The problem with these companies is that they want line to forever go up. Must make profits year over end. Profiting isn't just enough. It has to be more than the year before even if they didn't lose any money that year. This is big companies just being greedy. They always need more.

I know the eu is getting loot boxes band since it’s gambling for kids I think government needs to get more involved when it comes to technology. The eu has already done amazing things, including forcing Apple to be more consumer friendly. I understand the government is filled with older people who may not fully understand the internet as a whole but games being focused on addiction strategies and manipulation of the players to spend their money, I think that’s when government needs to step in and say no. Microtransactions, and loot boxes will never make a game good. It may have been "flat" for MS and Xbox, but other parts of the industry did really well and released some banger games. From what I have seen, MS seems to have a real issue understanding the gaming industry, which is why they continue to throw money at anything that moves and pivots when anything doesn't sell like hot cakes. Personally, I have not seen too much brand pushing from them (I see tons of Nintendo and Sony ads), which I really feel is one of the underlying issues why that have such a problem with getting customer buy-in for their platform and gamepass.

Honestly, I would have had a similar response to yours in the past. But recently, I after doing more research I tend to agree Sarah on alot of things. "Gamer enthusiasts" don't really dictate the market. Games like hifi rush get plenty of praise, but only have a 7% completion rate. The big titles of 2023 see a big base at launch and then the player base falls off. The big long lasting games now are esports. Roblox, counter strike, Minecraft, fortnite. These are the games with stay power now. I also think the broader market shows mobile is huge, it dominates the global market in terms of sales numbers. But has become the preference in the Asian market. I came to grips that I'm a casual player. I'm a 36 yr old dad that doesn't have time to dedicate to gaming. I like the direction xbox is heading that allows me for the flexibility to play where ever, when ever. I also think that's one of the huge strengths of something like the SteamDeck.

The really sad part is that with owning a large company like Activision in Bethesda, what Microsoft and Xbox are supposed to be doing is using that funding to create a broader variety of titles through smaller development, teams and larger teams, but they’re going about it the wrong way thinking that every single title has to be call of duty grand theft auto auto auto auto And not a lot of people need another platform to play those titles they can be played all over the place so at the end of the day where it’s on special place in the market it doesn’t it’s losing its variety and it’s losing its diversity by letting go of quality teams just really bad and it takes away from the overall picture significantlyI believe and I think has the right idea when it comes to acquiring and getting that variety but when he has people like Sarah and Matt , I just don’t think they deliver

This is just my two cents. But the vibe I got was that Microsoft isn't interested in making new games with the studios they've acquired. It feels like they want to take the games that the studios already have, and put it on their omni-platform games service. There is a big following for a lot of the games they've acquired. If they bring those fans into new service, then third party developers will follow. Making them essentially the new steam on every device.

I think gaming changed too much too fast and this is why this is happening. Studios stopped making games with very well developed characters and stories and instead focused too much on graphics, performance and releasing as many games as possible as fast as possible( hence the rise in broken games at launch with almost no replay ability). And we as gamers are partly to blame for that. Wanted more and more so fast. Just my 2 cents.

She is there to be thrown to the wolves, xbox messed up bad. Let's make the decisions we made look better to customers to make it not look as bad. We aren't stupid we see the economic down turn across the world, so while I love games and continue to grow my library almost weekly I do it at a deep discount. There are great games still coming out but they aren't from companies we used to love and respect, now they come from indies. I know the likes of xbox and sony see that indies are taking over and the era of AAA is dying at a rapid pace. They are scrambling to save money because their AAA's aren't panning out. The sad thing is instead of pushing for these indies to succeed they stay in the past and try and milk us for every dollar in our pockets.

The next hardware is probably going to be a gamepass handheld. Like it or not gamepass is the present and future of xbox, and i disagree that gamepass isn't what gamers want. Millions of causal gamers use it and a lot of people dont want to invest the 100s of dollars it takes to buy the hardware and games.
Not every decision a company makes has to cater to us, I get that you dont like how its going but acting like mobile and casual gamers arent a massive part of the industry is gate keeping.
Im not a gamepass or even an xbox user anymore becaue it doesnt make sense for me, but clearly Microsoft sees value in it, if you want to own your games and not worry about them working on next gen hardware then move to PC.

I think she’s talking about the business side of video games being flat, but to your point I don’t think Nintendo was flat. I’m not sure that Play Station was flat. Xbox might’ve been flat, but that was because I think GamePass isn’t profitable and some of the triple A games didn’t do that well. So maybe Xbox was flat more so than the rest of the industry. It’s also hard when “the industry” is represented by 3 companies now that Microsoft has bought up a bunch of studios. Not much of an industry. I would wager she, and many Microsoft executives, don’t play video games.
