Both are iconic and unforgettable!!! In the States there is absolutely nothing worth watching these days so i fill that time with Prisoner and I am now content. Ive already watched Wentworth the entire series 3 times. Bravo ladies
Poor Carol Burns passed away on December 21st, 2015. She died from cancer. I give my deepest condolences to her husband and children, if she had any children. May she rest in peace.
I was fortunate to meet Carol at the 30 year Prisoner anniversary in 2009. She was lovely and very generous with her time to her fans. A lovely person.
I watched prisoner when I was about 9 in 2007 found the show again I’m now 26! I can now fully appreciate the show through older eyes. I don’t like old shows much at all but prisoner is a gem. Talent Australian actors and brilliant storylines.
Im from Scotland it was on really late here so my auntie would video tape it & that vodeo tape got passed around the whole fanily we all loved it felt like a part of my childhood
The original was the best, i seen it here in Baltimore, Md..USA for the first time in 1980 and now have every episode and still watch it, Its very addictive and was sad when Vera left and Bea, the original cast was the best and its nice to see those 4 back again.
The original came on at 4 o’clock here on the east coast of the US. My friends and I kept the same routine everyday so we never missed an episode! That core cast of characters was amazing Of course you always seem to favor those who were in the first couple of seasons. But so many greats came and went throughout. The beautiful theme song was also amazing. I have the song in my rotation and still listen to it.
@yortko1 No, but for years my friends And I thought it was a British show. At that time, we weren't as familiar with Aussie accents. It sounded British to us. Lol.
@@johannadavis7594 🤣. I watched it when I was a boy here in Australia during the 80's. It's very different now as you said, our accent is much more familiar to Americans now. Of course we Australians grow up on American film and television and your accent is just as familiar to us as our own. 🤣
@yortko1 Paul Hogan was responsible for bringing the aussie accent attention in the US. It was before crocodile Dundee. He did a beer commercial here. We didn't know who he was, but everyone was quoting him from the commercial. Lol
My friends & I were big fans of Prisoner. The half hour edited episodes of Prisoner were shown on WGN9 in Chicago USA back in 1979. The show was pulled from the WGN's schedule after only 1 year without any explanation. I was happy to see recently that Prisoner was available to watch on UA-cam & have finally been able to catch up after all these years. I have over 500 more episodes to go.....Great Show!
I don't care if anyone agrees with me or not. Prisoner was the greatest soap ever. I am from Trinidad. I could not wait to see it. Soap operas today are NOTHING like "my' Prisoner. Their acting was far superior. They have the greatest writer. I'm not even interested in seeing any new generation. I've recently started looking back at the series on you tube. I'm so sorry some of them are no longer with us. I absolutely loved Lizzie so much and Doreen with her pony tails and Bea Smith. But my favourite always will be Lizzie.
You know, I didn't even want to think about watching Wentworth because I thought it would impact on my feelings toward the original but I'm so glad I got over it and bought all 4 seasons to binge-watch. I still LOVE the original but also love the new version. I think I've watched Prisoner at least 5 times now and could keep watching it on repeat without getting bored. I was never allowed to watch it when it was current but remember sneaking out of bed to try and watch it from around the corner every week, lol. I've only watched Wentworth once. Still in shock over the season 4 finale and have no idea what direction it's going to take next season without Bea. So, yes, I agree with you about Prisoner being the best soap opera of its day. Wentworth isn't just a cheap rip-off - it really does it justice. Best prison series on TV.
Unfortunately, I don't. I bought the DVD season 1-4 box. Had to see what everyone was going on about and I'm so happy I did. Love all the small changes (although some of my favourite prisoners aren't in it)... I think Wentworth is one of the hardest shows to get online these days.
I have now been able to watch most of the "Wentworth" episodes on youtube and although I am very greatful to those who uploaded them I'm afraid my heart will always remain with the original "Prisoner Cell Block H" series w/Val Lehman and crew. It will be a cult classic forever in my opinion. I own all the dvd's and have watched the entire set at least 3 times and nothing will ever be able to replace it. I will say this about "Wentworth" I really wish they would have a great many of the old actors from the original series do cameo's and to date have seen only one from Anne Charleston. I'm not sure why they haven't decided to bring any of the old actors back from the original series I think it would really make the show more enjoyable to watch. They could even give them a role that may last a period of time just to give us old "PCBH" fans something to enjoy. : )
thecatman4ever Can't beat Prisoner mate. Not only can you not beat the show, you can't beat the cast either and that 80's charm. I can watch Prisoner over and over again and never get bored of it. Definitely the best Aussie show ever made, and there is some great Aussie shows out there but none will ever beat Prisoner. If you like Aussie shows mate I recommend you watch RUSH if you haven't seen it. That is a great show. And there is a few old Prisoner cast in it. There is loads of Wentworth cast in it. You can watch all 70 episodes on here, I'm on episode 56 at the moment. Nicole da Silva who plays Franky in Wentworth stars in it, I like her in RUSH better than Wentworth.
