What luck we had historically that the 2 most awesome and beautiful Texans ever built actually got to work shoulder to shoulder with each other, at least for a short time. Stunning layout and models too.
With all the visual detail, you artistically, have shown here, it was only when someone else pointed out the 3 rail tracks that I even noticed that, so that being said, all your excellent workma ship enables one to ignore the 3 rail tracking !!!!!!! Stupendous Job, simply remarkable !!!!!
I've stated this before, but I'll say it again anyway, with the well defined shadows, it is a salute to your Lighting expertise as well !!!! Fantastic.....
Although in completely different dimensions, style and eras, both this channel and Central Los Andes have definitely changed my concept of railroad modelling. Through them I've learnt that attention to detail has nothing to do with money (though it may help a lot), but with art itself. Neither space nor cash will ever give you the gift of an artistic observation of reality. Thanks a lot for such beautiful work!
Norm, this is yet one more stunning example of your master modeling and cinematographer skills! I love the weathering of your 5011 and rolling stock, the tremendous realism of your layout terrain, structures, and vehicles, and of course the sound effects. You have captured and frozen in time the nostalgic America of my youth, and preserved it for a modern audience to experience and appreciate in a way that old film footage and Winston Link stills can't. It was wonderful to see you at York last week. I am a great admirer of your work! Bear Owen
Absolutely gorgeous! The ATSF 2-10-4 Texas type is a beast! I am a fan of the PRR J1, but the ATSF steamer is a monster. Agreed 100%: your weathering skills are second to none.
@@normstrains thank you! I would love to film your model trains on real film, that would look awesome, but I'm located on the other side of the Atlantic.
Sandusky, Ohio was the destination of these SF 2-10-4s at the end of their useful lives. And, yes, they were coal haulers. Good stuff here as usual, Norm.
Love the attention to detail here, the weathering of the trains and cars, the weathering of all the structures, right down the the rust on the barrels. Not to mention the aged stains on the concrete and even the simple cracks in the concrete. Very, Very lifelike .. Excellent Workmanship !!!
This is an incredibly detailed project that captures realism on a grand scale. The lighting quality appears as true daylight with correct shadow angles. A mind boggling effort of a lifetime.
I appreciate the same run by from slightly different angles. It gives us viewers sort of a taste of all the different angles you have seen. The level of detail on this scope must be seen from every vantage point. Well done video.
Such a beautiful layout! Would love to see some scenery videos, processes and products used to create a scene and landscaping. Enjoyed your shop build! Came out great!
That's one nice O three rail layout. You really nailed the sound on the 2-10-4, deep strong exhaust, perfect whistle and air pumps just a great overall job.
What the heck is really going on here? I've seen some magnificent setups in real life and hundreds here on UA-cam. But this looks so real I think I can just walk through my phone and be there. The buildings and scenery are so perfect. All the way down to the debris in and on the ballast and those ties with the plates and spikes and the weeds growing up through the cracks in the concrete! This is frickin amazing I can't believe what I'm seeing. Brother you are the Master of the masters fabulous absolutely fabulous!
I noticed that the rearmost tender truck seems to go up some sort of inclined rail at the end of the turntable. Was this because of the sheer size of the AT&SF engines and tenders compared to the Pennsy’s? As well, was this an actual practice in real life used by the railroads in order to accommodate bigger visiting motive power? Regardless, love your work and your layout! Hope it continues to bring you many more years of enjoyment!
This was a fairly well documented event in 1956. The Columbus Railroads site has the story and there’s even a few shots of the turntable skates: www.columbusrailroads.com/new/?menu=05Steam_Railroads&submenu=15Pennsylvania_Railroad&submenu4=20Santa%20Fe%20Class%205011
From the YT thumbnail, I thought wow a some real footage of 5022 hauling coal. Your scenery is spectacular and the lighting during filming excellent. Minus big plumes of smoke this is as real as it gets. As if I was standing trackside watching trains hard at work. Absolutely fantastic layout and realistic. We’ll done… 👍👏🚂😀
It took me a while to figure out this was three rail O. I usually don’t even pay attention to 3 rail because it is so toyish. But you have done an outstanding job. Beautiful scenery and buildings. Congrats!
What an extremely well detailed layout. The video work is top notch. It was a joy to watch and I will definitely be looking for more videos of this layout.
An awesome video, awesome layout, awesome engine, just all around awesomeness. Your modeling and setup is one of the best. You are definitely an inspiration to us that want to go to the lengths of realism in these models. I just want to say that!
Hi Norm, met you at York on Thursday, talked for just a few minutes, meant to ask you what you were looking for. Your work is fantastic and follow you on DVD, magazines and this site.
Nice meeting you! I always look for bargains! Haha. I got quite a few nice projects, even snagged some rare 3rd Rail brass head end cars - the theatre scenery car and the RPO that came out at the same time. Maybe I’ll do a vid on them.
Great video as usual showing your expertise in weathering, sound, video quality. etc. for a realistic experience. Only thing missing is smoke and steam effects. I understand your desire to not cover your models in oily deposits, but just saying. Thanks
The PRR J1 may have more starting pull, but once the 5011 class got its train rolling, they can pull it faster than the J1. Both were still really good 2-10-4s tho, good stuff.
Nice Norm, all the work you put into that beauty paid off, she ran excellent, the train crew had to love it too, wasn't Pennsy crews paid more by tonnage on drivers?? 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
We don't need to bring back those golden days of steam, it's right in front of our eyes in this video ! Superb at the least !
Love the jacknifing of the tender on the turntable. They used to do that for the Big Boys, but I wasn't aware of other engines doing it too
What luck we had historically that the 2 most awesome and beautiful Texans ever built actually got to work shoulder to shoulder with each other, at least for a short time. Stunning layout and models too.
Reading T1s were leased by the Pennsy in 1957 for a while. Norm could run one of those, too.
With all the visual detail, you artistically, have shown here, it was only when someone else pointed out the 3 rail tracks that I even noticed that, so that being said, all your excellent workma ship enables one to ignore the 3 rail tracking !!!!!!!

