Same. I’m a dealer tech and cannot believe what people pay to get their car serviced. The sad part is the techs make like 10-15 percent of the labor cost. But if your going to do it yourself or bring it to an independent shop use that money your saving on labor to use factory parts. So many times customers use bad parts and end up coming to the dealer for us to fix it
I had the 2006 Accord bought new with the 2.4 I4 engine. That car gave me 360,000 hard miles. I would saying probably the best car I’ve ever owned from new.
My daily driver is a 2014 Accord and I love it. It gets me around town comfortably and if I don't drive it like you were on the test drive it gets 27 mpg. On road trips it's in the upper 30's. Since gas is going up 10-20 cents a gallon every day now that matters more and more
Same here I just traded in my 2000 accord for a 2014 about a month ago and I couldn't be happier with it, it's a great car even with me driving aggressively like I do I still get 27mpg and that's in sport with no eco mode

If she hasn't left for home yet, I'd suggest doing her a huge favor and changing the CVT fluid. You'd be doing her a real solid and it would be interesting to see how much grit and particles are in the fluid after 69,000 miles on a Honda. Nice work!
I love the 4 cylinder accords. So much room to work on compared to the same car with the v6 engine. The internet thinks that repair job costs around $200 for parts and $400 for labor, that must be a 2 hour job.

We have a 2012 Honda Accord EX-L with the 190hp 4 cylinder, just over 74000 miles and it's a fantastic car! It's got great power, great fuel mileage and it's very comfortable on road trips. Fabulous Honda quality and it's a joy to service, take care of it and it's will take care of you for years!
I think it was a bad mistake for Honda to stop putting these in their Accords and going with the 1.5/2.0 turbo crap. These were what you stated, decent horsepower with decent mpg. After this video with the bad water pump, changing my mind about Honda reliability though.
@@captinbeyond The older Honda's had 7yr/100,000 mile interval for timing belt/water pump service. The newer ones not having a timing belt means they can fail without destroying the engine.
@@midwestfarm757 This one did not fail because of the timing belt. It just failed. And with only 62k miles and well taken care of. The timing belt/water pump is not scheduled to be replaced until around 40k more miles than this car had.
Well it’s 8 years old and it’s a pretty simple repair. I had a 2015 Hyundai Sonata that started burning oil like no tomorrow at 40k miles, and then transmission went out at about 70k miles.
They look nice, but people I think are under the impression that the newer kia / hyundais are as reliable and well built as Honda / Toyota and it's probably not true. The warranty is good though.
my 2007 Elantra has been rock solid and I got it in 2008 with around 25K miles. It was a rental car first. 122,500 miles and has never left me stranded and only valve cover gasket and coil pack have been none consumables replaced since I got it in 2008. It has never dripped a drop of oil nor burned any. Timing belt was replaced with all OEM parts at 101K miles and Trans has been flushed by me twice using OEM trans fluid. The paint is even still great except the tops of the plastic bumpers, the clear coat has worn off. It seems newer than around 2010 has been full of problems. Things got too computer controlled and they started using direct injection and smaller engines. My 2.0L is only 137HP but it handles like a go cart and has enough power for fun driving. My car also only weights 2850 pounds compared to the newer ones being over 3000. It has power everything and a power sunroof, and every thing still works perfectly. I get 30mpg in town and 35/36 on the highway. Can easily seat 4 and has a big trunk.

Huh. Honda service advisor here- I’ve only seen one water pump fail on one of these engines. Very, very rare. I’ve seen tensioners fail but the worst that happens is no alternator and such, not an awful repair cost-wise. Very strange to see a water pump failure.
Honda tech here. Totally agree. Never actually seen a water pump fail in this way. Rarely do I even see them leak/weep. Mostly see with these engines is oil pressure sending units and VTC actuators. Oil consumption is also sorta common.

