1. I use a rail guide which makes it much smoother and easier. 2. Don’t go too slow while cutting, the blade could start melting the plexiglass if you don’t move quick enough. I’m using a 80 tooth blade.
I recently used this technique to build new fixed ports on my boat from 1/4" acrylic sheet and it worked very well. To get the edges real clean and dead on accurate in some areas I used a router and top bearing trim bit guided by a straight edge.
I did turn my blade around like Brian said, I also used soapy water to cut 1/2 inch Plexy glass. It worked the way it was intended. Used a electric hand planner to clean the edges, worked perfect.
What brand of plexiglass did you use in this video? At min 3:23, you mentioned that due to this brand, you could cut straight through without cracking it, otherwise you would've needed to make cuts on both ends and meet in the middle. Thanks!
I have sheets of 1/4 inch used plexiglass that i want to make some window inserts for inside my home to keep out cold air in winter months. Will the circular saw cut used without messing it up or busting it? I love this video as I also use to cut 1/8 inch with a utility knife marking it over and over again and the knife always slips and makes scratches. Thank you.
Great video presentation perfect I'm about to cut a big piece of plexiglass and in ought a new blade just wanted to double check any secrets from breaking the plexiglass. Thanks good luck on your UA-cam video s
This video helped me cuz i was going to use a jigsaw but had to buy the blades and now I don't. I practice on a scrap of plexiglass with my diablo saw. 👍
I think the tape on top of the cutting surface stops the semi melted material from adhering to the piece. It comes and sits on the tape, can't reweld it never retouches the material. just a thought. bob semper fi great video thanks. [ years ago early 80's I tried to put a large piece of plexiglass pretty thick through a table saw by my self.... It stored up a "bunch" of energy and Jumped up off the table and I shoved it out of the way of the blade. Lucky I was not hurt, and material only chipped a corner off, but wholly cow, I found Jesus.
Brian, Where have you been? Wondering what happened to you. Great video by the way !! How is the tool box holding up? My friend Pete finally moved to Moab Two months ago as a permanent resident . I just bought myself a Circular Saw but could only get a standard crosscut blade of 185mm 7 1/4" with 60 teeth. It says it's for cutting all types of wood. Is this blade suitable for cutting 3mm thick plexiglass sheet?
You can always put painters tape on the metal saw guide/ slide thing. I do it when cutting finished woods and it works great. Same as for your table saw top.
"...without any special tools..." except a jig saw with specialized plexiglass-cutting blades, and a rotary hand saw also with a specialized carbon blade made for cutting plexiglass. Hm.
if you put a strip of painters tape on either side before you make your line and cut it will come out even better because the shrapnel wont chip your 90s on the cut
That’s the question I was after. I usually use masking tape when cutting plexi to avoid scratching it, but figured it may not be necessary after watching this video. Thanks for clearing that up. 👍🏼 Now it’s time to go cut into a 4x8 sheet of tinted 1/2” for my new side “glass” windows on the Baja boat :-)
I see everyone mentioning circular saw or table saw but never a miter (chop) saw...is this due to sheet size? I have a small sheet 12"x12"....can I use a miter saw? The blade and cutting mechanism is the same as the aforementioned tools.
1/4" acrylic - jigsaw might crack it if you aren't fully clamped down. Scoring and snapping on a clapped straight edge is less nerve-wracking. Half inch, I'd go with a circular saw with a quality blade.
A lot of creators are now using clickbait type intro lines for viewing numbers. It is going to eventually ruin the basis of UA-cam and turn it into nothing more than one giant Infomercial platform! It's already starting to head that way!
@@happg2320 Absolutely true. First thing you do when you buy a new saw is to junk the 20-tooth blade and install a 60- or 80-tooth blade. It makes for easier and better cuts even in rough lumber like 2"x 4"s.

With all these comments, how are we not talking about how he tightened the blade with an impact
Saw that one , too. Rofl
This is the comment I was looking for
That's because it was plexiglas. Had that been wood, he would have gotten in trouble.
probably because it made no difference to the saws operation or to the content of this video...
I thought the same thing.
Thaaaaank you. I've had a chipping problem the other times I tried cutting. Gonna clamp from now on.
that's how i do it. i always like to see if there's a better way.......never stop learning....
this is a BIG HELP!!. I have tried with a knife cutter and it is frustrating.
Great video, this is roughly how I do it, except I install the blade on the circular saw backwards and go slow, one long cut.
Thanks for sharing this video and information very helpful !
I have also heard that if you reverse the blade. Flip it around so that it runs backwards. Somehow that makes an even cleaner cut
Thanks for this great video. How about using a hole saw to make circular plates from plexiglass--is that better or worse compared to the jigsaw?
Wanted to double check. Thanks for the upload.
Diamond grit metal cutting blades work nicely as do thin kerf abrasive discs.

Can you cut some few acrylic sheets on demand for me? I need to do like 4 boxes
For some , the sawtooth is a special tool!
Can you use a wet saw for Plexiglass?
What brand is your big blue tool box?? I don't think I have ever seen that logo.
How thick is the plexiglass that you are cutting? Will this work with 1/8" plexiglass?
I would take the blade and turn it backwards just like you do with vinyl siding.
Good straight forward video, no bs. Thanks for the help... and, it's especially. Not expecially.
did you keep the plastic sheets on the plexiglass as you were cutting it or was it taken off?
Always keep the protective sheet in place while working. As was the case in these videos.
Ty.....you save me a lot of time
Will this work on quarter inch thick plexiglass?
How is the clarity of the home depot glass ? Have gotten some elsewhere that looked wavey
I like it. This will be the way I will go. Thank you for a good & brief how-to video.

Well, that is a special tool for me.

Wouldn’t the circular saw melt the plexiglass as it cuts through???
will any saw blade(wood cutting blade) work ?
If using a wood blade, needs to be a fine tooth wood blade.
Did you use a guide for the saw?
I sound stuped. But can I cut a acrylic sheet with a glass cutter?
