Making A Motorcycle Wallet with A Secret Pocket!
This custom leather wallet was handmade for a customer of ours. The Wallet is a version of our motorcycle-style wallet, with a whole ton of storage for credit cards, cash, and receipts.
This motorcycle wallet is made with vegetable tanned leather and hand sewn with a saddle stitch. We used 2-5oz leather throughout, and finished the edges buy burnishing and applying bee's wax.
Making this motorcycle wallet pattern is an intermediate project, it is not super difficult you've just got to install the pockets in the correct order. The secret pocket is actually the connection between the top cash slot and the bottom one - you just sew it in a way that creates a hidden pocket to store credit cards, cash, or folded paper !
Making this motorcycle wallet is a great way to practice making larger leather crafting pieces. It is a great unisex design, and can be made with our without the snap depending on what sort of style you'd like the finished piece to have.
I’ve been watching your videos for the last few weeks and have purchased some leather working tools. My father had this as a hobby when I was growing up and I never really paid it any mind. Harness is the first one we've got planned, just started training him to wear one and as soon as he's good to go and stops growing we'll make him a leather one :)

I really like how you use the different layers of leather and the stitching to create that effect of how it opens on the side which has the hidden pocket (I don't know how to call this).

I just recently ran across this tutorial that was made 4 years ago without any voice instructions. It's a great design. Is there any chance that you could remake the video with voice instructions?

Great work, I really love your work!! Can you slow down the video when you stitch so I can see exactly how you do it? You’re using two needles?
So how do we figure out where the other part of the snap goes? May be a simple question but I'm new to this stuff.
There looks to be a washer of some type between the the two pieces of leather where the snap is to be installed. Is that just another piece of leather shaped like a washer? Do you just glue it in place?
When making the card pockets in line, do you use a spacer in the pocket? It looks puffed up a bit to make room for the cards.

Nice one, but do you put anything on that wallet when it's done,e.g. Acrylic Resolene? I can't imagine carrying a wallet made from raw veg tan. I understand natural look and I really like it, but a single drop of rain would leave a stain forever :)
You can use whatever conditioner you prefer - on our personal pieces we usually tan them in the sun for a day then apply mink oil and Obenaufs, but we send them out to our customers completely natural so that they can treat the piece however they'd like. We don't use any acrylics or paints or anything though, just natural oils and wax pastes so that the patina can develop over time

Need a grommet for a chain
You could add one no prob, there's a spot for it! The customer requested no grommet as she'll be carrying it in a purse :)

yep! we like the way you can see the stitching and details on camera with natural veg, but we make a full product line of products in dyed leathers for our website

We know you secretly have dies for everything you luxurious bastard.. Teehee.. The custom hardware is really clever.. When I look at large scale commercial productions, it's the first thing I notice too.
All our production stuff is die cut, no shame in that game :) But I reckon we'd go broke getting dies for every UA-cam video! Thanks for the kind words!

OMG I feel bad saying this, but I have to get it out. THAT CAT IS JUST PLAIN CREEPY!!! I love cats, but this one just gives me the willies looking at him. I'm sure you adore him or you wouldn't have gotten him, but OMG - let's just say that hairless cats aren't for everyone. Even some people that actually like cats might be a little freaked out about him. I love the leather work though
No worries! Their looks aren't for everyone, I happen to love them and have 3 now but it's ok not to like how they look! It's certainly a shock to see one unexpectedly - just know that they have the sweetest personalities ever, so if you meet one be prepared for lots of head scratches and purring :)