I made a trip last fall of 525 miles on one tank of gas. No TPM. No DRL. No LED headlights. Cloth interior that still looks new. Just one small spot of rust behind the RR wheel. I love that car! I actually got a buddy who is a Honda Tech, he said Water Pump failure on these is strangley common. Thats why when a customer hits 120K and gets the coolant flushed and drive belt and plugs done, he REALLY push's the customer to get a new pump while he's in there. My dad had an 09 with the same motor, he was asleep on a road trip and the pump shit the bed. internally, still spun but wouldnt move any coolant. My step mom drove it with the temp pegged for 20 minutes until it died, Ended up needing a brand new head it was warped so bad

I think because cars are so far categorized in the don't know anything so don't care section in a lot of ladies' (and men really) heads, they don't even pay attention to the obvious. I had a coworker with a camry say he just recently heard that cars need oil changes every 3 mo instead of 3 YEARS. Even 3 months is for the lazy, really its mileage based. Mental. He drives a ton too. I guess his engine was seriously sludged up.
TIL; Put a pan under the work space to save from having to climb under to retrieve every dropped wrench and bolt. Seems obvious, but had never occurred to me before just now.
I test drove a newer Accord with CVT transmission and didn't like it. The next week I test drove the 2005 Accord Coupe and loved it. The 5 speed automatic was great, plus the car didn't have all the newer electronic BS, so less to go wrong with all that extra junk in the car. So bought that instead and have had no complaints. Passed emissions, but on the scanner it had all these X's with N/A next to them. Meaning all that extra emission junk is on the newer Accords and not on the 2005. The guy with the scanner said all of those can turn on the check engine light in the newer cars, but not this one. Also realize most people have no clue on things like that buying a car these days.
got a 2013 accord and i love it, while CVT always has me worried as i have never had a car with one and as its "new tech" i dont yet trust it to not eat itself with hard driving, so i drive easy with it and only hammer down when i need to pass people. no jackrabbit starts. (it also has 170k miles on it with no clue on previous repairs)

@@jjjacer you would do well too get a drain and refill on that CVT. It's a decent transmission believe it or not but it needs clean fluid every 50 to 60 k
I've done quite few of those. Did one with 13k miles making noise. They suffer from early starter failure also. Head gaskets are very weak on that year. Problem with the CVT valve body. Lower transmissions pressure sensor B came undone and people need driving on low oil and burn the clutches, man I'm so Glad I got out of Honda after 10 years dealing with lost of recalls and warranty jobs.

Between Management and Honda tech like make me disassemble the engine and found what was the cause. That was it. I put my 2 weeks after that BS got tires of their games and stupidity.
If you think the cvt accord is quick, you should try one with the 6 speed manual... they can do 60 in 6.7 seconds! Really fast for a family cheep sedan. they have 184 hp for the lx and 189 for the sport (dual exhaust)
I have a love/hate relationship with my 2011, 4 Cyl accord. Great drivetrain, but man do I wish I looked harder at the paint when buying a few years back. It’s peeling off and looks like crap (common with the white Hondas from this generation). But as long as it gets me through college with no major issues, which I believe it will, I’ll be happy!
Enjoyed the video. I own a 2009 Toyota Avensis Tourer (estate/ wagon),with the 1.8 Valvematic engine - 2KR-FAE. Changing the waterpump on that engine is really easy. Manual belt tension, no extra pulley and access good. The only thing removed apart the waterpump and belt was the engine cover. A lot of other engines especially with timing belts are more time and expense.
That engine should have been rated at 189 hp from the factory. My 2013 has 160k miles and has about $2700 in maintenance and service since I bought it new. The engine transmission is a sprightly pair.
While I think I would also like the fake shifts in a CVT, I would 100% prefer to have it work as efficiently as possible, because I believe that it would also help it to last longer. Smoothly changing ratios, instead of having to do fake jumps. I could be wrong, but hopefully not. At the least, it'd be the best for MPG.
@@tbskirk the bearing on the pump just goes bad causing them to seize. Honda had a Technical service bulletin to replace them. It doesn’t happen on all of them. Seemed to affect more CRVs with the 2.4
Her vtec kicked in kind of late but they are good solid cars💪 my 2013 2.4 has 117k on it and still strong with all stock parts still working, just basic maintenance and a valve adjustment done ✔️
What happens with the 8mm torx bolt on Accords and Civics is they break in the block making it a nightmare job. Your Auntie was lucky because it's only a 2014 and not decrepit 2006.👍
Quality on these newer Hondas isn't what it used to be. I have a 19 CTR and my roommate has the exact same Accord, both with issues. My parents have mid 00 era Hondas and they've never been broken ever. The Accord's had a wheel bearing, TB issues, paint issues, and I just replaced the starter. That CVT though seems pretty robust. I did the fluid/filter change for the first time at 94k, and it looked new. Not like the Nissan CVTs.
Sorry to hear that. My wife and I were looking at Civics last year, both old and new. We decided on an 06 since we got a good deal and figured it would last another 10 years if we maintained it well. I heard the 18-19s had oil dilution issues. Happy with our little old Civic

