FANTASTIC CAMERA WORK NORM INSIDE THE SHOP FOLLOWING THROUGH TO OUTSIDE, SPIELBERG COULDN'T DO BETTER! BRILLIANT WORK I LOVE ALL YOUR ENGINES THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR STATE OF THE ART TRAINS AND LAYOUT, BRAVO!!!!!!!
Jesus Norm! Just when one would think it's already top shelf... you take it to another level!👍🏻😳👍🏻Extremely well done! I have junk piles in my shop that don't look as realistic as the ones on your layout😳 Lol. Love the lighting also. Thanks for sharing your vids!👍🏻🙂
@@1940limited thx you guys. I’m not doing anything fancy, just using my (getting old) iPhone 8 in the roundhouse and an older iPad Pro for everything else. Ending pacing shot was done with a GoPro 9. Still a bit miffed my last few uploads aren’t showing up in 4K.
Your layout looks incredible. Your work is very inspiring. I am gonna really up my game and step up to another level . The lighting really shows all the fantastic detail . I call this art . I think you picked a wonderful era in Steam as well . Thanks for sharing your work . Look foreword to every video .
What a great way to start off 2021. What was neat about watching this video for me was after following the new engine shop build..it was sort of like a movie set. I knew ahead of time some of the things that were in the scenery..The flash stuff that was given you in that detail order you received that stuff is awesome in the junk piles.. so non distinct.. it's just there, junk tin or metal flashing..whatever.. it's awesome. Watching the weathering technique you used for your new concrete pad at the shop..seeing that as the locos passed the shop..and the view out of the window.. Spectacular Norm... Thank you for sharing all of it. I'm running long here.. let's not forget the M1b.. they are the actors.. doing their thing in the movie set.
Glad you liked it. I did it with a GoPro 9 that I recently acquired. It really isn't so great for layout filming but I've been experimenting with it when I can. I wish I could change its depth of field/focus.
You've done it again Norm! The new facility and the M1b look awesome! Myself being more B&O and Western Maryland, the Pennsy M1's are one of my favorite Mountain types. If you've ever read the books by Alvin Stauffer (Pennsy Power 1, 2 and 3,) it has the story on how these locomotives were designed and made. Boiler from the I1sa hippos with an addition of a 96" long combustion chamber + 72" drivers = power and speed. I forget what book I read this in, where it said that this made it one of the most if not the most efficient boiler design made. Amazing models you have of an amazing locomotive. I rank it as a favorite with the B&O's T-3's and it's adopted siblings the T-4's, that the B&O got from the Boston & Maine.
Norm, another great video. Is your lighting for the videos from the layout room or is it supplemented. the temperature of the lighting and the intensity of the shadows is as natural as I have seen. Really love your engine facilities and the upgrade you did
Thanks man. Then lighting you see is my layout lighting. I am running about 3 dozen or so 5000K led PAR20s in track lighting with a central run of open bulbs using my ductwork as a sort of valance. Everything is basically Home Depot stuff. Their bulbs have a decent CRI rating.
Nice. 3rd Rail are belt driven?. Pretty Cool. Wish I knew how to edit videos on my channel. Some day I will learn. I’ve been subscribed to your ch for a while, impressive.
Yes, this one has the Quiet Drive which I think started showing up in the early 2000s. My Decs still have gearboxes. This would run 10X nicer with ERR but I will keep the EOB alive until I can’t. I wouldn’t call what I do ‘editing’. I am just stringing clips together in iMovie. 😀
I guess my K4s may fit the bill but I’d rather stick to ~1955 which is right in the thick of the transition era. Really wouldn’t mind finding an L1 or a K4 with the postwar cast pilots.
@@normstrains Well if you prefer the postwar model with the headlight on top of the smoke box it is your choice. Checkout my HO scale Pre War version of the K4s pacific with a oil head lamp and a blue boiler on Flickr if you search my name as it appears on youtube.
Okay...that scene of the camera coming out of the new shop following the M1B is AMAZING!!! I was wondering since you fitted the steam pipe to the coupler, would it be possible to run a fast mail and express type train since they were dual-purpose loco's?
Nice video, very well done. The only problem I had with it was in 25 years working on locomotives I've never seen a turntable move that fast. Slow it down at least 50% and it will almost appear to be as real as the rest of the video.
Thanks, I do have a way to limit speed on the TT, I should set it sometime. Took me four takes to coordinate the movement of the engine onto the TT and the lineup to the outbound track in a continuous shot. I do not have indexing so I have to line it up by eye. I run everything through my remote (CAB-1) and tried to stay out of view. Had to crop the shot a bit because the reflection of my remotes antenna could be seen in the roundhouse windows. Not sure why I typed all this haha sorry.
Thanks man. I touched on some of the differences in this vid: ua-cam.com/video/YSB59colfu0/v-deo.html I hope to do a layout tour vid sometime soon and I'm thinking it might good to split it up into different sections. One segment might be showing and explaining power and control.
Hey Norm, I’m a lover of the Pennsylvania railroad and a big fan of Pennsylvania’s M1b. I have a m1b but in n scale and have debated about weathering it, do you think your weather video on the locomotive can work the same with n scale. Please let me know thanks!
He had a nice layout! Hope he’s doing well. I used to see him at York. I never saw his layout in person sadly but it would make my list of influential layouts for sure.
Very nice Norm. Love all the detail work on the layout. You put a lot of pride and work into this railroad. Can’t stop watching your videos now.

