I've seen some people holding the pen that way over the years and a few slight variations and yeah... I've always found it odd. But turns out that it is a lot easier on your wrists compared to the traditional way, specially if you're going to draw for hours and hours like these guys have to.
I bet he wishes he did a little more elaborate piece considering the other artists who've done videos for SYFY WIRE. It's like a quick throw up to graffiti artists who are doing full pieces. That's his signature character/title and that's all he shows?
I love the first 3 or 4 years of Savage Dragon (art wise) but i think he has started sliding down the Frank Miller path. Where his style and dedication to expediency has overtaken his art, to the point it's a husk of what it used to be.
Whoa, the odd way he holds the pen!

Rogerio Pereira da Silva looks like it’d be good against smudging as well.
@@RogerioPereiradaSilva77 quem desenha assim também ?
Only he and John Romita Jr hold it like this!
John Romita Jr. doesn't draw like that.
Detroit has Robocop, but chicago has The Dragon
Very weird way of handling a pencil... I like it!
Very loose sketch but the iconic character design shines through.
Erik comes across as a really nice, enthusiastic guy
cant imagine drawing for a liviung for 30 years and need to pencil ever
Whatever happened to the Syfy wire anyway?
Broccoli boy🌸
After years and years drawing like that, the tip of his middle finger has gone completely flat.
Wait rly? I didn't notice in the vid
It hurts me to see how he holds the pen
Everybody has a style