I can see that the original 51R battery has been changed out with a 24F. Please consider putting in an LS. My wife has this same car. Would like to see how it's done.
@@DJMotoVlogs this sensor as its name suggests monitors how much air flows into the engine. If it gets dirty, it will sense less air than there really is. and that will make the ECU computer crazy with restricting fuel
@@DJMotoVlogs so your car gets difficult to warm up at startup. I tried cleaning it on my 2017 CRV and the car warmed up like before. My 2017 accord probably has some other stuff not working properly that has made it hard to warm up without intentionally giving it throttle. I replaced fuel pump filter and air fuel ratio sensor and spark plugs. No big improvement. I think probably the culprit is fuel injector stuck open.
Hondas don't break? I distinctly remember two separate videos of yours that had Hondas burning or steaming on the side of the road while you watched. One was in Las Vegas, if I remember correctly. I owned a Honda once - and yes, they do break.
Seems unusual for that type of problem on a low mileage 2014 car of any kind unless it was wrecked/salvaged at some point, but I always say cars are "machines" and none are immune to problems whether they're Japanese, American, German, or Alien.

I have Honda CRV with the same motor and you have to remove the upper motor mount to remove the belt tensioner. Not much fun and a real pain, but it's a really good car, just some repairs can be a little difficult.
2014, assuming that's the original drive belt/accessory belt, it was a bit overdue due to its age. If I recall, Honda's recommended interval is generally 90-100K miles, or 7 years. Unless noticed that belt is stretched.
They seem to only last 60-120k miles. I’ve replaced 5 on my personal cars and replacing another tomorrow. Better to catch them before they leave you stranded or overheat your engine I figure so I replaced them on the first sign of a problem.

I have that same car but its a 2013. Its even gold just like your aunts, but mine is a sport. My car was the last car my late father bought so I have kept it for a winter car. Its 185 HP and great for the winter. Mine only has like 30K on it as its only used a few months a year
My 2015 Accord 4cyl was my dad's too... he's still around (sorry for your loss), he just decided to replace it last year so I bought it from him... 87k to date and haven't had a water pump failure yet but do have a couple squeaks/rattles and have had to have 1 front hub bearing replaced due to noise, and a check engine light twice which was an O2 sensor and some kind of gas tank sensor that was fairly expensive. Still like the car but kind of thought having a newer Honda would give me problem-free ownership for a little longer. Will probably trade for a new Toyota this year or maybe a Ford Maverick if I can find one.

Owning only Hondas and Toyotas, I have found what lasts 100,000 miles on a Toyota (example: water pump, tensioners) lasts about 80,000 or so miles with the Honda. You trade a bit of durability/longevity for a more fun/peppy driving experience.
That's funny I've only owned Honda's and Toyota's also but ALL of my Toyota's have needed a water pump while I owned them (3 so far), none of my Honda's did (4 including my current 2006 Acura TL which I only replaced as preventive maintenance because the timing belt is driven by it and it's an interference engine). My wife drives our old 2011 Ford Escape hybrid with likely over 130k miles that we bought new and has never needed a water pump which is surprising.

I go based off of what I’ve seen coming from the weep hole on the water pump and the condition of the pump when I take it off the vehicle. Admittedly, I probably replace them a bit earlier than necessary because I keep the vehicles for a long time. I do this because I’ve seen water pumps leak a minor amount, and they do this for a while, it can be unnoticeable if one isn’t paying attention, then all the sudden they let go, and there you are. Both of us have small sample sizes, and we may be replacing them at different points (you may be more aggressive at keeping them on the vehicle longer). I’ve noticed the Toyota is just a little better made all around, on average. Better automatic transmissions, less squeaks/rattles once they get old, etc. again, small sample size, and we may disagree and that’s okay. Enjoy your vehicles.

