    This channel is NOT Mark Lewisohn's personal UA-cam channel.
    But since Mark Lewisohn is indeed the greatest world-renowned and world-recognised Beatles historian and expert - most notably since his 1988 best-seller "The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions" - we thought the man deserved a beautiful reference interviews channel !...
    ... So this channel is like a homage to Mark Lewisohn and a reference channel for his master subject The Beatles, almost like a public service kind of channel if you like !... This channel will be like a free and "un-monetized" central platform aimed at any english speaking Beatles student around the planet, and it will patiently collect and centralize all interviews and significant radio/podcast/video appearances Mark Lewisohn has made anywhere in the world, usually scattered around dozens of different sites and platforms on the internet, onto one single central channel for reference without monetizing its videos, for this is a purely educational reference channel for the connoisseurs, without any commercial nor business goal of any sort.
    Therefore this "Mark Lewisohn - A Beatles Historian" channel is indeed a good deed !
    SO PLEASE NOTE THREE IMPORTANT THINGS :
    A) None of these videos will ever be monetized so we're not robbing anybody here,
    B) A nice & gracious link to the original beloved source/podcast will of course always appear right underneath the video with the original source full name, and
    C) An UNCENSORED version of this Mark Lewisohn channel, ie. with all the missing interviews that were either blocked or taken down by UA-cam, is and will always be available there bit.ly/3IpYjWf

    Mark Lewisohn has professionally studied the Beatles since the late '70s. Mark has worked for Paul McCartney himself from 1986 to 2001, for the Beatles' own company Apple Corps from 1991 to 1998, and has also collaborated with the surviving members for the enormous 1995 autobiographical "Anthology" project...
    But beyond his extraordinary books and even beyond the Beatles themselves (!), listening to Mark Lewisohn talking about the Fab Four during those long conversations with various Beatles fans, Beatles experts and Beatles students from all around the world, is indeed a fascinating and informative experience in itself. It is a vibrant and breathtaking experience because it is like listening to a series of rich in-depth lectures on what life used to be like in the Western World after World War II, during the 1950s and obviously during the great legendary 1960s.
    Hence the existence of this channel.
    Mark Lewisohn's "ALL THOSE YEARS" Beatles historical biography that Beatles fans already casually call "THE THREALOGY BOOKS" :

    What you're saying near the end is so true...they may have been the MOST experienced and seasoned Rock act in the 60's or 70's and beyond for that matter to ever sign a recording contract..this was no " boy band" or fabricated confection. The Beatles were pros in every sense of the word.

    Interesting interview! One of the questions I have been waiting to hear Mark asked is why neither Kim Bennett or Sid Coleman of Ardmore & Beechwood appear to have attempted to make any contact with Brian Epstein to let him know of the efforts they - particularly Kim - went to in order to get the songs they bought recorded, which was the reason why George Martin was 'instructed' to send a contract to The Beatles before even seeing them - as per Mark's very interesting revelation in Tune In. Surely one of them should have been at Abbey Rd on their first session in June 1962 to meet them and tell them 'it was us that got you here'. !

    LOVE listening to M. Lewisohn. Liking his credit that they did get themselves to the brink of fame with Pete. A nice way of saying it. And Pete's lack of eye contact? There is no video of them with Pete to prove or disprove. Cannot debate his "front line" mention however!

    British comedian Jasper Carrott made the jibe about Ringo not being the best drummer in the Beatles, not John Lennon. Being ignorant or just looking for a cheap laugh, Carrott was wrong. Ringo was a great drummer. McCartney can drum, but only up to a certain standard.

      Hi, I think it is pretty recently recorded, judging from the comments Mark has made in the interview, for instance, he has referred to 2020 being the anniversary of the origin of the name "Beatles"....its like he is talking in the present day, but having said that, I think its pre Corona virus period. But your comment is extremely valid👍
      I cannot wait for the next installment.😉👍

    I bought 'The Complete Beatles Chronicle' in 1998, the year before I turned 40. It was in a reduced bookshop in the Arndale Centre Manchester, and I although I had got 'into' the Beatles as a story, just before the Anthology happened, I actually pondered whether or not to buy it, rushing back the next week hoping there was a copy left. What the hell was I thinking!?

    What irritates me is the - Beatles Historian - and 'With Richard Courtney (March 2020)' captions don't seem to be central to the graphic of the audio display... or is it that the small photograph of Mark is off centre??? If we say that the reduced UA-cam screen is 316mm wide, then the central point should be at 158mm. On that basis, it would seem that the photo of Mark is central to the screen but the two captions are slightly more to the left than they are the right. In my second book which is due out in 2033, I will explain why I find this anomaly a tad disturbing.

    Great conversation! I would argue, though, that the Beach Boys also qualify as a self contained rock band, particularly in that period. Their recording career predates the Beatles by a slight margin....

    • @lynnturman8157
      @lynnturman8157 4 роки тому +2

      Actually they weren't self-contained. Not in the same way the Beatles were. The Wrecking Crew played on Beach Boy recordings.

