I got to see these guys in concert in 93 at The Warner Theatre in Washington DC, absolutely the best concert I have ever seen, and because I worked there I was able to get all of there autographs including Russ Freeman, Jeff Kashiwa told me I should consider myself lucky as Russ signs very few autographs
I once snuck into their sound check at the Wyndham Hotel in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico, in 2001. I got autographs from everyone; and then went to their concert. It was the only and best fan experience I've ever had.
To play an instrument and read notes remember cords is very difficult and is a gift from them to us to appreciate and so I really appreciate them for all they go through and do.
There is so much talent out there and it can be dizzying. But Russ has a note choice and a chord progression library that is second to none. He is a monster in the soft jazz venue, and he does it with expression, passion, grace, and virtuosity that is hard to find. You are a giant Russ. Thanks!
I had the opportunity of seeing these guys in person sooooooo many times and believe me they are all what they seem to be, freakin' genius. Kim is my fav for personal reasons.... :o)
Saw Steve Reid around '03 in Asbury Park at the Cartarret. He played in a small ball room with the rest of the Rippingtons minute Russ Freeman. Played for about 2 hours. Good show!
A band like the Rippingtons hits a peak when all the talent is combined in one place, space and time. This is an example of that fusion of talent at it's best. Sadly, although the band the Rippingtons are still around, they don't have near the fire of this past collection of artist who made the Ripingtons such a distinct and enjoyable sound.
I love Jazz, especially with these guys. I love em as much as I love Donald Fagen, he's just awesome - anyone here his newest album Sunken Condos yet? It just came out last week!
in this video it is Jeff Kashiwa. others include Kenny G, Brandon Fields, Dave Coz, Paul Taylor, and recently Eric Marienthal and now Jeff Kashiwa is playing with them again. I have missed someone out who's name I cannot remember at the moment.
According to Russ, this acoustic guitar is some off brand made guitar. As a matter of fact he says there's no way to even find out who the maker was. Nevertheless, it sounds better than some of the top of the line acoustics he has bought. It's his favorite acoustic.
I voted this thumbs up because you mentioned my favorite jazz musicians. Then I kept reading. Sorry, music (especially smooth jazz, IMO) and politics do not mix. Spoils the vibe, badly.
The Rippingtons are one of the pillars of the Smooth Jazz Genre and set a high bar that only a few of the really good groups can reach!!
Better times. Better music.

No words the song and this group is beyond amazing. This song takes me back to simpler times when life wasnt as hard and difficult. LOVE IT

Russ Freeman is one of the greatest guitarists of any style of music. The ripps are a great concert must see!
My favorite jazz group, I get some serious stress release from their music going back to the 80's
One of their most beautiful songs in my opinion, the name definitely coincides with the feel of the song
We’ve seen them live five times and their music never gets stale as it evolves over time with all the improvisation.
Steve Reid is something else, what a great song.
This is the only group that I will buy the new cd before even listening to one song, I have 12 of their cd's I need to catch up and get the rest
I love the Rippingtons!! They're so musically conscious and smooth
They create hypnotic magic!
Yes! The Rippingtons & Foreplay both.
My top 2 Smooth Jazz groups
My personal favorite, but many other songs of theirs are a close second. Thanks.
Amazing ! Their music is timeless ....
masters of smooth sounds of yesterday, today n tomorrows to endless XX's
Real Smooth Jazz at it's best, loved these tracks now and when they first came out. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful Song To Russ Freeman & The Rippingtons

I saw The Rippingtons in Austin Texas about 10 years ago and they were amazing!! Going to See Al Demiola January 2010 in Austin, can't wait.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!

Lucky enough to see them twice just great.

R.I.P. Smooth Jazz CD 101.9 NYC
I like the acoustic part at the end of the song
Melody. Feel. Groove. Ripp's have it all.
They need to release this show on DVD/BD
amazing band!!!
yes one of my favorite cd's....great song.
Uma noite no Brazil ☺
Love the way kash switches sax's.
Truly a well-defined smooth jazz music
that last guitar solo
one of the best smooth jazz band!
I agree, their sound really takes you away. I love the fact that they are so melodic and it's not all about "shredding" all the time. IMHO...
I love Jazz, especially with these guys. I love em as much as I love Donald Fagen, he's just awesome - anyone here his newest album Sunken Condos yet? It just came out last week!
Perfect time capsule music for 1990s.
Super great! what a delight!!!
Awesome!
One of their best songs, but there are many more that I also like.
Steve Reid adds much depth to this song.
4:35~beautiful!!!
very well said

Amazing
also wjjz here in philly. i used to listen to 101.9 a lot
On top of thier game here. But i miss a percussionist in the ripps of today. Curves Ahead will not sound the same if they even still play it on tour.
Smooooove!!!!!!
Perfecto.
4:39 - 5:06 the best part of the whole song and fantastic acoustic playing from the man himself
Russ demonstrates what an awesome jazz instrument a classical guitar is.
MY uncle. :) Right now his wife (my aunt) is actually staying over my house cuz shes doing stuff here in Florida. :)
i wish someone would put up tracks from the St. James album, but this is great
@rainlvr1 I totally agree. Every song sounds just like the title. BTW I have never been to Brazil either, but I can picture it.
Wot can I say.. a music inspired by a brazilian night only could be this good...
Visit Brazil.
2014 World Cup
2016 Rio Olympics
Russ Freeman, the main guy of the group...
How fragile we are.
I always liked Jeff Kashiwa on sax, he seems to gel with Russ the best.
Steve Reid is such a genius.
I would love to have heard Russ Freeman and Chet Atkins perform together
According to Russ, this acoustic guitar is some off brand made guitar. As a matter of fact he says there's no way to even find out who the maker was. Nevertheless, it sounds better than some of the top of the line acoustics he has bought. It's his favorite acoustic.
Russ Freeman! ;)
Steve Reid is the best in the world!!!
I've seen 5 of them and I think they could do a much better job with concerts. They are so much better than their concerts are!
When mullets make you a better musician
I voted this thumbs up because you mentioned my favorite jazz musicians. Then I kept reading. Sorry, music (especially smooth jazz, IMO) and politics do not mix. Spoils the vibe, badly.
@jodygrind69 haha, yeah don't drive to this, it's for not driving
Why hasn't Russ Freeman got a knighthood ?
Can we not have politics on this thread? PLEASE?
Romney vs. Frankenstein (Obama)
Put simply, better the devil you don't know. Vote Romney.
Very fine music
