Sir Richard's son was Sir Robert Lee. Sir Robert's first son was Sir Anthony Lee, who married Margaret Wyatt, Anee Boleyn's chief Lady in waiting. Sir Anthony's son was Sir Henry Lee KG, Queen Elizabeth's Champion.
It is my hope Sir Richard was Prince Henry's tutor in the tiltyard. Info please. :-)
Arms - Argent, a fess between three crescents sable.
Sir Robert's younger son was Benedict Lee ( my 11 x GGF ), Captain of the royal guard, who led the party top fetch Anne of Cleeves from Calais.

He was a tormented tyrant. I don't condone what he did but I can see 2 sides of the story..
He had a terrible accident from jousting that he never really recovered from . He was in a lot of pain constantly, and under intense pressure to save his kingdom by having a male heir. France and Spain were often giving him concerns. I welcome anyone to go through what he went through and come away sweet tempered . Plus some historians wonder if he had brain damage from that jousting accident which would affect his personality too.

Doesn't excuse his unfaithfulness and cruelty to Katherine and his daughter before his accident but after Anne. He was a textbook narcissist. They are always wonderful to all but their chosen victims. Once they get bored or their supply is useless to them, they toss them aside and if they perceive them as a threat or a nuisance, they are cruel.

No wonder he felt in love with a younger woman who was obviously able becoming pregnant ! Catherine looked later very old and ugly according of being always pregnant and then giving birth to dead children except Mary! The term "narcissist" was known at those times! In the minute that is skipped over:
"So far, Henry, who rather disliked direct confrontation, had lacked the backbone with which to challenge his councilors head-on. Now Wolsey provided the backbone for him.
This is the document with which Wolsey began to free Henry from the thrall of his councilors. It's a signed bill, granting a Lincolnshire rectory, in itself, its nothing. The Devil is in the rubric, instructing the Chancellor to make the grant on the authority of the King's signature alone with no need for authentication by the Course of the Seals. This was to undermine the whole basis of the council's control of royal patronage, and Warham objected. But Wolsey, who presented the document in-person, smoothly responded that, 'such was the King's will'. This was unanswerable, and all Warham could do was to add an acid little note here, right at the bottom of the document. "Ut acer wit dictus dominus Wolsey", So said the aforementioned Master Wolsey. Wolsey had now shown that he could give Henry what Henry wanted, and what Henry wanted was war. (Forgive me if my Latin spelling is off)
With Wolsey supplying the means, all Henry lacked was the opportunity. It soon came when Pope Julius II and King Louis XII of France went to war over the Italian city states ruled by the Papacy. Invoking the spiritual weapons of the church, Julius excommunicated Louis and formed a Holy League of sympathetic countries to wage a crusade against infidel France."
And then it picks up again.

I was last in Westminster Abbey in November 1974 and there was barely anyone in there. American students were laying paper on top of grave stones and doing rubbings of their images. I recall being in an area where I saw a chair, I was completely alone and read the description as to what it was, it was the Coronation Chair, and complete with the "Stone of Scone" in it's base. I noticed that it had initials carved on it as and then i sat in it. Nobody was there, I could have carved my initials on it myself.

On what grounds do you make that proclamation? There are several living experts in the Tudor period, Starkey among them for certain. Some are quietly employed by, or recently retired from, various universities and actively research, publish, and teach aspects of Tudor history and culture at an extremely high level-they just happen not to have striven for a TV career and so are largely unknown by the general public. So settle down with the toadying encomium to ‘King Starkey’. It’s unbecoming.
