    I can guess that most people who think this is "weird" haven't taken a sketch class. It's a pretty regularly suggested grip. Doesn't work for everybody, but some people swear by it. It's supposed to help remove some of the jitter from lines, and help make smoother curves.

      I've seen people recommend holding it kind of horizontally to the page, never seen this grip before.
      Honestly, my policy is just "use whatever works." I wouldn't mind trying this one out one day, lol.

    Excellent!
    Several times I have wanted to demonstrate Erik's grip to someone but never had a good example. How was I missing this the last few years?! =oD

    Erik Larsen is one of the nicest guys in comics! He always draws quick sketches for his fans and will answer questions without fail! The Savage Dragon has been my favorite title since I was 12 in 1992.
    Oh, yeah. His grip IS fucking weird. Ha ha.

    Reminds me of Marty Friedman's picking style when he plays guitar. Definitely unorthodox