It makes 186hp, just barely more than the last generation. However, the VCT and new head design makes for much better low end torque that makes the car feel MUCH faster. That said, the one to have is the 6spd manual. I've got a '13 Sport 6spd with about 212k on the clock. Poor thing has been WOT most of its life and it just keeps ticking. Oil analysis looks good too!
You should look into getting a Rally Fighter. I think you'd keep it forever. I'd love to watch you do a detailed video on one. It's put together with all mismatched parts. Like the best of all car manufacturers put into 1 vehicle. Baja racer yet a daily driver.
Is that a timing chain, timing gears, or timing belt? If a belt, wise to do it at the same time. Interference engines are not so happy when the belt breaks. Good on you for looking after family. The one time I had a friend call me with something like this, it was a 200,000 mile 87 Grand Marquis with the 351. He's on a dirt road in the back of beyond. When I answer the phone, all I hear is "What's this noise?" Followed be a horrible screech. The air pump, with less than 100 miles on it, seized. Told him to cut that belt, since it only did his a/c compressor and air pump. Alternator and power steering on the other belt. Good times. Also, having shift points in a CVT is ridiculous. The whole point of a CVT is to allow the engine to be at the most efficient revs for what is being asked while the transmission makes it happen. Plus the fake shifts are GARBAGE. (See the Ford thing) I rented one for a day because I needed air conditioning. I would sooner WALK that deal with that garbage. If you think that water pump is easy, try my old Volvo. 20 minutes start to finish, including bleeding the cooling system. The timing belt and all the related things are still under an hour. Can't beat rear wheel drive for ease of repair.

I own a 2007 Accord. I'm the second owner and just hit 119,000 miles. It's good to know she has a lot of life left.

I took a trip to VA from NY and gotten 38 MPG while doing 65-70 mostly on the way there. These cars are great on gas.
I leased a ‘21 Hybrid last year. The thing is incredible. If I’m careful, I can get about 52 mpg.

If you go through the passenger wheel well it helps to get some of the bolts, Plus it might help you deal with a seized pully. I love honda content!

I had a coworker with a camry say he just recently heard that cars need oil changes every 3 mo instead of 3 YEARS. Even 3 months is for the lazy, really its mileage based. Mental. He drives a ton too. I guess his engine was seriously sludged up.

TIL; Put a pan under the work space to save from having to climb under to retrieve every dropped wrench and bolt. Seems obvious, but had never occurred to me before just now.

I test drove a newer Accord with CVT transmission and didn't like it. The next week I test drove the 2005 Accord Coupe and loved it. The 5 speed automatic was great, plus the car didn't have all the newer electronic BS, so less to go wrong with all that extra junk in the car. So bought that instead and have had no complaints. Passed emissions, but on the scanner it had all these X's with N/A next to them. Meaning all that extra emission junk is on the newer Accords and not on the 2005. The guy with the scanner said all of those can turn on the check engine light in the newer cars, but not this one. Also realize most people have no clue on things like that buying a car these days.
got a 2013 accord and i love it, while CVT always has me worried as i have never had a car with one and as its "new tech" i dont yet trust it to not eat itself with hard driving, so i drive easy with it and only hammer down when i need to pass people. no jackrabbit starts. (it also has 170k miles on it with no clue on previous repairs)
Honda builds their own CVT's. They not nearly as unreliable as Nissan's
@@05Forenza ive heard this, and im sure i got some life in the CVT, just dont know what its limits are compared to my past cars with alot more experience with, and as i said i dont know the cars history, dont know if previous owner was one to let maintenance slide and abuse things (got it at a used car dealer)
@@jjjacer you would do well too get a drain and refill on that CVT. It's a decent transmission believe it or not but it needs clean fluid every 50 to 60 k

I've done quite few of those. Did one with 13k miles making noise. They suffer from early starter failure also. Head gaskets are very weak on that year. Problem with the CVT valve body. Lower transmissions pressure sensor B came undone and people need driving on low oil and burn the clutches, man I'm so Glad I got out of Honda after 10 years dealing with lost of recalls and warranty jobs.
I know some Honda techs who also quit, but mostly upset at the customers who got free engines after driving 20-30,000 miles without changing the oil.
@@midwestfarm757 last engine I did was on a 2012 Odyssey, engine burning oil, did the piston ring recall, after all done engine still making noise. Between Management and Honda tech like make me disassemble the engine and found what was the cause. That was it. I put my 2 weeks after that BS got tires of their games and stupidity.
If you think the cvt accord is quick, you should try one with the 6 speed manual... they can do 60 in 6.7 seconds! Really fast for a family cheep sedan. they have 184 hp for the lx and 189 for the sport (dual exhaust)

