes and have to go rectify them again. Keep it up!!
I like how he starts of with "What's up UA-cam?"...
UA-cam's probably gonna be like " Nothing much mate, just streaming a few videos"... :P
We need more people like you in the medical world! You are the future and an inspiration!
This guy is going be the God Father of Medicine UA-cam for the next generation
Where I go to school we have Biochem the 2nd year, and it’s one of the big subjects along with Physiology
I'll be starting undergrad medical school soon and your videos could not be anymore helpful, thank you so much for making the time and effort to post these videos
There is now undergraduate medical. There is pre med which is undergraduate. Then it's medical school graduate.
When I took biochem class, we had that textbook Lehninger. I agree how rediculois that book, I could never collect my thoughts after reading a chapter. Not mention the price
hey bro can you give me a tip, my school starts this monday. what do you suggest i do to study for biochem and anatomy.
you din't actually point on how to study biochemistry!
Thank you so much DocOssareh . You have made biochem easy for me as a first year medical student watching
Peace be to you! This is six years late! You might be an Attending by now😁👨🏽⚕️! I just want to say, "thanks" for this video. It took the intimidation factor out of medical school Biochem, for me.
in england you do need to know all of the pathways and krebs cycle :/
not fun :/
joka619 same in Switzerland...!
once i failed the biochemistry exam because i didn't remember a part of the ubiquinone structure(we have just oral exam for bioch). WHY?! T.T
Same in India
Thanks a lot, DocOssarah.
I just downloaded the PDF format of it. It is beautiful and easy in all shades.
We need to know biochem even more now with the new MCAT -.-
Thanks for posting this vid, man. Helped a lot
In my school we study both biochem and medicine, histo, anatomy, embryology at the same time and I’m loosing my mind. I hate biochem tbh and what makes it worse is that my foundation on biochem is low. I’m trying to build up the basics but then I have no time to study the actual material (biochem and the others) an advice please?
Harper’s is also good since it applies biochem concepts to medicine. But review book is good.
You are seriously so awesome! I love your videos, especially these--so helpful!! Thank you!
Thank you for all the tips, they are really helpful! (even for students studying in a different country) :)
Thank you for your information, just ordered the rapid review for biochemistry.
Your videos are great, thank you because they are very helpful.
I have the same exact version of the Lehinger book! Thanks for the tips. Will remember to use them in the future.
Hii this may be a weird question, but hopefully someone can help. How do you actually study the lecture material? This whole time I have been doing it wrong (I just kept reading the slides over and over again, so I did not do well on my exam). Some have told me to whiteboard but that has been sorta helpful.
Ann Ayy idk if this will work for you but how I study lecture materials is I write down materials in a notebook in my own words and color code them to be more organized. Then I just review it. I just find it easier to study my own words rather than someone else tbh. I hope this helps you.
I did hypnotherapy for biochem
how?
Hey DocOssareh! I noticed you went to Saint Mary's. Did you have vidya as a teacher? If you did, do you have any tips on how to do well in her class? I'm trying so hard but I can't seem to do well. Thanks!
Amazon get the prices it gets because by not needing stores and personal (It sells online) it can cut the cost of those things from their products, that's why it is so cheap, it's great.
Haha i was totally thinking "how is that so thin" XD
So how do you use the review book? Read before class and then add the slides and go to lectures to make notes?
Hey! I have a question about all of these great prep books you are mentioning for each subject. Should I invest in one for each major subject of my first semester so I can study more efficiently? I'm afraid I won't have the money to purchase them all once I'm in school. But I can also imagine it being nice getting feedback from upper class men...
My biochemistry exam is tmrw.
Thanks!! I found nice one finally 😍😍 it owes to you !!
hey i always watch you videos im in school studying bio olevel its like so easy so i want to make it harder and start preparing for college but i have no idea where to start from i dont wanna confuse myself any tips the pain of waiting is killing me
I didn't know along with the information that professors give you, you also read a separate review book? I'm taking undergrad biochem next semester and is there a particular weird study routine you had like studying before the semester started? (My friend did that and he got great scores). If I was in med school I would just follow what the professors give and not put any extra information on myself, yet again I'm not an A+ student
I'm a little worried about taking biochem in medical school, because i did not take it in undergrad. Do you have any advise on what i should do before i start medical school?
WE LOVE YOU DOC!! :D
how many girls are using this account? 🤔
you are awesome! i am from Australia and i gotta take the GAMSAT similar to the MCAT, your study tips are fantastic!
Thanks for sharing! God bless you!
Go for pdfdrive, it has all the soft copy of all the books, he refers
Do you think osteopathic medical school students do the same as in use board review books to supplement what they learn in class?
thank you doc ossareh. for your awesome vlogs!
does this book work for someone never did biochemistry ?
same question , it seems like the answer is yes because he said that he wished to know this book when he was a med student
Eleutherorage my university says I have to know all stuff like all stuff . And I use Devlin which I really hate it bcs it's like a research book for biochem and more than half of the material I study never came up. I have same question as u guys asked . I don't know what to do !!! I am in first year of med school.
But in the end he said we have to know what ur school says!!!
Awesome advice!.... again
You're really appreciated!
Thank you for sharing your helpful experiences
SighhhI use Lipincotts and Essential of biochem for med. students. I still don't know how to break it down and study it. I use my tutors lectures and the book but sometimes one point in the slide that the lecturer gives you, is missing from the book and I get so confused!! Sigh!!!!
