I think Erin’s reason was similar to Ant’s reason for trapping. Although different backgrounds, they both fell for the glamour of it all. A lot of us no matter our backgrounds loved trap music back then and wore street clothes and spoke the slang back then which came from the hood. Even though she saw that we weren’t only from the hood, she felt I guess she wasn’t a real sista. Maybe someone checked her once for being “bougie” or this was a form of rebellion because she felt her parents forgot their past. 🤷🏽‍♀️

She wasn’t New New from the “hood”. It was a persona. Which ain’t nun wrong with that but she still lied & withheld information she didn’t have to . Yeah she tried to tell him after the fact her dad pulled up and he told her that she ain’t have to hide nothing from him the night of that party . I mean in the end he forgave her and they were together as he narrates in the ending of the movie. I mean it’s just a movie but yknow.

New New gets on my nerves and I’m disappointed that Rashad who was the most important main character never got to know her father. I wish there was a scene where he did get to know Keith Davids character John Garnett. Only Esquire was knowing him the whole time. Both Big Boi and Keith David were my most favorite actors from the movie. Big Boi from Outkast played a great bad guy. This movie is definitely For the Nostalgia (see how I did that, lol)!
And one that I guessed correctly from last week. I haven’t seen this movie in years and even though I barely clubbed in the 2000s, the music is what did it for me. The only thing I can say is as much as you want to help others, you can’t help them if they don’t want it. Esquire was really cute (all that melanin)! It kind of reminded me of another movie you reviewed (Jason’s Lyric) but more authentic when it comes to the accents. You pretty much said it all so good review!
As for next week’s recap, all I’ll do is wait. I tried sooo hard to think about the hints and couldn’t come up with my answer.

Sheesh this takes me back. I think I was a HS sophomore. Early 2000s were special. 😊 A lot of stuff wasn’t recorded like you said. Soundtracks really are like time machines. I wouldn’t want to be a teen again, but I wouldn’t mind going back to 18/19 for a few hours. 😂

ATL is to Atlanta as what Boyz N The Hood is to South Central & it’s one of the few coming of age movies not based in Chicago, LA or New York & it’s also one of the few coming of age movies that has a happy ending. It was released during the crunk music era. You forgot to put the pop up icon on Tasha Smith & Lonette McKee. Everytime i go to my hometown of Alabama i fly into Atlanta & when i’m heading home i listen to Georgia by Field Mob featuring Ludacris & Jamie Foxx & here comes the fun facts: This movie was directed by Chris Robinson who directed music videos for artists such as Snoop Dogg & T.I. & was based off of T-Boz’ & Dallas Austin’s life experience. Evan Ross is the son of Diana Ross & the brother of Traci Ellis Ross. He said majority of the lines were adlibed. Big Boi & Jackie Long were also in Idlewild, Jason Weaver & Jackie Long were also in Love For Sale & T.I. Big Boi were also in The Trap. Next week’s recap is Ride.

I was at Spelman when this movie came out. To be fair, there were a lot of privileged Black girls and boys (Morehouse) cosplaying as "hood." I knew a few of them who went as far as selling nicks and dimes of weed, and would say things like "my parents are rich - I'm not" 🙄😂 I was from Bedstuy Brooklyn so, like Jackie Long, I saw through all of the performances, but unfortunately this was a thing that did happen.
Fun fact: the "dorm" they pull up to in the end is actually our financial aid building on campus called Packard Hall. 😂😂 I get it though, it is one of the more architecturally interesting buildings to look at on campus as far as the dorms go 💙💁🏾‍♀️