I'm from USA and don't know anything about the prison series. I like wentworth just fine the way it is. Bringing back old characters would be pointless to the new generation of viewers.
Its 2015, im 34, and I just now discovered this shows existence, im on episode 3.. only 689 episodes to go! Anyway, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new show Wentworth, so I had to check out Prisoner. I like it so far! ♡
KattsCradle Bedtime Stories Haha. I first watched it about 3 years ago and I watched an episode every night until I got to the "Freak" and then I stopped watching cos she freaks me out. That show is very very (!!!) addictive. You should definitely keep watching. It is fantastic!
In 2015, I'm 35 and I first saw Prisoner when I was 7 in 1987. It took until I was nearly 21 in 2001 to see the series finish on British TV. Now I've been enjoying Wentworth for the last 2 years. I love both, but the original will always be best. My favourite non Wrestling TV show of all time. I'm a huge Wrestling fan.
I'm currently working through Prisoner Cell Block H, here in Scotland. However, I started watching it in my birth town of Miranda before my Scottish parents decided they missed home and moved back.
I loved watching the original Prisoner in the days, but I still got hooked on this re-vamped version it always brings me back to the original characters when I was watching it.
It’s 2023 and channel 5 in the UK are rerunning both wentworth and prisoner personally this is my ninth time of watching all 692 episodes to say I’m a fan, I’m obsessed love it.
So happy I came across this video!! I didnt know that Wentworth was a remake of Prisoner cell block H ... Started watching Wentworth on Netflix about a month ago. I quit watching it after season 4, as I was quite aghast that the main character Bea Smith, whom I became so attached to was killed off. Iv`e never seen a TV show where the main character bites the dust, until Wentworth ... Danielle Cormack IMHO was like Captain Kirk, Captain Picard, Captain Janeway is to Star Trek .. What I mean by that is being iconic!! Killing off the main character, is like killing off the life and breath of the series. That`s why I chose to use that analogy.
They all came to the UK in 1989 to perform in a big theater the UK in Manchester with the exact same stages as prisoner I met bea Smith doreen and I am not sure who else I was a huge fan I was star struck amazing ro watch

It is grittier, tougher, and more shocking. So true and they had Two Other Versions and of course in the Old School ones, there were no Blacks, or Thailand Ladies who look at Wentworth as a Paradise. I saw the Thailand Prison and it's horrifying especially with those Three Folks from Australia who did time. They got out, if anything it was like a modern day version of Midnight Express.
I'd love to see these girls in a cameo or as relatives of the new characters. collet could play lizzie's mum and val could play bea's mum or jacs' pissed of sister :)
Why does every show (just about) have to have remakes? I don't see the point. Once the show has been done, leave it alone and walk down Memory Lane by watching the one and only programs on DVDs or here on UA-cam.
Doreen's character in Prisoner is not the same as Doreen's character in Wentworth. Neither is Vera Bennett. In Prisoner, Vera's character somewhat reminds me of Joan Ferguson's character in Wentworth. Vera's character in Wentworth is more likeable. I'm only on episode 33 of Prisoner. Just started binge watching a few days ago. I like comparing the shows. Both have their own unique twists. I like how Prisoner isn't as intense as Wentworth but still keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting to see the next episode. I also prefer the lack of profanity in Prisoner. Seems less vulgar. I love prisoner I'm watching episode 655 right now but it's not the same when the original cast members left bea Doreen Lizzie Frankie even though it's a fantastic show
Lisamarie Dean You can go to the Prisoner reunions every February. She was at the 2011 one. it is fairly cheap as well. They come out and chat to you, you have a BQ with you, and sign loads of autographs for you. Every Feb it is in Melbourne in a little bungalow. It is very intimate only about 10 of you go, so you get to talk to them all properly.
The original prisoner went from strength to strength once Joan Ferguson (Maggie Kirkpatrick) was introduced.
She definitely made it worth watching.
i also loved vinegar tits story lines
My favourite era of Prisoner is when Bea and Joan are in it together.
The Freak!
Both are iconic and unforgettable!!! In the States there is absolutely nothing worth watching these days so i fill that time with Prisoner and I am now content. Ive already watched Wentworth the entire series 3 times. Bravo ladies
I'm watching it at the moment and it's a better show than almost anything on TV these days in my opinion.
Prisoner was a fabulous series ...Mother of all shows ...😊
Absolutely loved Prisoner. Bea of course was my favourite character. Her strength, depth and sympathy was played magnificently by Val Lehman.
Yes we loved pcbh in uk especially in the 80s ❤💯

Love and adore Fiona Spence--she's still beautiful, I think!
I wish it were possible to meet her; would be such a dream come true. ♥x
I'm in the US. :(
stuartpatto1976 Where can we find information about the reunions? :)