So, First Aid is really a one-stop-shop review book for all subjects, but you recommend buying a smaller review book for each subject?
i'm starting to learn biochem. can you give me some advice, Pleaseeeeeee
I have Lippincotts. I love it
Thnk you so much! This video is so helpful especially for people tht hate biochem[me] 😅
Thank you for you info... For future videos just state your point and then end the video. In terms of high yield info you still haven't learned lol... this video as high yield should be only 1 min at most.
Hey, thanks for the tip, this was very helpful!
I was asking should i study before school starts, because the video was about taking the class while in school. Unless i missed that in the video? if so, where in the video did you see him address my point?
do you take speed before you blog? lol. love your vids, they make me crack up.
they won't let you just take biochem straight into college. typically you have to take at least chem 1 and 2 and then organic 1 and 2. so you'll get your chem in, don't worry haha
Thank you so much ,your videos are really awesome..
Would you suggest getting a review for a rigorous undergraduate biochem course?
is the Rapid Review Biochemistry good for "first time learning" of the subject?
that's helpful and funny . Thank you sir for your lecture
Is it necessary to take biochem in undergrad in order to do well in it in med school? Or will it just make things easier? Also, same questions regarding other subjects you might take as electives in undergrad (e.g., anatomy, physio, etc.). Thanks.
Hello Doc! Just want to ask your opinion about Harper's Biochemistry? Thank you so much! I'm currently having a hard time dealing with this subject.
I wanted to know when you were taking your undergrad biochemistry 1 and 2. Did you have to draw all the Glycolysis pathways and the Citric Acid cycle on the exam or your exam was all multiple choice questions
doc ossareh, what do you think about biochemistry text book by producer of BRS text book? is it fine? or rapid review is much2 more better???
love you so much Doc!
Loved that undergrad biochem book. The bad part was, it was like 250 dollars when i bought it.
Sir do you think Becker's review is better thankaplan?
Hi is the rapid review better or the BRS Biochem better?
"That's never going to happen"...well my school does not make its own exams. My school takes questions from previous USMLEs as our comp exams
hey thanks for useful videos ,can u please tell me which book did u read for immunology besides brs.
I have a question:
Don't you need all that info in that big textbook for the MCAT ? I mean, after the mcat and getting accepted to medical school maybe not, but wouldn't you need to know biochem in depth for the exam?
Is there one book you recommenced for Step One?
I'm in my second year of biochem undergrad degree, (which my whole degree takes three years), would that book be good to me as well? because my lecturers also recommended the Lehninger textbook and a few others that are as thick. Thank you so much! I love your videos!
you are the man i was searching 4..!!! keep making videos...and if you need any financial assistanse, mail me..
Please make a video about Pharmacology.
+Phuong Nguyen I have! Check out my other videos.
Yeah, finally, I found it. Thanks a lots.
+Phuong Nguyen ua-cam.com/video/XLobf7CuqUY/v-deo.html
Thanks for posting the video it's helpful
if i apply these techniques to my undregrad, will it benefit me or hurt me?
Thanks. Makes sense!
Hey i also made a big mistake. I am planing to study Biology ( Biochemistry) in college. But the mistake is that in my last year of high school is where i started to study human & social biology. And i have not study any biology or chemistry. So what do you think i should do? And what books to study?
I hate too anyway Could you recommend the best biochemistry QBank which cover topics of 1th year med to 3th ???
i love this guy!! he is like my youtubedoctormentor!!!!! thank you so much!!!
sir have you pdf for that rapid review biochemistry???
Do you recommend the rapid review book for undergrad biochem?
Harper's is pretty compact.
hey, i am in MD2 now in a carribean medical school, the professor is using the Lippincott, i am planning on getting the Kaplan books, but for now is the Lippincott book going to help for the Step 1 USMLE?
I use the same books right now!!!!!!
Plz can i get pdf of this book
thank you so very much!!
Why is doing questions so important as to just strictly studying the notes over and over again. I know in my school, ppl say to Anatomy Questions A LOT, but what is the reasoning behind doing it for Biochem? As an assessment tool, or learning tool?
+William Byas While biochemistry does require a lot of memorization, memorization is pretty passive studying and the foundation of biochem depends on chemistry, o-chem, and biology. When you do many questions, you get to stretch your mind and see how everything applies in different scenarios. Memorizing is only a small part of biochem; the key is to ask yourself continuously "why does this matter" or "why does this step/mechanism occur" as you study because you'll discover the basics of chemistry and o-chem are driving forces in the logic of biochemistry.
HI Feilisha Almas, i totally agree. always ask how, why, what if and make it relate to real life "how does this work in the body? why does the body do when this happens? "biochem is all about pathways, sequence, step by step and domino effects. learning the bio chem and physiology makes patho easy
Biochemistry: The study of chemical properties and process of living matter.
Has anyone used MCAT Review books as their review book for classes in Med School? OR think this is a good idea?
hey do you know any good websites for practise for exercises for biochem?I'm having a hard time with it.I don't have the resources to buy books via amazone.
@docossareh what camera are you using to record this
someone plz tell me the guy's name who is in this video
Can i use these books for undergrad as well
Why didn't I see this earlier? I have 3 days until my final... agh
I have it after 2 days...
Now im watching this
Hello doctor
What was your major in Undergrad?
is this review good for Nutritional Biochemistry
I want Suggestions for biochem yt videos. Short not long please
Same
thank you very much
PLEASE man, Can you make more videos on studying. I study SOO HARD but I still cant get the best grades. Im in grade 12 and im scared that if I cant get 90s in highschool, how am I suppose to succeed in university when uni is way harder! PLEASE make more videos
How did it go?
All the doctors I have spoken to .. They absolutely hated biochem!!! Next semester I will be having it.. Histology rules!! :p
Hey Doc! Wonder video..
Are you a straight A student?