    • @michaelneary2906
      @michaelneary2906 4 роки тому +3

      The Wrecking Crew did play on the Beach Boys recordings of the mid 60' as the music became more complex, although Carl still played guitar on most of the music. During this early period that Mark is talking about, though, the Beach Boys played on their records. I would agree that aside from Brian and maybe Carl, the Beatles were better musicians and that's why Brian needed the Wrecking Crew to fully realize his music. The Beach Boys also did not have a George Martin to produce them - Brian himself took that role. Pretty impressive for that time! Regardless, I love both bands and I wish I was alive when all that great music was coming out!

    • @allenf.5907
      @allenf.5907 3 роки тому

      @@michaelneary2906 It was a great time when the recordings came out - SPECIAL when the singles and albums were released. Two incredible musical "machines" - Beatles and Beach Boys. BOTH also hard-working touring bands. A VERY large reason that Brian needed the Wrecking Crew - not only for their brilliant playing, but recording while the band was touring. Always busy - Beatles & Beach Boys.

      @Michael H. Not sure the exact timing of the interview but the interviewer does not know about the books regarding the Beatles before "Sessions" which Mark downs at the present day,, he didnt do what ever decent presenter does.....research research research!
      80% prep 20% presentation. Even I knew he wrote for a small magazine, (now gone unfortunately), called "Beatles Now" and from that magazine Sean O'Mahony from the much Lamented Beatles Monthly took him on board, and rightly so! " the only place in the world in the late 50's and early 60's with a rock and roll scene, the only place, ... could turn professional and play 7 nights week for money, was Liverpool."
    Well if you restrict it to 7 nights a week' it cancels out all of Southern California from San Diego to Santa Barbara during the time. But, I'll argue that Country Rock (Electric C&W) in Bakersfield fit that to a T, play every night electric country music for pay and go pro. Orange County may not have been 7 nights a week but Dick Dale was playing rock in the Balboa Rendezvous Ballroom to sold out 3000 paying customers each night on weekends, far more that a full week of Cavern gigs. The Beatles didn't get that many in one gig until the hits came several years later. Dale was making a living at it by 1958 and created Surf Rock in 1961. Dale had a #4 hit in LA and #60 Billboard hit in 1961 with "Let's Go Trippin'", was on Ed Sullivan years before the Beatles. And there were all the Surf Bands that followed in the OC/LA area and many went pro when they had records out, all this before the Beatles hit.
    I'll argue that the rock music business was far bigger than anyone imagines at that time in So Cal. Lots of record companies and lots of recording studios made it the music center of the US at that time.
    Edit: I left out Hamburg as Tony Sheridan himself was pro, amongst others, and playing 6 nights a week well before the Beatles ever got there. It was another R&R scene that was the equal to Liverpool.

    • @mark9058
      @mark9058 Рік тому

      I take take issue with that statement as Lewishon has set the goal posts to make sure it can't be contested, but it is true not as in the SoCal area at that time there was a scene more vital, longer lasting Rock Scene than the Mersey scene; Surf. Dick Dale started Surf music and while there was not a 7-nights a week venue there was weekly venues up and down the coast where one could learn one's craft and get paid money, record records and turn pro.. No way that the recording output of LA and the So Cal scene could Liverpool measure up to that. No way Liverpool could

      Steven Davis - 100% correct - he will not finish - An inevitable solution is that Lewisohn's research will be used for another author or team of authors to finish the job - This job is too much for one guy and Lewisohn is too detailed and too pig headed to understand this - you can't spend fourty years on a book - it isn't feasible - Plus - the guy is 62 years old and actuarial speaking - there is a finite limit to the amount of time he will have his mental faculties

    Mark Lewisohn is a fantastic researcher and a major authority on the Beatles - However - he is neither a music theorist or musician - So - volume one was perfectly tailored to Mark's strengths - Volume two and three not so much - The focus on recordings and music is really important - and Mark doesn't have the skill-set to do a half decent job on that - His ego-specific delusions of grandeur being able to do everything himself with no help is really insanity !

    Why is Mark Lewisohn even doing stuff like this in 2020? A fairly meaningless interview with some guy from "Hippie Radio" who hasn't bothered doing elementary research. Procrastination? • @lonedrone
      @lonedrone 4 роки тому +1

      @@jamesbrady8535 That I can understand the 7 years research and 3 years writing for Tune In, but that book covered a lot of years, and no one had really dug very deep into the pre-Beatles history before. Also, his research and interviews he conducted during those 7 years surely also covered the years 63-66, at least to an extent. The 2nd book deals with the Beatlemania years that have been covered over and over countless times. Sure, a million things happened during those years, but at the same time they were in a bubble and every move they made was print worthy. All the people close to the Beatles during those years are long gone, and Paul and Ringo are not in any way involved. By the time the 3rd book comes out basically everyone who was there will be gone. It's not Lewisohn's fault, but a project like this should have been started about 20 years earlier, when key people were still around. I think Mark is having problems writing this book. He has no real sources, and by his own admission he's not interested in hearing old peoples often warped recollections. He likes dusty forgotten archives. But I fear he's not going to find much covering these years. I hope I'm wrong.