I have a love/hate relationship with my 2011, 4 Cyl accord. Great drivetrain, but man do I wish I looked harder at the paint when buying a few years back. It’s peeling off and looks like crap (common with the white Hondas from this generation). But as long as it gets me through college with no major issues, which I believe it will, I’ll be happy!
My 2013 exl v6 has the same issue. Paint is pealing 😞 😭

I bought my 2012 Accord crashed from copart. Its really peeling where I used spray paint. Factory paint is still holding up though.
Enjoyed the video. I own a 2009 Toyota Avensis Tourer (estate/ wagon),with the 1.8 Valvematic engine - 2KR-FAE. Changing the waterpump on that engine is really easy. Manual belt tension, no extra pulley and access good. The only thing removed apart the waterpump and belt was the engine cover. A lot of other engines especially with timing belts are more time and expense.
That engine should have been rated at 189 hp from the factory. My 2013 has 160k miles and has about $2700 in maintenance and service since I bought it new. The engine transmission is a sprightly pair.
It's usually the Civics that break down. Accords are usually rock solid. They just throw Civics together. Surprised the Accord failed.
While I think I would also like the fake shifts in a CVT, I would 100% prefer to have it work as efficiently as possible, because I believe that it would also help it to last longer. Smoothly changing ratios, instead of having to do fake jumps.
I could be wrong, but hopefully not. At the least, it'd be the best for MPG.

When I worked for Honda we did these all the time. Pump would seize on cars with 20,000 miles.
Why did they fail so prematurely?
@@tbskirk the bearing on the pump just goes bad causing them to seize. Honda had a Technical service bulletin to replace them. It doesn’t happen on all of them. Seemed to affect more CRVs with the 2.4
Her vtec kicked in kind of late but they are good solid cars💪 my 2013 2.4 has 117k on it and still strong with all stock parts still working, just basic maintenance and a valve adjustment done ✔️

Quality on these newer Hondas isn't what it used to be. I have a 19 CTR and my roommate has the exact same Accord, both with issues. My parents have mid 00 era Hondas and they've never been broken ever. The Accord's had a wheel bearing, TB issues, paint issues, and I just replaced the starter. That CVT though seems pretty robust. I did the fluid/filter change for the first time at 94k, and it looked new. Not like the Nissan CVTs.
Sorry to hear that. My wife and I were looking at Civics last year, both old and new. We decided on an 06 since we got a good deal and figured it would last another 10 years if we maintained it well. I heard the 18-19s had oil dilution issues. Happy with our little old Civic
They are actually better than those late 90s, early 2000s models.
I have 16CRV and 17Accord; same engines in both: zero problems to this day, at 92K and 55K miles

I can see that the original 51R battery has been changed out with a 24F. Please consider putting in an LS. My wife has this same car. Would like to see how it's done.

I'm surprised to hear it warms up fast, I have a 2013 with the 4cyl and it takes forever to warm up.
my 2017 also takes a long long long time to warm up. You should try cleaning the MAF mass airflow sensor with cleaners.

@@DJMotoVlogs this sensor as its name suggests monitors how much air flows into the engine. If it gets dirty, it will sense less air than there really is. and that will make the ECU computer crazy with restricting fuel
@@DJMotoVlogs so your car gets difficult to warm up at startup. I tried cleaning it on my 2017 CRV and the car warmed up like before. My 2017 accord probably has some other stuff not working properly that has made it hard to warm up without intentionally giving it throttle. I replaced fuel pump filter and air fuel ratio sensor and spark plugs. No big improvement. I think probably the culprit is fuel injector stuck open.

At least it isn't a timing belt driven water pump like the V6, I've heard of them failing and the timing belt snaps then it's engine time.
On many European cars the water pump is internal and driven by the timing belt. Quite common.
LoL my ecotec L61 manual lasted to over 100k miles and only 2 ribs left before I put a brand new oem belt on. LoL
My Mom's Husband owns a 2014 Accord V6 touring with 58k miles and the starter failed. Common problem. Expensive as hell from Honda

Seems unusual for that type of problem on a low mileage 2014 car of any kind unless it was wrecked/salvaged at some point, but I always say cars are "machines" and none are immune to problems whether they're Japanese, American, German, or Alien.

