See you guys next time, Bye!
Ben Bram is and has been a major force behind PTX from the very beginning, and has shared in some of their Grammy Award wins. He is involved in arranging and producing their songs.
Kevin Olusola is amazing in his solo version of 'Down' (Marion Hill cover). Basically, he is a genius. I would love for you to react to that video.
I 2nd, 3rd & 4th that request!!!! Their minds will be totally blown!!!
Maybe Kevin's biggest vocal solo in a PTX video is in their cover of John Lennon's IMAGINE. This is also a rare PTX video that comes with a powerful message and is not just simply a cover.
Yes, the original 3 (who just called themselves the Trio before they formed Pentatonix for The Sing Off competition show) grew up together in Texas.
Oh thx Tamara! :p
So they changed up most of the lyrics to match their own story. If you want to hear Mitch rap some more, try their cover of Problem. Or the live recording Popspring 2016 concert: on their original song Can't Sleep Love, Mitch does some very well-received rap (seriously, the audience goes nuts). Also, 2012-2017, Mitch and Scott had a side-project called Superfruit, and they did some rap: Check out Feeling Myself.
Yes, except for their very earliest videos, they have professional videography and editing. On PTXOfficial on UA-cam, you can see "Making of" for several of their videos. But on the medleys, like Evolution of Michael Jackson, they do a single take.
Nice reaction! To hear Kevin he sings in "Mary did You Know", "Imagine", as well as "Amazing Grace" he is one sickly talented dude! By himself try "Down" you get a lot of his talent.
They have 2 full albums of original music as well as other single tracks on other albums. They aren't "just" a cover band.
Of their original music I would recommend Run to You, Sing, Can't Sleep Love, Happy Now, Coffee in Bed, The Lucky Ones
@@YBPlaysMusic You won't be disappointed... and you will get to hear Kevin sing!! 🎻💜
@@beverlykrebs4372 true, and it's an amazing song. Not a PTX original though - it's a hymn. The version PTX covered is the Chris Tomlin one "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)"
@@Sweeney541 Oh, of course I know it's not an original! LOL! I've been singing this in Church all my life! HaHa!! We never sang the My Chains Are Gone version, though! It wasn't around when I was growing up! 😏
Great reaction, guys! Always fun to watch you enjoying Pentatonix. They make us feel happy, too! Many of us got through COVID isolation by listening to PTX. Just can't help feeling upbeat when they sing.
This song is definitely one of my wake-up and/or workout songs!! These 5 (plus Ben Bram, and now Matt instead of Avi) are musical masterminds, acapella aficionados, singing sensations, vocal victors!!
I like watching you get so hyped when you watch PTX! And you should definitely check out their tour lineup for Europe next year! I just can't wait till they tour the US again.
Your smile is infectious. I found myself smiling throughout the video. Thanks for putting a smile on my face.
Awesome, Marco! So glad you had a good time watching our reaction!
Each of the costumes/ back scenery are a nod to where they came from. Kirsten has broadway experience, Kevin is classically trained and a church singer, Scott was the cool kid and Mitch was the nerd. Avi is an avid outdoorsman. After they won the Sing Off, They won a recording contract but the label dropped them pretty quickly. They decided to do their own videos so the early songs were recorded in their homes and uploaded to youtube. Once they went viral on YT they got a contract for distribution by Madison Gate. A subsidiary of Sony.
They made this video in 2013, years before Kirstin debuted on Broadway (2018). She did attend University of Oklahoma to study musical theater but left to form Pentatonix with the others for The Sing-Off in 2011. When she raps "My posse's been on Broadway", she might be referring to friends who were on Broadway at the time.
Hi 👋🏻 🇨🇦
Kevin singing - Mary Did You Know or Amazing Grace videos.
Kevin Cello - Shallow or Thank You videos
Always fun watching you guys react 😘
Thx so much Elyse, so glad you like our reactions ;)
thx for the suggestions! Amazing Grace is definitely one that I want to check out in the near future!
Thank You is an original song written by Scott (and his boyfriend Mark), and features not only Kevin on cello, but also Scott on piano.
Kevin also plays the cello in Perfect, Radioactive, Papaoutai, Say Something.
Radioactive with Lindsey Stirling also has some cello
Kevin also has both cello and a brief singing part in their cover of “Say Something”, raps on “Sing”, and plays cello in “Dancing by Myself”. That one is particularly poignant because Avi had left at that point, but Matt had not yet joined the group, and Kevin plays his cello in place of Avi’s vocals.
