Don't blame the host, there were lots of bratty young chicks with that stupid name in the late 80's/90's, and they would get butt-hurt when someone didn't use the "correct" pronounciation. Kristen, Kersten, Kearsten, blah blah blah.
If Remote Control was the warning siren, I'd say the debut of The Real World was the point of no return. We still had Post Modern, Unplugged, and the international expansions happening for the next few years. And you did have that MTV channel embedded within the game, and the bonus round did involve videos.