I have Honda CRV with the same motor and you have to remove the upper motor mount to remove the belt tensioner. Not much fun and a real pain, but it's a really good car, just some repairs can be a little difficult.

my 2014 accord 2.4 with about 127k miles had a high pitched whine. after being misdiagnosed a few times, the culprit was found to be the water pump
That did not just fail instantly, it was making noise for a while
2014, assuming that's the original drive belt/accessory belt, it was a bit overdue due to its age. If I recall, Honda's recommended interval is generally 90-100K miles, or 7 years. Unless noticed that belt is stretched.
But that is odd to see the water pump pulley seize up like that, first I have seen to be honest.

They seem to only last 60-120k miles. I’ve replaced 5 on my personal cars and replacing another tomorrow. Better to catch them before they leave you stranded or overheat your engine I figure so I replaced them on the first sign of a problem.

I have that same car but its a 2013. Its even gold just like your aunts, but mine is a sport. My car was the last car my late father bought so I have kept it for a winter car. Its 185 HP and great for the winter. Mine only has like 30K on it as its only used a few months a year
My 2015 Accord 4cyl was my dad's too... he's still around (sorry for your loss), he just decided to replace it last year so I bought it from him... 87k to date and haven't had a water pump failure yet but do have a couple squeaks/rattles and have had to have 1 front hub bearing replaced due to noise, and a check engine light twice which was an O2 sensor and some kind of gas tank sensor that was fairly expensive. Still like the car but kind of thought having a newer Honda would give me problem-free ownership for a little longer. Will probably trade for a new Toyota this year or maybe a Ford Maverick if I can find one.

Owning only Hondas and Toyotas, I have found what lasts 100,000 miles on a Toyota (example: water pump, tensioners) lasts about 80,000 or so miles with the Honda. You trade a bit of durability/longevity for a more fun/peppy driving experience.
That's funny I've only owned Honda's and Toyota's also but ALL of my Toyota's have needed a water pump while I owned them (3 so far), none of my Honda's did (4 including my current 2006 Acura TL which I only replaced as preventive maintenance because the timing belt is driven by it and it's an interference engine). My wife drives our old 2011 Ford Escape hybrid with likely over 130k miles that we bought new and has never needed a water pump which is surprising.
@@Stressless2023 I’m glad you’ve had good luck. I’ve owned a similar amount of each to you. I go based off of what I’ve seen coming from the weep hole on the water pump and the condition of the pump when I take it off the vehicle.
Admittedly, I probably replace them a bit earlier than necessary because I keep the vehicles for a long time. I do this because I’ve seen water pumps leak a minor amount, and they do this for a while, it can be unnoticeable if one isn’t paying attention, then all the sudden they let go, and there you are.
Both of us have small sample sizes, and we may be replacing them at different points (you may be more aggressive at keeping them on the vehicle longer).
I’ve noticed the Toyota is just a little better made all around, on average. Better automatic transmissions, less squeaks/rattles once they get old, etc. again, small sample size, and we may disagree and that’s okay. Enjoy your vehicles.

It makes 186hp, just barely more than the last generation. However, the VCT and new head design makes for much better low end torque that makes the car feel MUCH faster.
That said, the one to have is the 6spd manual. I've got a '13 Sport 6spd with about 212k on the clock. Poor thing has been WOT most of its life and it just keeps ticking. Oil analysis looks good too!

You should look into getting a Rally Fighter. I think you'd keep it forever. I'd love to watch you do a detailed video on one. It's put together with all mismatched parts. Like the best of all car manufacturers put into 1 vehicle. Baja racer yet a daily driver.
Is that a timing chain, timing gears, or timing belt? If a belt, wise to do it at the same time. Interference engines are not so happy when the belt breaks. Good on you for looking after family. The one time I had a friend call me with something like this, it was a 200,000 mile 87 Grand Marquis with the 351. He's on a dirt road in the back of beyond. When I answer the phone, all I hear is "What's this noise?" Followed be a horrible screech. The air pump, with less than 100 miles on it, seized. Told him to cut that belt, since it only did his a/c compressor and air pump. Alternator and power steering on the other belt. Good times.
Also, having shift points in a CVT is ridiculous. The whole point of a CVT is to allow the engine to be at the most efficient revs for what is being asked while the transmission makes it happen. Plus the fake shifts are GARBAGE. (See the Ford thing) I rented one for a day because I needed air conditioning. I would sooner WALK that deal with that garbage.
If you think that water pump is easy, try my old Volvo. 20 minutes start to finish, including bleeding the cooling system. The timing belt and all the related things are still under an hour. Can't beat rear wheel drive for ease of repair.