They have several original songs. Check out their song of BE MY EYES thats an original
Thx for the suggestion travis! I'll definitely do some of their originals in the future but there's first gonna be a couple other ones before that (that are already recorded ;) )
2 Original Albums are more than several... :)
Have you seen Daft Punk yet??!! I want to see you watch THAT one!! Lol! Anyway, they all look totally different today, coz- well- this was about 10 yrs ago! Lol! So be prepared when you watch any new stuff! Mitch looks completely different! Also, since Avi left (very amicably) in 2017 they ended up adding Matt Sallee as the new bass, and, as much as we love & miss Avi, Matt is totally awesome, and has a HUGE range & sings solo a lot on their songs. Avi has a HUGE range as well! He has his own solo career now & you would be doing yourselves a great disservice if you didn't check it out! But Kevin Olusola will blow your minds more than anyone else if you watch his channel KO. His cover of Down by Marion Hill will knock you on your butts!! You have been warned!!😉
Kevin Graduated Pre Med from Yale, he is a classically trained cellist ( he cello/ boxes ie beat boxes while playing the cello). He also speaks fluent Mandarin
He is a genius and a gift to us all
Kevin is sick talented
Scott, Kirstin and Mitch are all from Arlington(suburb of Dallas, Texas); they went to school together.
They have so many great originals…if you want one that will definitely make you want to get up and dance watch SING! There are quite a few PTX songs where you can hear Kevin sing (and a few where he plays the cello). In SING he actually raps.
Guys, there's a behind the scenes video for this one as well. Shows how it was shot. Each location and costume was chosen for one of the members to reflect their personalities. Kevin is in a Church, Avi in nature etc etc. They have used the same company for most of their videos (Fifgen I think.). Great reaction - looking forward to more PTX.
Another video where Kevin plays the Cello is Imagine Dragons cover of Radioactive with Lindsay Sterling colabs with them and she plays her epic violin.
also, Shallow
Kevin the beat boxer had played at Carnegie Hall (very prestigious in the US) fire cello and Alto sax. He is fluent in Mandarin & graduated from Yale med school just before he joined PTX.
I enjoyed your reactions. I love your bloopers. I'm glad that you included them. Thank you. Glad that you both liked this early Pentatonix video. More Pentatonix reactions soon please.
Mitch ,Scott and Kirsten are from Texas. The whole song is about there struggle after there win on the Sing-off . It was season 3, $200.000 dollars and a Sony contract. Sony dropped them a week after they moved to California. So they went to UA-cam. Kristi and Scott were in collage on different sides of the country. ( the settings for the video) Matt was living his life as a man of faith ( again Video). Avi was in the country trying to start his a capella camp (video) Mitch was still in highschool. ( as in the video)
Great reaction Yuri (and friend :)) If you're going to react PTX's entire discography to prepare to see them in concert, I will buy your ticket just so I can binge watch. Good to see you back :)
@@YBPlaysMusic I'd love you to check out pretty much everything they've done! :)
I think they are dressed accordingly to the style of the one holding the spotlight at what particular part of the song
Mitch, Scott and Kirstin all went to high school in Arlington, Texas.
You mentioned Nikki Minaj, Mitch and Scott actually did a cover of Nikki Minaj and Beyoncé's Feeling Myself on their side project Superfruit.
A company called FifGen Films did all of their early videos like this one and Daft Punk. I'm not sure if they still work with them or how many of their videos they did in total. At the time an article was written about the Daft Punk video FiFGen was just two 24yr old guys who had just hired a third to work with them but were making big waves in the industry with Pentatonix.
There are also some reeeaaaaally early videos like Moves Like Jagger that the group filmed themselves on Mitch's iPad. Most of those were the famous "couch videos", but there was at least one filmed in a laundry room with Mitch and Scott sitting on the washer and dryer. I think that one was Edge of Glory.
Here's the link to the Behind the Scenes for this video. It was filmed at just 1 location - the mountain-top campus of Mount St. Mary's University near Los Angeles (the same location where Avi (the bass), and Ben Bram founded the A Cappella Academy for 12-18 year olds rom around the world right after this video was done).ua-cam.com/video/t0P5IlVG3BQ/v-deo.html
Scott, Mitch and Kirsty are all from Arlington and Fort Worth, TX. They're within Tarrant County.
Pentatonix Europe tour 2022
Mitch, Scott and Kirstie are from Texas. Went to school together.
The prayer
Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch are all from Texas.
Brill! 😍
Kevin also plays saxophone. Well, I'm sure all the Pent up people will tell you all about it & make requests. Good reaction.
Kevin is indeed both amazing and crazy. Check out his KOver of 'Down'. It's an amazing ride. He sings. He beat boxes. He plays electric cello...and he mixes and loops the whole thing in one unbelievable take. Highly recommend.
