  • If your Roomba has worn out its tread, here is a simple way to fix it. Mine is Roomba 880 but this probably works for any Roomba.

Dang your roomba got some good use! It’s been a life saver for me but I stopped buying them new and just buy second hands off FB or offer up for $50. I do not like the ones with the rubber beater bars as they wear down very quickly. I prefer the one that has one brush beater and one rubber beater, mine is the 600 series.

Yeah, I see Roombas at the Goodwill a lot. I think many people originally buy them because they are lazy and don't want to vacuum the floor themselves. Due to their laziness, they don't bother to ever clean their Roomba either, which is ridiculously easy to do. As a result, they clog or stop working. So the machine sits around not working for a while until they decided to give it away to Goodwill or something.
I have two Roombas now, an 880 (rubber roller) I bought new and a 770 (brush roller) I bought for $15 at the Goodwill. One for upstairs and one for downstairs. I haven't really noticed much difference in the roller performance (brush vs. rubber). Maybe it depends on the floor you use it with. The brush one is a little more difficult to clean since you have to tease out all the hairs and such, but not that big of a deal.
Overall, I find these to be great little machines. I have no desire to use an app with one though so I don't care about any of those features. Then it becomes more of a chore. The old ones work great. With my 880, I did replace the battery once as they eventually wear out, but it was pretty cheap and easy to do as I recall.

So, now that it's been a while, do the rubber bands stay on?

You can use pretty much anything for treads if you are going to do the home-brew method shown here. Rubber bands, etc. The only way to "officially" fix the wheels, treads, or any part of the wheel is to buy a whole new wheel assembly. Which is a huge waste, but that's the way it is. I'd recommend looking on eBay. Surprisingly there are a lot of used parts you can find there that work just fine.

I bought mine on Amazon for about six or seven bucks. They fit perfectly.