Norm, the inside of that roundhouse is nothing short of spectacular! Beautiful weathering on the steamer too.
My husband and I love the work that you do.Great job, thank you.😀
Seeing the steam rise up through the vent and out the top wouldve been a perfect scene
Amazing, amazing, amazing. What else can we say? Thanks for sharing.
Nicely done, thanks for showing us.
The attention to detail is just incredible, what a fantastic layout!

Well done Norm. Once again you've blown us all away with your skills. The M1b and the new service facility looks incredible.
The Pennsylvania M1b is a terrific model. The video was outstanding. Excellent work Norm.
What's so terrible about it ????
Seem to run well.
3rd Rail or not this is an awesome
layout, very well done and very
realistic!! Keep up the great work
Norm!!
I like the weathering on it! Another job well done!
This is by far the most realistic-looking 3-rail O gauge layout I've ever seen. Bravo!
Thanks a lot man!
I’ve said this many times, Your work is Phenomenal, second to NOBODY! You are the best in the business.
While I am awe struck by your amazing railroad, I must comment you on your photography. Very well done!
I noticed that, too. He's also an excellent videographer.

Outstanding photography as always. The pacing sequence starting at 11:30 is particularly striking. You are actually outdoing yourself!

extraordinarily realistic, Great job!!!!!
Very nice! Looks like it runs nice and smooth now
Wow your layout is beautiful only matched by your videography. That pacing shot coming out of the engine house was super slick.

@@normstrains it came out super cool. Definitely something that can be pulled off better in O instead of a smaller scale like HO or even N.
fabulous Sir it is amazing the realism you get thank you
Crazy detail. Gorgeous engine. Thanks!
Lookin' good!
Looking great norm!!
Loved this video. Great work. Looking forward to see more. Awesome... Full watched.
Nice layout and equipment, liked the apartments in the sky the flats look so real...
A wonderful layout, Thanks for presentation, from Germany
Thanks!
Your layout and models never cease to impress Mr. Norm. I plan on doing 2 rail o scale as I'm an HO convert and think it'd be easier to do.
Great job
Superb weathering and modeling skills!
Scenery is perfect!!!!!!!
Just a really great railroad

I love the fact there isn't a single bit of graffiti to be seen anywhere. I sure miss the good ole days. Fantastic job.
what a beast
Did anyone notice the bathroom in the new car shops? Norm thinks of everything!
For those of us who do not know what an M1a or an M1b is or why there is a third rail, can you supply a bit more info. Love the video!

I looks real. The only way to tell, other than the people not moving is that the light is artificial. Other than that, it had me fooled for a sec!

Anyone know what is the size of norms trainboard and how long has norm been working on it?
Do you ever have occasion to run any of the locomotive tender first?
I suppose I could but I think it’s face is a bit nicer than its butt!
@@normstrains Yes, I was just thinking about how the real railroads had to do that at times. The coal fields of the Reading and the T1s come to mind.