Over the TOP !
Incredible detail! One of the best I've ever seen! Great work.
You truly have a gift of making the past come alive thru your modeling. Thank you.

Thanks a lot! It is one of my favorite engines and it has a neat history with the PRR.
Nice channel btw!!

Just gorgeous! The sound is realistic and the videography is excellent.
I love coal drags. Your weathering skills are unmatched
Love the attention to detail here, the weathering of the trains and cars, the weathering of all the structures, right down the the rust on the barrels. Not to mention the aged stains on the concrete and even the simple cracks in the concrete. Very, Very lifelike ..
Excellent Workmanship !!!

The realism is on a whole other level!!! Awesome
One of the most beautiful 3 rail layouts you will ever see! Simply magnificent.
I think he has done some video like that. Look at his channel.
I love the way that you set up your shots, it all looks normal and natural...
Expert model builder plus expert videographer!
That's one nice O three rail layout. You really nailed the sound on the 2-10-4, deep strong exhaust, perfect whistle and air pumps just a great overall job.

Most beautiful 2-10-4 ever built
Always enjoyed seeing your incredible layout in the various mags. Seeing it in operation is that much more enjoyable.
Such an exceptional model. The attention to detail is next-level. Thanks for sharing.
Great video Norm and beautiful engine! Thanks for sharing.
I loved that fact we saw both a Santa Fe 5011 class and a Pennsylvania J-1 class two awesome classes of the Texas type locomotive
Great video, as always. I never get tired of seeing your layout in action!

What a fantastic layout! Love those Pennsy signals!!!
Still sends my mind back to the Movie Model makers, your creativity and attention to little details like little junkpiles is pretty fascinating !

That’s a spectacular layout my friend. Beautiful work

Another great video. Thanks for sharing.