Scott, Mitch and Kirstie are from Texas.. they grew up together
Thx Glen for the info, that's a nice reference! :p
@@YBPlaysMusic you’re more than welcome
As Glen said the trio, Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch are all from Arlington, Texas. Kevin is from Kentucky and Matt is from Pennsylvania. They all live in the Los Angeles area now. Avi who has left the group was originally from California’s Central Valley.
Arlington TX.
Starships cover by PTX is awesome, not as many people React to it, but it is fun and you will get to hear Mitch Rap more.
Please do their Popspring 2016 and The making of Evergreen.
Another great PTX reaction Yuri (and Jorim)!! This one always makes me dance around my house ❤️🎉
Give me a cocktail and I’ll dance with you!! 😆
Kevin does not only play the Chello, he also plays about 4 more Instruments. He´s a fcking Monster and so damn creative
1. I have another fave video on your channel!
2. I love how all of 5 scenes that changes every time, everyone is in front of every 5 scene! I don't know if you paid attention to that 😜
They are from Arlington Tx.
Thanks for the reaction!
I call it when they do a cover it's been "Pentacized". The editor is Ben Bramm the quiet sixth member. Ben and Scott have been friends for years.
I don't think Ben edits their videos
Have you checked out DAFT PUNK MEDLEY...most excellent. 💯🔥
Check their tour dates. They where doing a world tour last year when covid closed them down. They will do the other half next year. The dates and places are posted.
Amazing Grace
Have you reacted to Come Along by Pentatonix? It’s a lot of fun.
React to Imagine to hear Kevin sing.
Great Reaction As Usual!!!!
Yes the Trio Scott, Mitch, & Kirsten are from Arlington, Texas and have been friends since age 8!!!! To hear Kevin sing more Check out Their Covers of "Amazing Grace", "Imagine" bu John Lennon, "Mary Did You Know", & "Evolution of Michael Jackson"!!!! Also Check Out Kevin Olusola's Cover of "Down" by Marian Hill!!!!
Your friend kind of looks like David Goffin......cute.
Sadly not his tennis skills!
Scotts is from Texas
Kevin also sings in their Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone video.
Hi there! After some time I watched your PTX reaction again. Very nice, as always! Mr. Ben Bram is the producer. He is a genius. Well, the same can easily be said for all of them. I would love to see you react to Daft Punk. But also to Hallelujah - both version, studio and LIFE. You should also react to Amazing Grace; there is surprise at the end (Kevin sings). Well, any of their songs is something special. Among the comments I am reading about PTX there has been the one I particularly loved: "They do not cover the songs, they upgrade them!" With which I totally agree.
Oh I am so sorry, not Daft Punk, I forgot that I already watched your reaction. Hallelujah official and LIVE version, it is highly recommended. Why? Because I know you would love it! Anyway, there are so many fantastic songs that you should react to that I believe you will manage to find the best ones.
Cheers from sunny Slovenia - country of the new (and old) Tour de France winner ;)))
If I am correct, Kevin is Julliard trained, and he can play a number of instruments.
Thx for the info, Rebecca! That's quite impressive! Interested to find out what he can do as well. (This Friday, I post another one from PTX ;) )
@@YBPlaysMusic not Juilliard but very impressive both he and Avi.
Kevin Olusola is a Yale graduate (pre-med). He speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, loves classical music, and plays piano, cello, and saxophone. He had performed at Carnegie Hall twice as soloist on the cello and saxophone and had appeared on NPR’s “From The Top” in 2005 ua-cam.com/video/cg-WQl3YCVY/v-deo.html, he also won second place in an international cello competition hosted by Yo-Yo Ma.
In 2011, his “Julie-O” UA-cam video was featured by CBS, AOL, Huffington Post and the Washington Post, among others. He was named one of 100 “History Makers in the Making” by TheGrio and was chosen by Quincy Jones to represent him in concert at the 2012 Montreux Jazz Festival alongside Bobby McFerrin and Chick Corea.

Avriel (Avi) Kaplan, was a student of classical music and opera deciding between being a choral director or an opera singer when the Pentatonix opportunity came along. He plays guitar, banjitar, mandolin, ukulele, piano, bass and harmonica.
He composes, arranges and produces music for choral, a cappella and vocal bands as well as for his own solo work. In 2008 he joined Fermata Nowhere, a group that became the first community college a cappella entrants to win the ICCA. Avi won an award for “Best Rhythm Section.” which the ICCA had changed to allow them to award it to a vocal bass. Avi later joined Singcopation, a jazz ensemble that won the Monterey Jazz Festival Competition in his first year. He had performed at venues worldwide, including New York City's Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.
