Yes, they changed the lyrics to reflect their journey. They talk about how they've been together since they were 14. Kirstie talks about her Broadway performances. This is so great! They were babies in this video!

Each scene represents the individual members choice as to who they feel they are...that's why there are five different scenes! Love this one! Edit: They do rap in several songs....Kevin has a great one in "Sing!"

If you watch closely, you'll see that the costumes change depending on who is singing/performing! When Kevin (the beat boxer) is the focus, they're in the church wearing church clothes. When Scott (the tall blonde) is the focus, they're wearing the college-look clothes. When Mitch (the high tenor) is the focus, they're wearing nerd outfits. On Mitch's rap part where he goes: "thats what you get when Texas raised you" was a lyric change caused, they were raised in Texas.
Pentatonix posted this to UA-cam on August 20, 2013. This was slightly less than two years after they won _The Sing-Off._ Madison Gate would have been their record label back then, I believe.
Kevin (black guy, beatboxer, sounds and looks like a preacher or choir director in the first scene) is a Seventh-day Adventist, and I believe he had originally intended to become a missionary after medical school. He gave up both medical school and the plan to become a medical missionary when he joined Pentatonix, but he regularly posts religious content, and I believe he's done so ever since they were Babytonix, as they were in this video.

yes, they tweaked some of explicit lyrics of the original. regarding church at the start, Kevin (beatboxer) is very religious so one reason for church location is that, other reason might be churches have great acoustics so they are often used for classical concerts and Kevin is also classical cellist

This may have been said but to answer some of your questions. They did change 3 maybe 4 of the lyrics slightly and they do their own arrangements so some of the drops and stuff are their own. They may not have been in the original. That is generally true for any of their songs tbh. Great reaction and congratz on the 👶😊

Pentatonix tries to keep their songs at PG-13 level at worst, so yes, they do change the lyrics occasionally to tone them down a little. Their cover of Thrift Shop (another Macklemore and Lewis cover) also modifies the lyrics slightly - but unless you're very familiar with the original, you'll never even know it. And it's a hoot - but make sure to stay tuned for the outro!