What an extremely well detailed layout. The video work is top notch. It was a joy to watch and I will definitely be looking for more videos of this layout.
Loved the shot where you had both of my favorite locomotives (Pennsylvania 2-10-4 and 4-8-4)
That is one loco I'd like to acquire someday! I can never see enough of your layout. Thanks
From northern Sweden: MANY thanks for this fantastic video. Många tack för denna fantastiska video.
Awesome engine Norm! Great weathering job and great action shots
An awesome video, awesome layout, awesome engine, just all around awesomeness. Your modeling and setup is one of the best. You are definitely an inspiration to us that want to go to the lengths of realism in these models.
I just want to say that!
Fabulous video, locomotive 🚂, excellent workmanship
Awesome layout and rolling stock.
Fantastic Layout 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Such a stunning layout. Everything on this video is top shelf ⭐️
One of my favorite clips of all times
Norm, you are an absolute artist!
Can't believe a loco like this is a foot longer than a 2-10-10-2. What a machine.
WOW SO REAL LIKE WHAT A NICE JOB,,..........
Amazingly beautiful historic layout, you are an artist, I enjoyed this visual. Keep it up.
Great running session, I love the SF 5022 2-10-4. Thanks for another great video.
Amazing scenery and detail. Really enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing.
You did a great job on that locomotive! And, it looks great on your layout!
Awesome job on the Texas Norm! Another very realistic model running on your very realistic layout! 👍

Absolutely amazing as usual! Thank you so much.
Great scenery. Thanks for posting.
BTW, I'd love to see a video featuring that 2-8-0 and local freight going about its work.
I shot some vid of it a while ago: ua-cam.com/video/KsmnyIn2wK8/v-deo.html
Thanks for the kind words, I’ve watched many of your vids!
That bridge section is sweet.
Masterpiece. Greetings from Argentina!

The lighting is very natural looking as well...
Stringing wires between the telephone poles would be a great added effect !
Norm, that is a sweet engine! It's got a neat beat running!

The locomotive sounds like it's chugging out the halloween theme at medium speed :-D
Those Atlas H21 hopper cars are the nicest freight cars ever produced in 3 rail in my opinion
Yes they are! I found 4 more shadow keystone ones under the layout last month and got them set up. Just wish I could find decent loads for them again.
I am enthusiastic about this lovingly designed model railway. Weiter so. 👍👍
Amazing video and sounds, lovely thanks
*My oh My that 5022 has a Massive Tender Behind - Give Beyonce a good run !*
Awesome. Thank you
Pięknie dopracowana makieta - szieło sztuki - gratuluję!
So much detail i love it
Wonderful video like and subscribed from Czech Republic 🙂👍👍👍
Millimeters to spare for the wheels and that overhang is just wow. Talk about maxing out a turn table. I guess 28” isn’t enough 😂
JUST FANTASTIC!!!!!
Great video as usual showing your expertise in weathering, sound, video quality. etc. for a realistic experience. Only thing missing is smoke and steam effects. I understand your desire to not cover your models in oily deposits, but just saying. Thanks
This is a masterpiece. Love it!
Wow! So realistic! Awesome Job!!
This is a work of art.
This locomotive is actually at the museum of transportation in St. Louis
The Coal Age, eh! Magnificent in its way.
Nice touch with the extension on the turntable.
This was helpful: www.godfatherrails.com/photos/pv.asp?pid=515
Nice run Norm. Thanks!
The PRR J1 may have more starting pull, but once the 5011 class got its train rolling, they can pull it faster than the J1. Both were still really good 2-10-4s tho, good stuff.
Yep, I remember a PRR driver saying that for the record.
Love you set up
Incredible detail
This is awesome, would like to do a Twilight Zone thing and live in that set lol.
Nice Norm, all the work you put into
that beauty paid off, she ran excellent, the train crew had to love
it too, wasn't Pennsy crews paid more by tonnage on drivers??
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Superb modeling.
Thanks! 😃
Thanks to a previous video I got a J1a and have updated the sounds. Now I want a Santa Fe 2-10-4 so the J1a has a friend.
