    Hi, great to watch your video. Here are all your doubts explained. The underground passage is to get to the other side, to avoid the traffic. We don't have the metro (subway), not for another ten years probably. SFRJ stands for what you said - the former Yugoslavia. The small Republic you didn't know was Montenegro, and the other one you didn't know is Vojvodina - an Autonomous Province in Serbia. We eat a lot of meat, yes. I think what you had was mashed potatoes and goulash. "Destroyed it", haha. Loved that one. Yes, the cars honking were for the wedding. They usually get noisy. These are Serbian flags - red-blue-white from top to bottom. The "state flag" has a coat of arms, the "people flag" is just a regular flag without the coat of arms. It is the opposite order of colors to the Russian flag, that may have gotten you confussed. Both flags are in use. Ideally, the "state flag" is supposed to be used only by the bodies of the state, but people use it also. The fountain is just regular tap water which you have in the hotel or apartment also. It's safe to drink. Republic Square it is. The Croats claim Nikola Tesla, but in 1991 they blew up his statue in Gospic, Croatia... and now they put him on the metal coins of the euro (the euro cents) issued by the Croatian National Bank. I hope my answers were helpful.

    A lot of people who come to Serbia first time and especially the Capitol Belgrade, gets a bit confused. Because a lot of anti Serbian foreign media has for ages brainwashed people to think Serbia is just muddy under developed roads with toothless old women driving horse wagons, with bad infrastructure and so on. I know once a Swede, ( cause I lived there almost my whole life) asked me if they have meat in Serbia.🤣🤣🤣😆. I said, you mean that tasteless plastic meat filled with water as they have in Sweden, no they don´t have that. Of course the farthead got offended by what I said.
    Hope you´ll have a great stay man... 😃😉 It´s a very cool city, and get to know someone, then you can explore the real Belgrade. It´s not that hard to get connected in Belgrade.

      @atomov 3 місяці тому +2

      There is no such thing as "anti Serbian foreign media". People just don't know anything about Serbia, apart from what they've seen during the '90ies wars and that was pretty gruesome. You should also be aware that outside toilets are quite common in some countries and that has nothing to do with Serbia. Since most people don't even know where Serbia is and they often mistake it for Syria and Siberia it is not uncommon for people to ask silly questions like do you have trees or is it really cold there?

    • @SerbAtheist
      @SerbAtheist 3 місяці тому +10

      @@DavidJohnAr It's not 'upside down'. The red-blue-white tricolor has been a symbol of the Serbian state and Serbian people since the middle of the 19th century.
      The more precise explanation for the 2 types of flags is that the flag with the coat of arms is the state flag and ensign and the flag without the coat of arms is the civil flag and ensign, but in practice, the coat of arms flag has de facto also taken over this role, leaving the coat-less flag to symbolize the Serbian people. The coat-less version is also the official flag of the Republic of Srpska, one of the two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

    Great video! Hi from a Belgradian :) That was Republic square, with the great monument in the center or the square. Revolution square is a bit further away. We are Christian ortodox. We light candles in the upper part with prayers for our dear ones to be healthy, in piece, and in the lower part for the ones who are no longer with us, so they have their peace in heaven. St. Sava temple is second largest temple or a church in the world. If you decide to pay a visit to it, go to the underground floor, where it is magical to witness the beauty it holds.
    The two countries you couldn't remember are Montenegro and Vojvodina. Many Serbs and other nationalities, for that matter, visit the amazing Montenegrian coast, seaside every year. Cheers to your positive outlook on our city, where you can find many beauties. It is also a hometown of The Great Novak Djokovic. He owns a restaurant in New Belgrade, maybe you should pay a visit to it too. :)
    As a woman born in Belgrade, I say this was a great video, full of positivity and i wanted to pay my respects by answering to some of your questions, but also to the fact you read some history prior to your visit. Enjoy your stay. :)

    I literally can't believe that you found yourself in front of the second largest Orthodox church in the world (and by many standards, the largest) without going inside for even a minute, if nothing else you see the magnificent and largest mosaics in the world.
    It would be like walking past the Sistine Chapel and not even looking at it, and a lot of people come to the Vatican just for it :(
    But I sincerely hope that you will have the opportunity to be in front of the Church of St. Sava again and this time look inside, if not for any religious reasons, then certainly at least for artistic reasons.

    @6:40 - Flags you see without emblem are for civilian use, and is exactly the same as Russian flag, just upside down. State flag (as in government use) has a an emblem, like one you saw a minute after, that is on offices of a national bank building. and national museum a bit later - a white two-headed eagle, also similar with Russian coat of arms, except we have "ocilo" (traditional Serbian symbol, cross and four "C"), while Russians have St. George on horse instead.
    As for Tesla, he was a Serb, yes, and at that time Croatia didn't exist, it was Austrro-Hungary. Later on,. Croats killed between 81 and 90 Tesla's relatives in his hometown, on basis of religion (Nikola's father was an Orthodox priest) and hatred towards Serbs, leaving total of 500+ slaughtered, including 27 babies before babtism, and 135 children, and also leaving no Teslas left in his place of birth. To say Nikola Tesla has anything to do with Croats is beyond sacrelige, hypocrisy and pure inquisition, Nazi evil of what Croatia is founded on.

    Hello Sly,
    Regarding the religion question 12:12
    Yes, Serbs are in majority Orthodox Christians.
    The place for candles is meant for both, the dead and living.
    At the top you light candles for the living.
    At the bottom you light candles for the dead.
    So, you must light a separate candle for the living and for the dead.
    Each candle you light represents one individual.

It is a little confusing, but you can actually say who is financing which institution by flags, and which institution is it.
