    Hey mate, pull the lining out of the Cooper Pedy, this helps the heat. I have the Banjo Patterson, pulled the lining out, very much improved for heat escaping.

      Thought of that but I quite like the lining, the hat became my winter hat instead.

    Nice to finally find a video that shows a longer, in-the-field look and review on the Avalon. Can't find a lot about this hat but looks good on you. I also have a Cattleman that I'm glad I pulled the lining out of, and an Angler that I left the liner in so I only use seasonally here in California.

    I bet the Avalon won't last as long. The cotton band will wear and rot over time. Great video. Thank you & thumbs up!

    I wear a Banjo Patterson fall and winter and a hemp Range for summer on walk-a-bouts in town. The leather bands are great and provide an excellent fit but I removed the liner in the Banjo. I find that it made my bald head sweat because it doesn’t breathe. I have never conditioned the sheep leather bands but I wear them often so the oils from my skin probably keep them conditioned. My Banjo is knocking on five years old and the Range maybe three, both live on hat racks in my truck/RV while modern day Waltzing Matilda. The Banjo has seen many rain and snow storms. There’s is no evidence of cracking or deterioration to either band but the graphics are completely worn away. I wear a Double H (Darby, Montana) palm cowboy hat that can be dunked in a stream or soaked by other means when working or recreating when it is real hot.

    Akubra are great hats. Coober pedy is my summer hat due to breathing holes. I have an older Snowy river that I totally reshaped and customized that is more of a cold weather hat. Coober pedy looks sharp as hell with a feather in the band, and the back flipped up!

    I've got a Snowy River and an Adventurer (Indiana Jones hat). Both are lined. I've worn my Snowy River for years and although it looks great, its really hot to wear. I bought it for hiking in the hot Southern California summers but found its just too damn hot. The leather band does stick to my head and even though I bought a Stampede String I took it off because it always got in the way. My Snowy River also shrank. I wear a sz. 57 but it's definitely not a 57 anymore. I have to keep it on a hat stretcher every time I take it off or it is way too tight. I bought my Adventurer in sz 58 and use hat fillers. So far it hasn't shrunk but I don't wear it as often. Upon reading a hat forum I pulled out the lining on my Snowy River (it was old and rotten anyway) and it made a HUGE difference. It breathes way way better and I can wear it all day without getting too hot. Wish I would have done that years ago. Lined Akubra hats are great for looks, but it intend to get them dirty and wear the shit out of them, stick with the unlined versions, just my two cents. Great video, explains alot.

      Thanks Anthony. Yeah definitely, the liner inside looks great but keeps the hat very hot.

    The lining is easily removed/reinstalled in the akubra hats. Provides more comfort and versatility. I enjoyed your video.

      But I'm not sure if it comes out easily on the models with eyelet vents. I have no experience with those.

    Hi
    Great vid
    What do you recommend with Sizing on the Cooperpedy? My measurements are are 57 with a tape measure, should I go a 58 or 59?
    Thanks

      Go for 58. You can always add some soft padding behind the leather sweat band. Too big and the padding begins to crest the leather. S as long as you don’t leave the hat inside your car during summer it shouldn’t shrink that bad.

      I have several coober pedy hats.one has lining the other two I pulled the lining out. And it works better in California on the hottest days keeps my bald head safe from the sun

    A cotton sweat band will leave sweat stains on the base of the crown and inside edge of the brim. I have one hat with a cloth sweat band. One summer and it was ruined with stains and salt deposts on the outside. Never again.
    Get a straw hat for summer wear. Don't blow money on a felt hat with a make believe cotton sweat band that will soak up the sweat and pass it on to the hat leaving some ugly stains and salt deposits. Get a hat designed for summer wear

      Or just get a hat with a leather band and no lining.

    You wear both hats in the summer? What temps?

    • @akubraandwhatnot8084
      @akubraandwhatnot8084  3 роки тому +1

      Mate here in far north Australia, temp can get up to 35-40 degree Celsius with humidity. It can get very hot, I forgot to mention that sometimes when the humidity is really high I would wear a bandana underneath just to protect the hat from sweat, easier to wash a bandana than a hat. 👍🏽

      @@akubraandwhatnot8084 you mean the coober pedy is very hot to wear? And the avalon is comfortable in that heat? Why didn't you get a cattleman? That seems to be their most popular hat.

    • @akubraandwhatnot8084
      @akubraandwhatnot8084  3 роки тому +3

      @@bryandovbergman5654 the cattleman is unlined just like the Avalon which helps to its breathability, it’s a nice hat but it’s too popular for me. Everybody has it. I recently bought a Plainsman which is similar to cattleman but with a pork pie crown.

    Why would anyone wear felt in the summer?

    • @heinrichb
      @heinrichb 2 місяці тому

      Shade is shade, insulation is insulation. Provided you have no lining and breathing holes, it will cool your head all the same.