In 2014 he, along with Ben Bram and Rob Dietz, founded the A Cappella Academy in Los Angeles that accepts students from around the world and they have been running it virtually during the pandemic.

Liked and subscribed. Will check out the rest of your ptx content.
If you could make a playlist in the order of your discovery.
Hope and joy to all.
Mitch, Kirsten and Scott went to school together Mitch is two years behind them. They have known each other since they were 10/12. They are from Austin. Scott went to USC, and got them to try out for the Sing-off
Actually, they are from Arlington Texas.
There all from texas
Kevin was discovered by PTX on UA-cam while he was posting videos of himself beatboxing while playing cello. If you're interested in seeing/hearing that, try their cover of Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" or the newer one they did with Matt (instead of Avi): Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" cover.
Avi taught Kevin to sing.
Kevin is a tenor and sings quite well. But that’s the least of his talents to echo the other commenters.
Great reaction, I enjoyed it a lot! Would recommend "Problem" for more rapping 😀
I love when people react to covers of songs they like. Especially when they enjoy it so much! It's fun watching it plus I'm getting educated in music lol no, not really, I still suck at this "Barritone", "Bass", stuff 😂 Oh, maybe you could react with Jorim to "Can't Hold Us" by L.E.J? They're three French girls doing some covers, Summer medleys and stuff.
I really enjoy the approach you guys take. I suggest looking at Avi Kaplan especially his live stuff. Very different
YOu would like "Sing" another Pentatonix fast paced song really fun
Scott did the original video editing.
Check out Kevin Olusola “the beat boxer” that you never heard sing. It’ll be a wake up
Have you guys reacted to cheerleader
Check out Love Again by PTX. One of their early originals. ☮️
Kirsten really was on Broadway.
Kevin can sing well, but you can hear that his voice is not trained like the others are. It's more of a raw diamond really.
Shallow
let more time go bye
they do covers but the also do original music, I wouldnt call them a cover band they are a whole other animal
Would love to see you react to Heavydirtysoul or Nico and the Niners by twenty one pilots, Heavydirtysoul kinda a prequel to Jumpsuit and Nico kinda a sequel to Jumpsuit!
zijn jullie nederlands, of hoor ik het accent verkeerd haha
Haha klopt Dominique! ;)
Stop pausing so much! Give your comments at the end!
Do you REALLY need to pause every ten seconds even when you have nothing substantial to say? I'm glad you enjoyed the cover but geez.
TOOOOOO much talking(STOPING)
Dudes!!! I can't take you stopping every couple seconds. You're welcome for the thumbs down and this complaining comment for your UA-cam matrix.
you talk too much
Kevin Graduated Pre Med from Yale, he is a classically trained cellist ( he cello/ boxes ie beat boxes while playing the cello). He also speaks fluent Mandarin
He is a genius and a gift to us all Honestly they are all insanely talented
When they were on the TV competition show The Sing Off in 2011 (which they won), they refused to rap on hip hop week because they didn't think they could. I guess they figured out they COULD at some point, and they have rapped on several of their songs. Kevin sings a nice high tenor on several of their songs, but not on this one. In addition to cello, he also plays piano and saxophone. They have two full albums of original songs (including their latest album) and have one or two original tracks on almost all of their albums with just a couple of exceptions. Mitch, Scott & Kirstie are from Arlington, Texas, and they grew up together having known each other since they were children. Their last world tour began in late 2019 and was interrupted by the pandemic in 2020. They are planning to resume that tour next year...and they will be coming to Europe. Most of their videos are produced by a small L.A.-based independent film company called FifGen Films. FifGen was starting in the business at about the same time as Pentatonix's career was taking off, so it became a very lucrative partnership for each other.
Glad they chose not to with Love Lockdown!
Behind the Scenes video on filming this video
ua-cam.com/video/t0P5IlVG3BQ/v-deo.html
Not only does Kevin play the cello, he beatboxes at the same time.
This was all filmed at Mt Saint Mary's University in Los Angeles. Each background and clothing is based on the singer's interests. Kirstin, the girl's, is musical theater, Kevin is a very religious man, Avi is very into nature and has hiked all over the world, Mitch considers himself to be a nerd, Scott is well Scott 🙂
Avi taught Kevin to sing while they were roommates in the years starting out Pentatonix. Kevin had been strictly an instrumentalist before he joined the band on cello and saxophone.

Each set represents their personal style at that time, that's why each one is standing out front with each new scene. Plus I believe it was all shot on their campus in Texas.
For more of Kevin's singing voice and creativity, you might enjoy his cover of "Sign of the Times." Really enjoying your reactions!
